(C) UNUSUAL SLIDE ACTION CONVERSION OF AN INLAND M1 CARBINE.

Lot # 2357 (Sale Order: 355 of 661)

Manufactured on a 1st production block circa Fall 1943 Inland receiver. Stocked in what appears to be a modified Fajen Monte Carlo stock with serrated plastic butt plate. Complete with a shortened magazine. CONDITION: Near excellent as converted. Virtually all of the blued finish is retained throughout. Stock shows some scattered marks. Optic has some clouding. Very good, crisp bore. ME reads under 1. Fine mechanics. A very interesting piece. VERY RARE PROTOTYPE ALL STEEL M2 CARBINE STOCK.

Lot # 2358 (Sale Order: 356 of 661)

As the Korean War continued into 1952, the US struggled to obtain enough walnut to stock their small arms production and began looking for other alternatives. Springfield had 4 steel stocks fabricated, likely by the Higgins Pressed Steel Company. This stock along with another similar prototype surfaced at a gun shop in Pasadena in the 1970s. This example is constructed of unfinished stamped 20 gauge soft stamped steel with an integral oiler clip and M2 cut. The standard butt plate fits tightly but is not affixed. An "A" marked bayonet lug barrel band is also included. This stock is pictured on page 1285 of Ruth's "WAR BABY III". CONDITION: Good displaying an overall unfinished, age turned blended brown patina. One of only 2 known surviving all steel carbine stocks. PROVENANCE: Larry Ruth Collection

(C) US SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1899 PHILIPPINE CONSTABULARY KRAG CARBINE.

Lot # 2361 (Sale Order: 359 of 661)

In 1906, General Allen requested that 5000 modified Krag carbines for the Philippine Constabulary be assembled from cut down rifle stocks and modified to accept the Krag knife bayonet. All Philippine carbines have a 22" barrel with the muzzle turned down to accept the Krag knife bayonet. The shortened stock has an almost invisible wood plug inserted into the end of which only an outline is visible. All were stamped after final completion on left side J.F.C. (James F. Coyle) , the civilian inspector who came to work at the Springfield Armory in 1907. The 1898 carbine handguard was rounded at face to meet the barrel band. The rear sight is an 1898 C marked carbine sight. The butt plate has a trap door. Sling swivels on stock and barrel band. Standard blue and case color finish with fire blue small parts and extractor. The receiver is stamped US MODEL 1899 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. These are not to be confused with the countless number of surplus cut down Krag rifles that were sold wholesale by the likes of Bannerman's or Stoke's. This carbine comes with an 1898 US Krag marked knife bayonet. The wood grips are stamped __NY K26. The scabbard is finished in high polish blue. CONDITION: Excellent. The barrel retains nearly all the factory blue finish starting to blend patina. The fire blue extractor is dulling. The casehardened receiver, side-plate and loading gate have patterned out to a mottled blue grey appearance but were dark as factory finished and never the bright case colors as you would find on a Winchester of the era. The stock is excellent with sharp inspector stamp as well as the cursive P, showing usual minor impressions. Hand guard is not cracked. Action is smooth. Bore is bright. The band and forend are smooth patina. The bayonet and scabbard are in excellent condition. This is an extremely nice condition example of a very hard to find Krag. Accessories: Bayonet Barrel Length: 22" Caliber/Bore: .30-40 Krag FFL Status: Curio & Relic Manufacturer: Springfield Model: 1899 Krag Carbine Serial Number: 228385
