(N) DESIRABLE FLUTED BARREL BERETTA MODEL 38/42 MACHINE GUN WITH NAZI MARKED STOCK (CURIO & RELIC).

Lot # 1056 (Sale Order: 56 of 460)

Very attractive Beretta 38/42 with lightly struck WaA 162 (Beretta under German supervision) Eagle proof just forward of rear sling attachment point. Visible numbers are matching including barrel, receiver and stock. One original 40 round magazine, and an Eastern European web and leather sling are included. Also included is a copy of the original registration paperwork, and a letter indicating this weapon was acquired by an American Soldier stationed in Belgium during World War II. Although registered as SN 8944, there is a prefix "CK" above this serial number. This can be requested correction through the BATF upon paper transfer application. Magazine has a lightly hand-etched non-matching serial number on left side. Gun is marked on top of receiver “M.P. “BERETTA” Mod. 38/42-Cal.9". This specimen has a fluted barrel with compensator cuts forward of the front sight to counteract muzzle climb. Based upon other specimens this cataloger has observed this gun was completed at the factory not long before the transition to the “smooth” barrel models. A number of these guns were taken into service by German troops late in the war, and although MP-40 production had ceased in favor of MP-44/STG-44 production, had there been further need of 9mm machine pistols, the Beretta 38/42 was what the German forces would have procured. Selective fire gun with two triggers, one for full-auto, and the other for semi-auto fire. These Beretta guns are accurate, controllable, durable, and reliable, and the model 38/42 was regarded with particular favor by the troops that employed them. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine combination of original and refinished parts. Receiver tube, barrel, magazine housing safety, and trigger guard are original finish with little scattered areas of light oxidization and some gray patina at contact points of safety and charging handle cover. Buffer button and butt plate have a dull gray refinish. Matching numbered stock is outstanding, unsanded, with some very slight handling marks and a couple tiny chips where the wood meets and is proud of the buttplate. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolt is extremely fine. A very attractive wonderful World War II sub-machine gun, righteously considered one of the best in World War II service and exceptionally fun to shoot at the range. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) FANTASTIC RARE SAVAGE MANUFACTURED AUTO ORDNANCE COMMERCIAL 1928 THOMPSON MACHINE GUN (CURIO & R

Lot # 1057 (Sale Order: 57 of 460)

Superb condition Savage manufactured 1928 Thompson with New York address on right side of receiver. "S" prefix serial number with "S" proof mark on barrel on left side next to receiver. "Cutts" marked compensator without bullet logo and adjustable Lyman rear sight with vertical foregrip. Matching numbers between upper and lower assemblies. Hand-stamped mark between New York address and patent numbers on right side of receiver "MPD / 515" which indicates Memphis Police Department former ownership. These commercial finished Savage manufactured guns were taken into service by police departments. One each lustrous blue finish Bridgeport 20 round and 30 round magazines are included, as well as a plastic hard case. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish, just outstanding with over 96% original Du-Lite blue finish, as is correct, with lustrous finish on compensator, magazine latch, selector, safety, and rear sight leaf, and less lustrous blue trigger frame and receiver. Some loss of finish at high edges and where cocking knob rides in actuator slot. Cocking knob has finish in recessed areas with bolt appropriately devoid of finish. Wood is exceedingly nice with only some slight handling marks and retains a beautiful brown color. Bore is near excellent, shiny and bright. Magazine finish is near excellent. This is a select fire machine gun. Pretty much impossible to upgrade the condition of this rare Savage Thompson, of which there were only 150 specimens of this variant ever manufactured. Finding one in this condition would make a fantastic addition to any advanced gun collection and shooting it upon occasion would not appreciably diminish its collector value. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2019-11-042 Accessories: Hard case, Two magazines Barrel Length: 11 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: .45 ACP FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Auto Ordnance Model: 1928 Thompson Serial Number: S17738

CORRECTION: Good new! The buttstock on this gun exhibits the anchor logo which was only present on the 15,000 guns produced by Colt, and when Savage made the first 1928s they used whatever parts were left over from the original production. This stock is a rare and valuable item in itself. FFL Status: NFA.

