Swedish Lahti Model 40, WWII 9mm Luger Pistol

Lot # 106 (Sale Order: 127 of 529)

Included in this lot is a superb condition World War II Swedish Lahti Model 40, 9mm Luger caliber semi-auto pistol. The Lahti is a semi-auto pistol with 5 ½” barrel and 8-shot magazine. Designed by Aimo Johannes Lahti, these excellent quality, ruggedly reliable pistols were produced by the famed Husqvarna Company and adopted as the standard Swedish sidearm in 1942. Approximately 84,000 were manufactured before production ceased at the end of the war in 1946. Combining the excellent ergonomics of the Luger with the mechanical advantage of not having the Luger’s temperamental toggle bolt design, made the Lahti one of the world’s most attractive and functional handguns ever manufactured. So good was this design, one can see close similarities in Ruger’s popular .22LR auto pistols that have been in constant production since 1949. This example Lahti Model 40 has the matching serial number D 13279 on the sides of the frame and barrel assembly. It is also marked HUSQVARNA VAPENFABRIKS A B.” On the rear of the barrel assembly below the bolt is the correct Crown over H V proof mark. Just ahead of the ejection port is “SWEDEN.” Making this pistol particularly desirable is the attribute that there is no importation stamp indicating that this example was not a surplus buy-out by an American arms distributor for resale in the United States. A near factory new condition example, this Lahti Model 40 retains nearly 100% of its factory blue finish along with perfect, correct and original black checkered grips. This pistol is mechanically perfect with bright, minty sharp bore. It is complete with the original magazine and is simply one of the best examples extant. It would be nearly impossible to improve upon this outstanding World War II pistol. Seldom seen without importation stampings and almost never encountered in this new, unissued condition. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Winchester 1887 Lever Action 12 Gauge Shotgun

Lot # 107 (Sale Order: 128 of 529)

For your consideration is a very rare antique production Winchester 1887 Lever Action 12 Gauge Shotgun, serial number 64354, made in 1898. This model was designed by John Browning and brought Winchester into the forefront of the repeating shotgun business. The 1887 was cherished for its reliability and fire power. Many were used by freight carriers like Wells Fargo, train guards, prison guards and lawmen of the West. Sportsmen who were used to handling lever action rifles also found favor with the 1887 lever action shotgun. Most examples found today show very hard frontier and field use and often display considerable abuse and replaced parts. This is a particularly attractive example that has seen no cleaning, sanding, steel wooling or abuse of any kind. The metal surfaces are smooth and show an uncleaned dark natural patina on the receiver. The barrel and magazine tube show an attractive full aged blue finish and retains a much better than normally encountered fine bright bore! The barrel top just ahead of the receiver is correctly marked “12” indicating this desirable gauge. The Winchester markings and patent dates on the lower tang are correct and sharp as is the “WRA Co” (Winchester Repeating Arms Company) entwined logo on the left side of the receiver. The screws are in generally excellent condition showing this gun was rarely if ever taken apart. Retains the original checkered steel shotgun butt plate (these often changed or replaced with rubber recoil pads), wood is unsanded and shows excellent original finish. The wood also displays very tight wood to metal fit overall. Correct and original 30” barrel (this was the correct and standard length barrel offered by Winchester for this model). It also retains the original brass bead front sight, mechanically crisp and tight. This 121 year old Winchester is a very difficult historical model to locate in any condition and this one is far above most that have survived to the present. Overall, a most attractive unaltered example that would be at home in the finest firearm, Winchester or Old West collection. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Winchester Model 1895 .30-06 Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 108 (Sale Order: 129 of 529)

