(A) ID'ED US SHARPS MODEL 1863 BREECHLOADING CONVERSION CARBINE.

Lot # 2063 (Sale Order: 63 of 900)

Flayderman's has listed these carbine conversions as the Model 1859, 1863 and 1865 along with the rare 1869, but never listed any as a Model 1868 so we refer to these by their original Civil War era models. This is an 1863 dated carbine that was converted with a lined three groove barrel in .50-70 Government. Most of these carbines were issued and used during the Civil War, sent back to arsenal after the war, updated to take a self contained cartridge, then refinished and reissued to posts on the Western Frontier. Stamped on comb "Troop L First Cavalry", probable 1st Iowa where they saw service in the West under George Custer, and were involved with numerous Indian battles soon after the Civil War. This is a standard conversion complete with saddle ring and bar and Lawrence rear sight. Deeply stamped Sharps legends on barrel. Sharps patent dates on sides of frame. The "DFC" David Clark ribbon is visible on left side but light. Comes with file full of information on the troop and various battle histories. CONDITION: Excellent original condition. The barrel retains at least 80% blue that is drifting and blending with soft patina. Colors have darkened. Walnut stocks are excellent but there is a dent on left side running North to South. Bore is sharp and bright. A very historic marked Sharps carbine that saw more years of service than most arms of the era. Barrel Length: 22" Caliber/Bore: .50-70 Government FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Sharps Model: 1863 conversion Paperwork: Information, Article Copies, Document Copies, Etc. Serial Number: 72351

The "B / 31" stamped on this buttplate and a gun in the survey of April 1878 on a carbine number 41822 has the "B" stamp on both guns using the same die. Company B 7th cavalry was stationed at Fort Keogh until May 1881. Very early historical carbine that comes with a folder full of data. Barrel Length: 22" Caliber/Bore: .45-70 Government FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: Springfield Model: 1873 Paperwork: Charts Serial Number: 41826
