Lot # 2328 (Sale Order: 326 of 661)

Standard configuration P.08 manufactured by Simson & Co. Suhl during the interwar Weimar era. Chamber area is blank, while the right side bears Simson "(Eagle) / 6" and "(Eagle) / 53" waffenamts, followed by a Weimar reichsadler. Additional Simson "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamts are present on various other external and internal components. Toggle is stamped "SIMSON & CO/ SUHL". Front grip strap bears a unit mark which is partially defaced and appears to read "Za.K.36". Magazine bottom bears 2 "(Eagle) / 6" waffenamts as well as an unknown hand-scribed symbol. Major metal components are rust blued, while some smaller components are strawed or nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever and bar, barrel, receiver, trigger bar, breechblock, firing pin, forward and rear toggle links, receiver axle, grips, as well as the aluminum magazine bottom. Receiver axle appears to be force matched and has had its rim removed. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their arsenal applied rust blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall showing through to pleasant gray and brown patinas, with some areas of light pitting and mild surface oxidation overall. Strawed components vary in condition, retaining fair to good amounts of their finish and exhibit mild surface oxidation and age related discoloration. Mirror bore, exhibiting some small spots of very light surface oxidation and retaining good rifling throughout. Grips are wood, exhibiting some smoothing and some scattered nicks to the diamonds, but are otherwise fine. Left grip panel bears a small loss just to the rear of the safety lever. (C) TOKYO GAS AND ELECTRIC PAPA NAMBU SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER.

Lot # 2329 (Sale Order: 327 of 661)

Essentially a second generation Grandpa, the so-called Papa Nambus were the result of a revision in 1904 by Kijiro Nambu. This example is one of the more interesting privately produced examples by Tokyo Gas Electric company, who appear to have taken the reins from Tokyo Artillery Arsenal on production of the Papa, as Naval adoption of the Papa meant that Tokyo arsenal no longer had the production capacity to keep up. After World War I, the Papa Nambu (and the Baby) was shelved in favor of the Type 14, and and the parts left over from Tokyo Arsenal were provided to Tokyo Gas Electric, who fulfilled the final contracts and finally ceased private production in 1928. This example is in the classic configuration with barleycorn front sight, 500 meter adjustable rear sight, TGE logo ahead of ejection port, and with normal kanji on frame and an anchor on the right, behind the serial number and Nambu designation. Two piece wooden grips, left scale with matching serial number. Frame resists disassembly, with the trigger guard refusing to move, but this is a mixed numbers gun, as the cocking knob is numbered to a different gun (343), as are the magazines (4742 & 733). Housed in a rubberized canvas holster with spare magazine, and cleaning tool, with kanji on rear that reads "Second Lieutenant Koga" and an attached tag that the was released by U.S. intelligence as a war trophy, listing "One Pistol" and what to be appears to be an Ensign's name, signed C.H. Debbar? CONDITION: Good, retaining the majority, approximately 60-70%, of the original bluing with distension about the proofs from application of stamp. Scattered oxidation throughout with concentrated on his edges with some other smaller areas. Grips are very good with some handling marks and abraded abraded heads, left scale with a chip on bottom. Straw essentially faded out, with traces visible in protected areas. Holster very good with some scuffs and handling marks. Mechanically fine, bore with heavily softened rifling and frosting throughout. Accessories: Holster Barrel Length: 4 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 7mm Nambu FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: TG&E Model: Nambu Type A Serial Number: 1690

(C) TOKYO GAS & ELECTRIC IMPERIAL NAVY CONTRACT TYPE 14 PAPA NAMBU PISTOL.

Lot # 2330 (Sale Order: 328 of 661)

The Papa Nambus were essentially second generaton Grandpas, revised in 1904. This is an interesting privately produced example by Tokyo Gas and Electric. After World War I, the Papa was shelved in favor of the Type 14, and the parts were transferred from Tokyo Arsenal to TG&E, who fulfilled the remaining contracts until 1928. Classic configuration, similar to the Type 14 but with distinct grip safety, with TG&E crest on top, left side of frame with kanji for "Army Type", right with "Type Nambu". Aluminum bottom magazine with checkered bosses. Pistol resists disassembly to verify internals, but observable numbers on exterior match. In a pigskin holster and accompanied by a handwritten translation of the kanji and instructions for disassembly. CONDITION: Good, with the majority of the original bluing remaining, with distension about some legends from application of stamp. Some mild oxidation to right side of slide, adjacent ejection port, and to straps, with some other scattered areas. Grip scales are very good with a few abraded heads on each side and a repaired chip on top of right scale. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with some light frosting and strong riflings. Magazone baseplate with some heavier handling marks. Leather is very good, supple, darkened from age and oil, with some darkness and verdigris to brass components. A good example of a scarce gun by a scarce maker. Accessories: Leather holster Barrel Length: 4 - 3/4" Caliber/Bore: 8x22mm Nambu Manufacturer: Tokyo Gas & Electric Model: Type 14 Paperwork: owner instructions and history Serial Number: 680

CORRECTION: The anchor stamp on the slide is a Type B Naval Anchor, which suggests a mixed numbers gun.

