Rare Early American Law Book "The Pocket Companion, or Every Man His Own Lawyer" 1819 Third Edition

This book was housed in the Kennedy Free Library which was the first public library in Spartanburg SC in 1885, this library was founded by the wife of Dr. Lionel Chalmers...more Kennedy, confederate CW surgeon, 600 of his books were donated as well as others from prominent local citizens, when opened the library contained 900 volumes. many of our future listings come from this important Spartanburg institution. Book is bound in paper boards with black leather spine, interior front cover has label from the library, front and back empty pages has writing from the donator of book William T. Rowland, interior is intact with some page toning from age. This is an early American published law book that was for use by the general public who may have never studied law.

This section offered is found in near fine condition with part of spine of section intact, similar examples have been selling for $300-600 dollars.

This fine woodcut was produced of high standard quality, hand colored, book plate is housed in a archival quality mat, page has some age toning, hand written numbering and writing, overall for its rarity and age I would rate as near fine example. Owner of plate found this book back in the late 1990's at an antique show, he kept a few examples of book plates and sold the rest to an Atlanta Ga. print dealer. Complete copies of this work sell as high as $35,000.00. here's your chance to own a piece of medieval natural history.
