Rear of bbl. marked "P" & "US". ...moreNo other discernable markings. Touch hole has a halo around it. Gun may have possibly been reconverted to flint. Lock is sluggish but functional when hand cycled. Walnut stock w/ hardwood ramrod. Left stock flat has faint US inspector's cartouche. CONDITION: stock appears sanded long ago w/ older, added finish, several cracks, some chips, scattered dings, abrasions & handling wear. Right side of buttstock is marked "Z N" near the buttplate, with what appears to be "A E" marked on the wrist. Left side of bbl. bands exhibit a single crown proof. Plain wood buttstock and forend. Blade front sight with adj. aperture rear sight. Rear bbl. band is not present. CONDITION: metal components exhibit a dark mottled gray patina, exhibiting areas of pitting and scattered handling marks overall. Good bore, exhibiting scattered spots of mild pitting and good rifling throughout. Wood furniture exhibits scattered marks, dings, and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-24934/MLW). ANTIQUE. $400-600.

NEPALESE ENFIELD SINGLE SHOT ARTILLERY CARBINE.

Lot # 3085 (Sale Order: 90 of 487)      

Cal. .303 British. NSN. Bbl. 25 1/8". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1700 yards. Ramp type front sight. This carbine has apparently seen considerable service in Eastern A...moresia. The basic action appears to be of Enfield Manufacture and has the expected "view marks" and "broad arrows", however the marking at the top rear of the receiver and on the steel ID disk in the buttstock indicates likely Nepalese service. Receiver is marked on right side with "crown VR" / "ENFIELD" / "1881" and "ICI". The balance of the metal parts contain the expected "view marks" and "broad arrows". The barrel which is rifled with conventional rifling in the Enfield style is marked "E" over chamber. Hard wood stock set with short hand guard extending only to the rear sight. Forend retained by 2 bands. Upper band has stacking swivel, bayonet lug and cleaning rod. Swivels are mounted in the lower band and at the toe of the buttstock. The buttstock has numerous round headed steel tacks on both sides. Steel trap buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has extensive wear, staining, and handling marks. Notable missing chips around rear of action. Approximately 6" crack on right side of butt. Hand guard is cracked along right side. Metal, while cleaned, shows extensive wear with oxidation and moderate pitting throughout. Rear sight and cleaning rod have notable damage. Trigger pivot screw is partly missing. Worn, dark oxidized bore. (01-24637/RW). ANTIQUE. $200-400.

FINE “CONFEDERATE STATES ARMORY” KENANSVILLE, NC

CAVALRY SABER. Classic saber made at Louis Froelich’s “Confederate States Armory” in Kenansville, North Carolina. Distinct Froelich features include pointed heavy beveled...more lozenge shaped guard, matching Roman numeral assembly marks on guard and brass throat of scabbard. Froelich scabbards are unique lap seamed, pinned brass throat, large flat brass sword rings, squared tip, iron drag, dark red lacquer. This saber is a beautiful “as found” survivor. You will not find a much better blade on a Confederate cavalry saber. CONDITION: very good to fine overall with complete 95% leather grip, chipped and scoffed, single brass wire wrap, the 35” unstopped fuller blade is superior retaining much of its original factory polish, stained, rusted and light pitting. matching assembly “IX” on hilt and throat, matching dark brass patina throughout. Scabbard is in matching fine condition, most of its darkened red/brown lacquer surface is retained. (02-21837/JS). $3,000-4,000.

The ricasso is etched “G.W. SIMMONS & CO BOSTON, MA”. Gilded brass hilt with one folding guard featuring a spray of arms and a fixed guard with an eagle & flags. Foliate-decorated knuckle bow with eagle & shield pommel. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass-mounted plated scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with minor spotting. Hilt retains areas of the original gilded finish. Grip & wire are complete. Scabbard mounts have a trace of gilding remaining. Plating on the body is about 50% worn. The blade is etched over the first 19” with i...morentricate foliate motifs, sprays of arms, a spread-winged eagle, and a large “U.S.” The ricasso is stamped “W. CLAUBERG (knight) SOLINGEN.” Gilded brass hilt with floral-decorated, pierced semi-basket guard with a large “US.” Pommel has foliate decoration with a central federal shield, along with further embellishments at the cap. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Embellished brass-mounted browned iron scabbard. The top mount has a shield suitable for a presentation, and the bottom mount has a well-done eagle over a federal shield. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with some light staining. Hilt is undamaged and retains 40% of its original gilding. Grip & wire are virtually complete. Scabbard shows traces of original gilding on the mounts, coupled with a deep, rich red patina. The bottom mount has a notable dent 3” back from the tip. CIVIL WAR PERIOD BY CLAUBERG. Overall length: 40”. Blade length: 32”. Blade has a single wide fuller and an etched central 8” panel on each side with an American eagle on...more one side and “U.S.” on the other. The ricasso is marked “SCHUYLER HARTLEY & GRAHAM NEW YORK” & “W. CLAUBERG (knight) SOLINGEN." Iron semi-basket hilt with eagle and “US” design pierced and cut out of the guard. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray, cleaned patina with evidence of light pitting on the lower half of the blade and some nicks to the edge. Hilt is in fine condition with good detail and no damage. Grip is complete, but wire is missing one strand on six of the eight double wire wraps. Scabbard has a dark, mottled patina. Overall length: 38 3/4". Blade length: 31”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The blade is etched over the first 16” with intrica...morete foliate motifs, a spray of arms, and a large “U.S.” The ricasso is stamped “COLLINS & CO HARTFORD CON. 1862” and engraved “S.H.G. & CO 19 Maiden Lane New York.” Gilded brass hilt with pierced guard showing foliate & floral motifs. Knuckle bow is scroll-decorated as it nears the pommel. Pommel has laurel & oak leaf decoration, along with a slightly stepped cap. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass-mounted browned iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with vivid etching. Hilt shows areas of the original gilded finish. Grip is approx. 80%, but the wire is complete. Scabbard mounts show traces of original gilding. The top mount has a cutout shield on the front & back. The tip shows several shallow dents.