(N) VERY ATTRACTIVE GERMAN WORLD WAR I BERGMANN MP-18/I MACHINE GUN (FULLY TRANSFERABLE).

Lot # 1063 (Sale Order: 63 of 460)

The MP-18/I "Maschinenpistole 18/I", designed by Hugo Schmeisser and manufactured by Theodor Bergmann, was the first sub-machine gun to be fielded by an army and used in combat. While some may attest that the Italian Villar-Perosa was technically the first sub-machine gun to be used in battle, the Villar-Perosa was designed to be used as a light machine gun mounted on aircraft, and was only later adapted to be utilized by infantry in the trenches of World War I, unlike the MP-18/I, which was designed for infantry use from its conception. Issued to Sturmstruppen "Assault Troopers", who were trained in advanced infiltration tactics, the MP-18/I proved to be an efficient and effective weapon, and served as the basis for multiple later sub-machine gun designs. This fine specimen, is marked "M.P.18,I/ 2381" over the chamber, with "THEODORBERGMANNABT.WAFFENBAUSUHL" on the left hand side of the receiver. German Imperial Reichsadler is present on the bolt, just ahead of the charging handle. Reactivation marking is present on the bottom of the receiver. 1 piece walnut stock with finger grooves on either side with perforated barrel shroud. Barleycorn sights, with graduations from 100-200 meters. Matching numbers include the receiver, front & rear sights, muzzle cap, receiver end cap, receiver latch, receiver latch bracket, return spring guide, bolt, extractor, charging handle, trigger guard, trigger bar assembly, main forend hinge, and main hinge screw. Buttplate matches, but appears to have been renumbered at one point in time. Included with this gun, is an original period leather sling, one original snail drum magazine with MP-18 adapter, one reproduction snail drum magazine, as well as one original magazine loader and one reproduction loader. CONDITION: Metal components retains fine amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to a pleasing patina all around. Arsenal markings are sharp. Exceptional mirror bore that exhibits strong rifling throughout. Stock appears to be an old refinish, showing some minor scattered handling marks, as well as some light scattered flaking to the varnish, which is most prevalent at the toe. There is a small crack to the rear of the receiver end cap. Leather sling shows age cracking all around, as well as a tear. This is an extremely attractive example of an MP-18/I submachine gun, that served Germany's elite troops during the Great War. PROVENANCE: Stern Collection. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4. MLW Accessories: Reproduction snail drum magazine, two magazine loaders Barrel Length: 10" Caliber/Bore: 9mm Para FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Bergmann Model: MP-18/I Serial Number: 2381

CORRECTION: Additional accessories include an additional MP-18/I Luger snail drum adapter sleeve and a manual "Instruction for the Long Pistol 08 with Insertable Drum Magazine".

(N) MARLIN ROCKWELL MODEL 1917 “DIGGER” U.S. NAVY MACHINE GUN WITH SIDE COCKING CHARGING HANDLE (CUR

Lot # 1067 (Sale Order: 67 of 460)

