Sioux Parfleche Sheath & Jukescoul Bowie Knife

Lot # 178 (Sale Order: 201 of 537)      

The lot features a Sioux Native American Indian polychrome parfleche knife sheath with a large Jukescoul Hudson Bay Camp Bowie Knife. The knife is marked, "NONXXL Jukescoul Son & Co Sheffield" and was known as the Hudson Bay Co. Fur Trade Camp Bowie Knife. The knife shows a heavy construction with Buffalo Bison Horn grips and Brass/Copper spots and hilt. This pattern of Camp Bowie Knife was imported by the Hudson Bay Co. and was distributed by various fur traders in the early 19th century, approximately circa 1840's. The knife shows some rust spots, but overall in good condition. The Bowie Knife is 13 5/8"L with a 9"L x 2 1/8"W blade. Sheath is 3.75"W x 16.25"L (with strap). Together is 14 3/8"L.

North West Co. Copper Fish Necklace 18th-19th C.

Lot # 179 (Sale Order: 202 of 537)      

This is a North West Company of Montreal, Quebec, Canada copper fish effigy gorget pendant from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The piece shows amber and copper beads restrung on a metal wire. North West Co. was the major competitor and bitter rival of the Hudson Bay Fur Trading Co. NWC was forced to merge with HBC by the British Government in 1821 due to their violent competition with several minor armed skirmishes breaking out. The piece pre-dates the merger and is an excellent museum quality early Northern Plains Native American Indian artifact. The fish effigy shows clear, “MONTREAL”, “NWC (in a heart), and two other pictorial hallmarks. The piece is marked on the obverse and reverse. The effigy pendant is 4.25”L x 1.75”W. Necklace overall is 30”L strung.

Hudson Bay Montreal Silver Cross 1780-1840

Lot # 180 (Sale Order: 203 of 537)      

This is an original wonderfully hand worked piece by a master silversmith of the Montreal Hudson Bay Fur Trade Co. The piece was believed to have been made circa 1780-1840 and shows the following hallmarks: “P.H”, “HB (with beaver above)”, walking lion pictorial hallmark, the crown a ring an a cross, and “MONTREAL”. The necklace is strung on sinew with excellent Russian Faceted 18th century glass trade beads and copper trade beads. The cross shows an inlaid hafted Russian Faceted bead along the center and a heart cutout below. The cross is 4.75”L x 3”W. Necklace is 27”L strung.

Antique Lantaka Cannon

Hmong Chinese Monkey Sniper Rifle CIA Bring Back

Lot # 190 (Sale Order: 213 of 537)      

This is an exceedingly rare original Hmong Chinese monkey rifle sniper rifle that was brought back to the USA from Vietnam by a CIA operative. The rifle is a muzzle loading flintlock musket. The rifle was used by the Hmong tribesmen led by the CIA against Communist forces in the 1950’s. The rifle shows considerable age and was most likely handed down through generations. This was originally used as a monkey rifle as monkey is a great delicacy in the Hmong culture. The piece shows a blacksmith barrel and flint lock with a rare carved full wood stock. The barrel is held with the stock using metal wraps. The piece comes with the Hmong powder horn. Exact age of the piece is unknown, but could be from as early as the 18th century. Overall length 53".

This is a pair of Renaissance Era carved wooden putti angels. Each of the angels has been hand carved and is jointed at the shoulder and wings. They have a wonderfully aged look with a crackled paint effect. The putti angels are in good overall condition. They do show some wear wood shrinkage consistent with age. Also, one of the angels is missing the right eye as shown. Each one measures 14" wide and 24" tall.

This lot features a Geiger security line 999 fine silver bar. This piece is new in its original wrapper and security label. In contrast to other bars, the edge is not smooth, but ribbed as a coin in order to prevent manipulations like filing off small pieces. The reverse side is textured, showing the LEV-rombus. All bars are marked. The entire production process is retraceable to the batch of raw material. The bar was minted in 2013. It measures 3 5/8" L x 2" W x 7/16" D

Northern Plains Wolf Scout Mittens 19th-20th C.

Lot # 199 (Sale Order: 223 of 537)      

This is a set of Northern Plains Native American Indian war party scout wolf mittens from circa 19th to 20th century. The gloves or mittens show a Wolf fur and hide construction with each being made from the head and neck area of the hide. The end of each shows a mouth area with chalk white 19th century glass trade beads representing the teeth and the eye area showing iridescent faceted seed beads and copper seed beads for the eyes. The mittens are lined inside with wolf fur and the palm area shows a Caribou hide wrap. Provenance: From a private museum collection in Missouri and from the same collection as the Wolf Scout Hat that we sold on 1/16/16 for $4,165. The hide shows some fur loss and cracking indicative of age. Each mitten is 10.75”L x 7.5”W.

This is a Northern Plains Native American Indian polychrome parflache wrapped fan showing Trukey Vulture feathers. The piece is from the 19th century. The piece shows wonderful polychrome mineral painted parfleche in red and green. The fan artifact is not commonly seen and is truly a museum quality piece. Provenance: From a very large private French Collection of Native American Indian artifacts. Originally purchased at a very fine Indian Artifact auction for over $2,500. Measures overall 16.5"L.
