Full factory nickel plated third generation Colt SAA. Single line barrel address on top of the barrel, "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO, HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". Caliber designation on the left side of the barrel, "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44 SPECIAL". Two line patent dates on the left side of the frame, "PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 1, 75". Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Plain smooth two piece wood grips. Comes in a leather holster that is maker marked, "EL PASO SADDLERY CO. / MAKERS / EL PASO, TEX.". CONDITION: This gun retains virtually all of the factory applied nickel finish. Bright and shiny bore with sharp lands and grooves. Grips are mint with just a few handling marks. Leather holster is in great shape with tight stitching. These guns were manufactured by Pieper under a patent from Bergmann, who was focusing on the machine gun market, and licensed Pieper to make them. Only produced until 1914, when World War I caused production to cease until the Danes restarted production in the 20s. Classic configuration with correct legends for Pieper, the Brevete mark, Belgian proofs, and crown proofs, one on left side near cocking knob, other behind magazine well over a P. Earlier short grips with checkered circle at top and panel in center. Magazine correctly numbered to gun. Housed in an appropriate holster devoid of maker marks. CONDITION: Very good, retaining the majority of the original factory blue, approximately 70%, with scattered handling marks and thinning to sharp edges. Some fine oxidation mostly to barrel and right side of frame. Grips very good with some handling marks and thinning, with evidence of a revarnish at one point. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with well defined rifling and even soft frosting throughout. Holster very good with some rubs and crazing throughout, but supple and serviceable. The majority of these Custom Shop Engraving samples were finished in nickel; this is a two-tone high polish blue example. The right side of the slide is marked ”GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The left side of the slide is marked “COLT MK IV / -SERIES 80-” with the rampant Colt logo. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. The barrel is marked "-COLT 45 AUTO-". The slide and frame have Grade B bank note scroll engraving with the fancy Colt Pony 150th anniversary logo engraved on the left of the slide. The front strap is engraved “Colt Engraving Sampler”. The left ivory grip panel is scrimshawed “R. Henshaw 1831 / L. Nimschke 1850-1900 / C. Helfricht 1871-1921 / Contemporary”. Circa 1913 per Clawson. This is an interesting example of an early 1913 gun that was clearly rebuilt for continuing use, as the 1911s were specifically designed to have interchangeable parts, allowing for easy repairs. This example has a Remington Rand slide with serrated slope front sight, square notch flat top rear sight with punch dot ahead of dovetail, and typical Remington Rand address on left side of slide. Polished barrel with an encircled "MB" on left lug. Small parts comprise a spurred checkered hammer, thick tab safety with milled relief cut, checkered slide release with milled relief cut, short 1911 grip safety, long milled trigger, checkered magazine release, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop, and Keyes fibre grips. Frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on left side of dust cover, intertwined WGP proof for Penfield, with serial number on right side. Two tone magazine. CONDITION: Slide retains the vast majority of the parkerized finish with some thinning to sharp edges and scattered spotting, primarily to right side of slide. Frame with approximately half of the reapplied blue finis, with losses to sharp edges and high traffic areas, with handling marks and some impressions from improper assembly/disassembly around both sides of the slide release. Legends are somewhat softened but still legible. Grips very good. Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and frosting throughout. This is a stellar example of a standard Model 1908 with blue finish, checkered walnut grips with Colt silver medallions, and a tempered two tone magazine stamped "CAL 380 COLT" on base. It comes in its original maroon box with matching number written in pencil on bottom, along with the original instructions and proper end label. Both of the inner Colt labels are also intact. Pistol bears the proper Colt legends on both sides of slide with Pony as well as the VP proof on trigger bow. CONDITION. Excellent. There is a small ding on left side of slide and one spot at upper right grip. The straps show a couple minor handling marks. That noted, the gun retains nearly all the blue finish, still present on crisp slide edges and at the muzzle. Grips are near mint as is the magazine. The bore is bright. The box is intact retaining all of its aprons, some chipping on label and some paper loss on hinge side. The magazine bottom is an aftermarket that has been numbered to the gun. These guns did not have a numbered magazine. Crown/M proofs on left receiver. “GESICHERT” safety...more marking has been altered to up position. Numbered parts on gun are matching, including checkered walnut grips. Grip safety “W.K./779” (Kiel Dock Yard weapon #779) unit marked on backstrap. Magazine has contemporary wood bottom with concentric rings and numbers that have been added that match the gun. Comes with a Navy stock that is unit marked W.W.1266. PROVENANCE: The Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Collection, Germany. CONDITION: Fine, vintage refinish retaining 95% blue and straw with some minor scattered pits under finish. Grips are lightly worn with visible wood grain. Bore is sharp with very light frosting. Magazine has minor wear. Mechanics are fine. This Navy model is dated 1917 on left side of frame. The left side of frame and barrel show several German Imperial proof stamps. All visible matching numbers on metal. Has script DWM on toggle. 100 meter marked rear sight. Unnumbered checkered walnut grips. Standard blue finish with straw parts. Wood base magazine is number 1359. Cut for shoulder stock. Comes with leather commercial type period holster. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel blue has thinned on left side with muzzle wear. Straw colors are visible but faded. All legends are sharp. Left side plate has some salt and pepper texture. Straps retain majority of blue with scattered age freckles. Frame exhibits overall high edge holster wear. Grips are sharp with some flattened area on right panel. Bore is strong but frosted.