High condition Marlin Rockwell’s further development and improvement of the earlier "digger" machine gun to make it more versatile and appropriate to specialized applications for tanks and aircraft. For this final (and best received) model, the signature reciprocating arm under the barrel gas block was redesigned to be an in-line gas piston system. I called this gun a “digger” in the title, but this is an intentional misnomer. Soldiers under field conditions immediately recognized this as an improvement which allowed the gun to be employed lower to the ground providing less of a target silhouette. Cooling fins on the barrel were also a welcome feature which enabled longer periods of sustained fire before “cooldown” breaks. This gun is marked on top of receiver as well as on non-matching barrel “MARLIN ARMS CORPORATION NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT CAL-30 U.S.A.”. Marked on upper trigger bar, “USN 7947”. Marlin Rockwell took over the manufacturing rights to the Colt Model 1914 digger from Colt in 1916, and began producing this improved design in 1917. The sliding door on the right side gives easier access to the action and is an immediate telltale sign of a Marlin digger. CONDITION: Overall finish and appearance is extremely fine deep lustrous blue finish thinning to gray patina at the high edges with a bit of pitting at the front lower right edge of the receiver plate and a bit of brown pitting on the barrel. Mechanics are crisp and positive. Bore is extremely fine, shiny and bright with strong rifling. Bolt face is extremely fine. Wood hand grip is extremely fine with light handling marks. This is a scarce model of a very popular machine gun design and will no doubt find a deserving place in the collection of a World War I enthusiast who wants to shoot their guns as well as display them. An extremely attractive and very “modern looking” for its day machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. JWK 2020-11-006 Barrel Length: 28" Caliber/Bore: .30-06 Springfield FFL Status: NFA Manufacturer: Marlin Model: 1917 Paperwork: Marlin Model 1917 Handbook Serial Number: 7947

CORRECTION: Please note that this gun is a former deactivated gun which has been professionally reactivated. Barrel does not match receiver. Many live and very collectible machine guns were at one time deactivated. The gun remains Curio & Relic eligible and is a rare and very attractive piece as a fully transferable live gun nonetheless.

(N) VERY SCARCE AND SOUGHT AFTER STEYR MP-34 MACHINE GUN IN .45 ACP (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE).

Lot # 1068 (Sale Order: 68 of 460)