Lot # 2343 (Sale Order: 341 of 661)

Originally built circa 1944, this prototype carbine was converted to .40 S&W. In the early 1990s the popularity of the new .40 S&W cartridge and desire for pistol caliber carbines led several companies to develop prototypes, including Smith & Wesson. According to a notarized letter on Smith & Wesson letterhead from Bert DuVernay, former Director of the Smith & Wesson Academy, this carbine was received by the Academy from Product Engineering along with various other guns in 1998. With the closure of the Academy in 2005, DuVernay purchased the carbine and sold it to Larry Ruth in 2007. The carbine is fitted with a stainless-steel barrel, in the white, with 6 groove right hand twist rifling, commercial front sight, and "I.R. CO." adjustable rear. Rebuilt internals with a flat Winchester bolt modified to .40 caliber, and flip safety. Commercial polymer pistol grip Choate stock and ventilated blued steel hand guard. No .40 modified magazine was present when Du Verney received the carbine, although a standard unmodified magazine is included. The carbine is pictured on page 1541 of Ruth's "WAR BABY III". CONDITION: Very good as converted. Barrel remains bright with some minor spots of discoloration. The majority of military finish is retained on other metal components. Stock is very fine. (C) DUTCH ISSUE SAGINAW M1 SEMI-AUTOMATIC CARBINE.

Lot # 2348 (Sale Order: 346 of 661)

After WWII approximately 70,000 M1 Carbines were provided to the Netherlands; around half of Dutch troops in the Korean War were armed with these weapons. After adopting the FAL in 1961, many of these carbines were rebuilt and disposed of. This example bears the standard intertwined "Al" Artillerie-lnrichtingen marking over the rebuild date "9-61" on the barrel as well as an Arlington Ordnance import marking. The Inland barrel is dated "11-43". The receiver was made at Grand Rapids but has a serial number associated with the Saginaw Plant. The Grand Rapids facility stopped carbine production on Jan 1, 1944 but continued to make receivers and trigger housings which were sent to the Saginaw Plant for assembly. During the Dutch rebuild process these carbines had all mixed parts, this example was largely restored to World War II configuration by Larry Ruth, including milled front sight, flip rear, flat bolt, and push button safety. Sought after parts include "S’G’" bolt, "SW-S’G’" sear, "E-S’G’" mag catch, "E-S’G’" safety, "S’G’" slide, and "RSG" hand guard. Replacement low wood stock with 2-rivet hand guard retained by a type 1 flat band. Complete with green woven sling. CONDITION: Very good. Metal components display the majority of their arsenal finishes with moderate wear. Wood is fine as cleaned. Very good bore. ME of 3. Fine mechanics. (C) SAGINAW M1 SEMI-AUTOMATIC CARBINE WITH ROLL STAMP ERROR.

Lot # 2349 (Sale Order: 347 of 661)

Manufactured by Saginaw, this carbine is serial numbered 8,865,930, much higher than Saginaw's highest 6,071,188 and the overall WWII production number of 8,069,660 indicating a stamping error at Saginaw. Carbine is fitted with an even more interesting Winchester barrel with a swaged gas cylinder, as Winchester made barrels with integral gas cylinders. Pages 319-320 of Larry Ruth's "War Baby" discus Winchester buying parts from manufacturers whose contracts were cancelled in April 1944. It is believed this may have been an unfinished barrel from one of these contracts that Winchester completed. Small parts were largely corrected to WWII configuration by Larry Ruth after receiving it directly from the importer. Unmarked low-wood walnut stock with 4 rivet hand-guard retained by a bayonet lug band. Complete with 2 custom modified 10mm magazines. The aforementioned letter discussing these guns is also reproduced in Ruth's "War Baby II" on page 765. CONDITION: Very good as converted. Arsenal metal finishes show only light to moderate wear. Stocks are very fine with handling marks. Very good, crisp bore. Fine mechanics. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection Accessories: Extra Mag Barrel Length: 18" Caliber/Bore: 10mm Auto FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Standard Products Model: M1 Carbine Paperwork: Documentation, COA Serial Number: 2103550
