(N) FULLY TRANSFERABLE MEDIA CORP REGISTERED ITHACA MANUFACTURED M3A1 “GREASE GUN” MACHINE GUN (FULL

Lot # 1030 (Sale Order: 30 of 460)

Seldom encountered as fully transferable guns this U.S. M3A1 “Grease Gun” is immediately recognizable as different from the earlier M3 model by the lack of a lever to cock the bolt. Also distinguishable from the left side from the M3 model due to the protective sheet metal “box” around the magazine release designed to prevent inadvertent release of the magazine. On the M3A1, the bolt is cocked by the firer opening the cover over the ejection port and pulling the bolt back using a deep recess in the front of the bolt. If the cover is closed, whether the bolt is cocked, or forward, a catch inside the ejector port cover holds the bolt in place for safety. The cover must be open for the gun to fire, which it does from an open bolt. Flash hider present at muzzle. One lustrous finish original 32-round magazine is included with this gun. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original smooth grey finish with some light handling marks and loss of finish turning to a pleasing grey patina. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is near excellent, shiny, and bright. The Grease Gun is a highly sought collectible machine gun from the World War II era. It is slow-firing, controllable, and accurate. A very fun gun to shoot, and magazines are readily available at nominal cost. A great gun for the American military machine gun enthusiast. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. JWK 2020-11-057 Barrel Length: 8" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Media Corp Model: M3A1 Serial Number: B112

(N) EXCEPTIONAL HIGH ORIGINAL CONDITION J. P. SAUER MANUFACTURED GERMAN MP-44 MACHINE GUN (CURIO & R

Lot # 1032 (Sale Order: 32 of 460)

One of the finest condition specimens we have ever seen from this rarely encountered manufacturer, this extremely fine and attractive MP44 is marked “ce” on underside of receiver forward of magazine well indicating J. P. Sauer as the final assembler. Visible numbers are matching including operating rod and bolt. Nazi proof marks on numerous parts with "WaA" proofs as well. Underside of receiver eagle over "280" indicating ERMA manufacture along with "cos" indicating Mertzwerke, which was a sheet metal firm subcontractor. This weapon was manufactured in 1944 and indicated on the left side of receiver. One original 30 round Nazi marked “MP-44” magazine included as well as a reloading die set, 400 boxer primed brass cases, and 18 bags of 100 each 123 grain projectiles. 24 original boxes of steel cased ammunition is also included. The MP44 series of weapons was the first assault rifle design which uses an intermediate cartridge; the 7.92x33mm cartridge was not so powerful as the 8x57mm full power rifle round but significantly more powerful than the 9mm Parabellum pistol round. This rifle was a highly effective improvement over the standard bolt action rifle because not only was it semi-automatic with a large magazine capacity but it also could provide automatic fire fulfilling a soldier's needs in many situations. The fact that the cartridge was smaller in length and in weight meant that the soldiers could carry more ammunition readily available. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original finish. Wood is very attractive, un-sanded and original finish. Mechanics are crisp. Action is very smooth. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt face is also near excellent. This is a select-fire machine gun. The MP44 was an important historical development in the field of military weapons and the condition of this one makes it one of the best we have ever carried to auction. If you have an MP-44 already, this one would almost certainly be an upgrade, both in condition and likely also in terms of manufacturer. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-11-058 Accessories: Cartridges, bullets, dies Barrel Length: 16 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 8mm Kurz FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Germany Model: MP-44 Paperwork: Amnesty form, provenance Serial Number: 7317p44

(N) FABULOUS EARLY PRODUCTION ICONIC WW2 GERMAN MG-42 MACHINE GUN WITH HORIZONTAL STRAIGHT CHARGING

Lot # 1040 (Sale Order: 40 of 460)

The earliest manufactured MG-42 this cataloger has ever evaluated for auction, this Gustloff 1943 manufactured MG-42 machine gun is marked “dfb” with 1943 date in the clear (not coded) on the left side of the receiver. Nazi proof "WaA 4" on receiver for Gustloff as well as other Nazi proof marks on various parts on this gun. Barrel extension is marked "ar" (Mauser), with un-numbered replaced 8 mm barrel. Nazi "dfb" marked bolt is consistent with rest of gun. Accessories include one 7.62X51mm (.308) barrel, feed tray, and top cover conversion set along with some steel non-disintegrating link belts. However, what truly sets this gun apart from so many others is that it retains the original style horizontal charging handle. The first MG-42 guns produced utilized this style handle. It is a historically documented fact that Erwin Rommel observed a demonstration of this “new” machine gun model, and recognized the advantages of its fast-firing qualities over the MG-34. Rommel used his influence to get early production MG-42 guns for his Afrika Corps, and these guns would have had this style charging handle. Relatively soon after adoption, production designers changed the handle to the familiar vertical style. The new style was easier to apply muscular force to and also were less likely to be damaged due to the changed profile. Waffenmeisters changed out the old handles for the new as they could and as a result very few of these original model charging handles are found today. One can discern Nazi eagle cartouche on wooden butt which is without reinforcement wire wrapping. Adding reinforcement wire wrapping was another directive published to waffenmeister in the field as the butts tended to crack under use. Another seldom-seen early feature are the grip panels on this gun, which are of lightweight white metal. Note also the front sight has a provision for adjustable windage and elevation. Bipod is post-war without adjustment knob. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original finish thinning to gray patina with scattered scratches, and little dings. Grip frame mostly grey patina. Reinforcement wire not present on butt with some cracks which do not affect serviceability. Mechanics of are fine. Bore and bolt are near excellent as is exterior of .308 barrel which has NATO caliber designation marking. This is a full-auto only machine gun. Any who are considering bidding on this gun know what a great machine gun would be to take to the range, but this cataloger would recommend the gun is better relegated to being a showpiece and an example of the early production specimen that it is. It may be a very long time, if ever, before a specimen such as this one surfaces again on the collector market. An enduring icon in its original form! For the forward-thinking advanced collector/investor. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