This is a Steyr manufactured MP-34 in .45 ACP which was originally sold as part of a small contract to Guatemala. It is import marked on the left side of the receiver, “INTER AMERICAN SACTO CA”. The stock serial number, 1243, and bolt serial number, 1274, do not match the receiver serial number 1259. This .45 caliber version of the MP34 is immediately recognizable as different from the far more common smaller caliber versions because the large magazine housing designed to accommodate the .45 magazines does not incorporate the provision for stripper clip loading. One original 20 round magazine is included with this lot. This particular models only safety is a slot milled into the top cover to hold the bolt to the rear in the same manner which would be later be incorporated into the MP-38 and MP-40 machine guns (among others). The Austrian Steyr firm manufactured MP-30 and later MP-34 machine guns for domestic police and military, and also for export to other nations including; Portugal, Greece, Japan, South America, and others, including a few to the United States. They were produced in a number of calibers according to the preference of the purchaser, including 7.65 Luger, 7.63 Mauser, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm Steyr, 9mm Mauser, and 45 ACP. Of these, the .45 version is the most sought by collectors within the United States. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most seldom encountered here. The MP-34 is an exceptionally well-made machined steel machine gun. This particular gun was imported from Guatemala as part of a group consisting of 7 guns and 6 magazines (all they had). It was imported in 1979 by Roger Cox as part of a collaborative effort between the Law Enforcement Ordnance Company of Athens, GA and InterAmerican Import/Export Co of Sacramento, CA. The consignor of this gun personally packed it and the others for shipment in Guatemala, and later purchased this gun for a nominal sum and has had it until now. The consignor also related to this cataloger that a New York City police precinct had ordered several of these guns in .45 in the 1930’s new from the factory, together with six magazines per gun with three cell magazine pouches. Unfortunately for the collector market, these were all taken out and dumped into the ocean years ago when they were deemed obsolete and no longer needed. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is good original finish with scattered areas of pitting ranging from minor to moderate, with the worst being at the top cover latch and on top cover forward of the rear sight. The finish is thinning to a gray patina at the high edges in particular with more of a brown patina on barrel shroud and buttplate. Bolt handle exhibits a gray brown patina. Stock exhibits moderate dings and handling marks with a small 3/8” long wedge shaped chip missing on right side just above trigger guard, but still remains very solid and serviceable. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is good, with quite a bit of shine, starting to show pitting. Long bolt has never been welded and is extremely fine. This is a select-fire machine gun with “E and “D” selector. Any shortcomings of condition this gun has are overcome by the highly desirable caliber. These guns are so few in the United States that this gun is worthy of consideration for a top-quality extensive restoration. It is one of the last of the high-quality milled steel machine guns being produced prior to World War II and a sought after collectible machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO ACTIVE FFL/SOT DEALERS ON AN ATF FORM 3 BUT MAY BE RETAINED BY SOLE PROPRIETOR FFL/SOT HOLDERS WHEN THEY RELINQUISH THEIR LICENSES UPON BATF APPROVAL. This is an Austrian Steyr MP-30 machine gun marked with “W” Austrian Eagle and “37” proof on left side of receiver below hinge of top cover. Top rear of butt plate on non-matching stock has unit markings “AJR.10 64”. This indicates, Alpen Jaeger Regiment Nr. 10, 64th weapon. This was part of 5th division Steiermark, Steirisches Alpenjager regiment, under Field Marshall Conrad V. Hotzendorf. These weapons were manufactured for both police and military and could be ordered in a variety of calibers, including 7.65 Luger, 7.63 Mauser, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm Steyr, 9mm Mauser, and .45 ACP (for export). This is an exceptionally well-made machined steel machine gun. The MP-30 went through and evolution and eventually became the MP-34 o (for Osterreich) after the union between Germany and Austria in 1938. At this point the guns (as well as the personnel) in Austrian military service were absorbed into the German military. Subsequent production standardized to the 9mm Parabellum cartridge by late 1940, but there were enough existing guns and ammunition in 9 MM Steyr and 9 MM Mauser for them to remain in service with police, or to be fielded with security forces at static bases such as airfields where consumption of large quantities of ammunition was not anticipated. This gun has no caliber designation under the sight leaf, but the consignor has shot it in 9mm Steyr (9x21mm), and ammunition is included with this lot. This gun incorporates a loading guide milled into the magazine housing which allows the magazine to be snapped into place on the bottom of the housing retained by a latch, and the charged through the top of the housing using stripper clips. The Austrians were very keen on the use of stripper clips to load their weapons dating back to their Steyr-Hahn pistols. Visible numbers non-matching on this gun between receiver, bolt, and stock. Stock has the distinctive sweep and profile particular to the MP-30. Safety forward of the trigger guard also indicative of the MP-30. 1 original 32 round 9mm Mauser magazine included. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is fine original finish with scattered areas of light pitting, with much more significant loss of finish with and brown and gray patina to the buttplate. Bolt handle exhibits a gray brown patina. Stock exhibits moderate dings and handling marks but still remains very solid and serviceable. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is good, turning dark in the grooves. Long bolt has never been welded and is extremely fine. This is a select fire machine gun with “E and “D” selector. A very nice example of this model which presents very well. One of the last of the high quality milled steel machine guns being produced prior to World War II and a sought after collectible machine gun. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) RARE EARLY GERMAN CONTRACT BERGMANN MP-34 (PREDECESSOR TO 35/I) MACHINE GUN (CURIO AND RELIC).

Lot # 1071 (Sale Order: 71 of 460)

