Chief John Two Guns Wh...moreite Calf (1871–1934) was a controversial leader who led the secret Mad Dog Society, which was preserving Blackfoot heritage. He was reviving traditional dances that had been banned, such as the ghost dance. His signature is wonderful, with the drawing of two rifles and a calf. The image was taken by photographer T. J. Hileman in 1927, who is renowned for his Glacier National Park photos, where Chief John Two Guns White Calf made his home. CHIEF "LITTLE ROBE", CIRCA 1872. William H. Jackson was the photographer on the Hayden Geological Survey in the Yellowstone 1871-1872. Little Robe, Cheyenne "Ski-o-mah" (...more1828-1886) was well known warrior who Col. John Chivington, 3rd Colo. Cav, claimed to have killed at Sand Creek, Colorado, but reports of his death were greatly exaggerated. The massacre at Sand Creek compelled Little Robe to wage war against whites, but he soon came to the conclusion that such actions were hopeless. He participated in several peace negotiations from 1867-1868. In March 1869, he was camped at Sweetwater Creek, Texas, and met with Col. George A. Custer negotiating the release of two white women captives, Little Robe surrendered at Fort Cobb, and assumed the role of principle chief of the peace faction. Chief Little Robe was a member of delegations in Washington, meeting President Grant in 1873, an advocate for peace till his death. CONDITION: very good.