Included in this lot is a very fine condition Winchester Model 1895 in rare .30-06 caliber with correct 24” barrel, serial number 84857. According to the Winchester records housed at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming, this serial number indicates that this rifle was manufactured in 1913. The standard caliber for the Model 1895 was .30-40 Krag making a rifle chambered in .30-06 a scarce caliber. This nearly 107 year old example displays deep blue covering nearly all of the barrel with only normal light ageing. The receiver displays an attractive aged blue mixing naturally with an uncleaned gray/brown patina. There is fine blue on the bolt (receiver top) and on the box magazine and lever. The front sight is a Marble #57 blade/bead (and so marked) along with a buckhorn rear sight. All the correct Winchester markings on the barrel and upper tang are sharp and clear. The caliber marking on the barrel side is correctly stamped “.30 GOVT. 1906.” The stock is in excellent condition. The forend with correct factory ebony inlay schnable tip is equally excellent. The forend wood shows a darker color indicating that it may have spent a good deal of time in a leather saddle scabbard. The action on this example is tight and the bore is excellent, bright and has very sharp rifling. This is a scarce caliber Model 1895 that has seen normal use, but was exceptionally well maintained. The 1895 was another Jonathan Browning designed action that is unique among lever action rifles in that it has a box magazine ahead of the trigger designed to hold five cartridges. Because the loaded rounds in the magazine are stacked, pointed bullets could be utilized offering much better terminal ballistics than the blunt, flat nose bullets required for tubular magazines in which one cartridge is placed directly ahead of the previous with the bullet tip centered on the primer on the next shell. In this traditional kind of tubular magazine, a pointed bullet could detonate another round in the magazine when so loaded. Obviously, this is not the case with the box magazine of a Model 1895. Interestingly, the Model 1895 in several calibers accompanied Theodore Roosevelt on his famed year-long African Safari of 1909. At the time it was considered the most modern and powerful lever action rifle of its day. This is very fine example in a very scarce and desirable caliber. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Winchester Model 1886 .40-65 Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 109 (Sale Order: 130 of 529)

Offered for bidding is a Winchester 1886 rifle in big .40-65 caliber, manufactured c.1890s. This is a very fine condition octagon barrel rifle in one of the more scarce and desirable caliber's chambered for this model. This particular rifle shows that it was probably returned to the Winchester factory for alterations. It now sports a 21 inch octagon barrel and full magazine making it a perfect saddle rifle. It is important to note that the magazine retaining band is located in exactly the proper location from the muzzle. This is important because almost all shortened Winchesters that were done outside the factory have the magazine retaining band located in the wrong location. At the time of this alteration from standard rifle to rare “Short Rifle,” the lower tang was probably also replaced as it lacks the usual Winchester markings. The barrel, magazine and forend cap show a very deep high polish blue and the wood is in excellent condition showing no signs of cleaning or sanding. The stock and forend are without chips or cracks. This rifle exhibits exceptionally tight wood to metal fit, shows almost no handling or storage marks and retains the early style heavy steel crescent butt plate. The screws are also in exceptional condition with most indicating that they have not been turned or removed- very unusual! The barrel and magazine are smooth and show sharp original early style Winchester and caliber markings. Markings on the upper tang are sharp and correct showing “MODEL 1886” etc. clear stampings. The receiver is naturally aged to a mottled gray with fine blue on the loading gate and also shows no signs of rust or abuse. The action and mechanics are tight and crisp and the bore IS IN BRIGHT MINT CONDITION! The barrel retains original buckhorn rear sight with a small bone blade front sight. Most of these big caliber Winchesters were western shipped and used. They also typically saw hard frontier service. This unusual short rifle has survived in outstanding condition. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.

Winchester Model 1873 .38-40 24" Octagonal Rifle

Lot # 116 (Sale Order: 139 of 529)

Included in this lot is a Winchester 1873 octagon rifle in famed frontier caliber .38-40, serial number 420475, made in 1892. This is the classic “Gun That Won the West!” A particularly fine condition example, this 127 year old Winchester displays a fine aged blue patina on the receiver with more blue on the loading gate and in the protected areas. The 24” octagon barrel and magazine tube retain excellent and clear Winchester markings along with an attractive deep blue finish. All original wood displays the desirable tight wood to metal fitting around the upper and lower tangs indicating that it has never been sanded or replaced. Even the excellent condition screw heads indicate this rifle has not been taken apart or worked on. This rifle has the original steel crescent butt plate with the correct sliding brass door for holding cleaning rods. It retains a very tight action and strong springs. The sliding dust cover on the receiver top is original (these usually found missing or replaced). The brass lifter on the bottom of the receiver is un-polished and shows an attractive mellow patina. It is correctly factory marked “38 CAL.” The lever catch is also intact. This fine large caliber Model 1873 is in far better condition than normally encountered on the collector market today. Even the bore retains good rifling throughout. The buckhorn rear sight and blade front sight are Winchester original and have been on the rifle since it left the Winchester warehouse. A fine example of a rifle produced in a factory before the widespread use of electricity that is as good and solid today as it was on the day it was made. The Model 1873 was the standard for lever actions throughout the Frontier Period in the West which, in some areas, lasted well into the twentieth century. Most surviving specimens show heavy use and often abuse with broken or missing parts. This fine rifle in the very desirable large caliber .38-40 recently came out of Arizona and is in a far higher state of preservation than normally found. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