This early Bergmann MP34 (predecessor to the 35/I) machine gun was commercially manufactured for German use prior to World War II. Likely used in either police, and/or later in military/SS service. This specimen is devoid of makers markings of any kind on the metal with only the serial numbers as noted below in evidence. Receiver is number 5431 on right side. This early specimen has an all walnut stock numbered "3549/a" just to the rear of the rear sling swivel with “sch” on the pistol grip. The bolt charging handle is numbered "3451/e" and has discernible eagle proof. The bolt body and barrel match in numbered "4698/a". It was not uncommon for parts to become mixed between combat used weapons. Functionality was key. Stocks of this particular model had a tendency to crack at the wrist and hence are often found mismatched in number. The gun incorporates some very interesting features for a pistol caliber machine gun, such as 2 trigger select fire system where the firer can squeeze off solitary rounds one after another by squeezing the forward trigger to the rear and then releasing it after each shot. If the firer desires fully automatic fire they need only to squeeze the forward trigger all the way to the rear which actuates a lever (2nd trigger) at the rear of the trigger guard which provides automatic fire. The other highly interesting feature of this model is a quick release barrel feature. Depressing a detent button 3 - 1/4” to the rear of the front of the forend will actuate a lever allowing the muzzle and barrel assembly to rotate 90 degrees and be easily withdrawn from the shroud for cleaning. Other features include a safety lever at the left side of the receiver below and slightly to the rear of the adjustable rear sight, and a bolt removal catch which allows the bolt to be fully withdrawn for cleaning. The bolt itself is a relatively heavy piece which cocks the weapon in a way reminiscent of a bolt action rifle for the first shot. 1 original 32 round magazine is included. The Germans themselves adapted/repurposed other 9mm magazines to fit this model after 1942, and this cataloger has a source should they be desired. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine original finish with some scattered areas of brown patina exclusive of the barrel which has near excellent original finish on the body with the muzzle thinning to a gray brown patina. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is shiny and bright with soft-edged lands and frosting 3/4" towards the muzzle. Bolt appropriately in the white and extremely fine. Wood has typical light handling marks and presents very well. This is a select-fire machine gun. The MP-34 became the MP 35/I with only slight modifications and both models were used in second line service, with notable documented use by SS units including rail police and concentration camp guards. This cataloger is aware of one specimen identical in markings and features which was taken from a concentration camp and brought home to the United States. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE. (N) FINE GERMAN WW2 MG-34 MACHINE GUN (PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE).

Lot # 1072 (Sale Order: 72 of 460)

Very attractive and mostly matching German World War II MG34. Although NFA registry indicates “GROSSFUSS” as the manufacturer, this guns receiver, shroud, and handgrip assembly cup are all matching and were manufactured by Waffenwerke Brunn (dot) in 1943. WaA proofs confirm this, and correction to registry may be requested incidental to paper Form 3 transfer should the buyer desire this. Top cover also matches serial number and was indeed manufactured by Grossfuss (bpr). Buttstock cup and bakelite buttstock are serial 463i. Buffer cup is serial 6973f. Bipod is unnumbered, dfb 1943. Bolt is unnumbered. Barrel non-matching. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good, about 40% mostly thinning to a pleasing even gray patina with more finish remaining forward of the AA sight post, turning a brown patina in places. Actually presents a very nice “combat used” appearance. Firing residue at muzzle and within bore indicate that this has been a good running gun, and this cataloger knew the consignor and witnessed this gun firing at the range. Generally, if the shrouds match the receivers, and the wear patterns indicate it, the MG-34s run well. Mechanics are fine. Bore is dark with firing residue. This is a select-fire machine gun. A great example of the iconic class machined steel German belt fed machine gun from WW 2 ready to take to the range. (D) ORIGINAL WORLD WAR II RUSSIAN MODEL 1943 82MM MORTAR (DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE).

Lot # 1074 (Sale Order: 74 of 460)

Original World War 2 vintage Russian 82mm mortar. Accessories include round baseplate with multiple numbers, and Soviet Russian bipod. The Russian 82mm mortars were close copies of the U.S. 81mm mortar; perhaps “copy” is not quite fair, as there was very little difference between the basic 81mm mortar designs of several countries. All were based on the earlier French Brandt Model 27/31 mortar design. What is interesting and clever is that by standardizing their heavy Battalion level mortar in 82mm, the Russians could utilize the captured munitions of other countries which used 81 mm mortars, but the other countries with 81 mm mortars could not utilize captured Russian ammunition. Tension spring chain between the bipod legs is an interesting “shock absorption” feature of this mortar. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is very good olive drab on tube with light pitting under the paint. Bipod is very good with green paint chipping away with to reveal a gray patina. Baseplate also very good with brown patina. Mechanics of bipod are fine. Bore is extremely fine with some light pitting. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS A DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE AND IS ALSO CURIO AND RELIC ELIGIBLE.
