Cal. 30-06. S# 3092124. Bbl. 24". Remington 8-42 dated with a flaming bomb. Blade front sight. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2700yds without volley notch. Bolt parts, ma...moreg cutoff, rear sight, and front band are all "R" marked for Remington. Other parts appear unmarked. Metal has differing shades of arsenal-parkerized finish. Receiver, bolt, cutoff, and bbl. markings have added white highlight paint. Two-bolt walnut stock with finger grooves and bottom-mounted sling swivels. Bottom of wrist has two partially faded circled "P" firing proofs. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: GI canvas muzzle cover marked "TWEEDIE 1944" and "U.S.". CONDITION: refinished stock set has added varnish with a repaired 2" crack running from behind the upper tang into the left side of the stock, some improper band removal wear, and some handling marks. Metal retains 80% of its arsenal-parkerized finish with scattered thinning and edge wear. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Bright, near excellent bore. (24-5813/MJC). CURIO. $600-800.

Milled smooth buttplate with replacement trap. Milled triggerguard, butt swivel and lower band. Stamped upper bands are from 1903-A3. Early "S" type stock with single recoil bolt and high wood. Lower clip is not present in handguard. CONDITION: Unmarked stock with arsenal rework finish has moderate wear with numerous dents and scratches. Cutoff recess has been modified with the removal of additional wood. Metal has mix of worn arsenal rework finishes from a long service life. Front sight attached to barrel by brazing. These rifles were made to be used with the Pedersen Device, a ...moresecret development that converted a bolt-action rifle to a semi-auto with a large capacity magazine. The receiver has an additional "MARK I" added to the markings. There is an ejection port in the left receiver rail, and the stock has been lowered for clearance. The rifle as originally made had a trigger equipped with a double pawl, and the cutoff had an extra notch. The Pedersen Device was not used, and many rifles had the special parts replaced with standard issue types when given an overhaul, as is the case with this rifle. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards without volley notch. Flat windage and elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Bolt with straight-down handle marked "I" under safety lug. All milled furniture except the upper swivel. Smooth trap buttplate. Walnut stock set. S-type stock with two recoil bolts. No markings are visible. Green web sling. UNNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Model 1942 bayonet with 15 7/8" fullered blade, marked on the left ricasso "U.F.H. U.S. (flaming bom) 1943". grooved composite grips. Green plastic scabbard with metal throat, marked "USN MK 1." Bayonet retains a large degree of its parkerized finish. CONDITION: stock set has an arsenal rework finish with moderate wear, staining, and handling marks. Dove-tailed repair on the right side of the comb. Circular, 3/4" inletted repair on the left side of the forend. Metal is a mix of worn finishes. Bore is shiny with worn lands. PROVENANCE: from The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (24-4599/RW). Cal. 30-06. S#1106971. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 11-19". These interesting rifles were made to accept the world war I " Pedersen Dev...moreice" this device was a way to change a bolt action rifle to a fast firing hi-capacity semi-auto firing a reduced power cartridge. The switch over could be done by the soldier in the field from one mode to the other very quickly. The device did not prove popular so the rifles were rebuilt with standard parts as they came back to the arsenals for overhaul. Ladder rear sight w/o volley notch graduated to 2850 yards. Blade front sight. The receiver with its ejection slot on the left rail has "MARK I" on the right side of the ring. The other MK I parts have been replaced by standard types. Bolt is Remington 1903-A3 marked "R". Cutoff marked "R". All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. Unmarked scant grip model 1903-A3 walnut stock. CONDITION: Stock has original finish with moderate wear and numerous scratches and handling marks. Metal retains a large degree of an early reblue with thinning and wear. FINE EXAMPLE OF US WWI SPRINGFIELD MARK I BOLT

ACTION MILITARY RIFLE FOR THE PEDERSEN DEVICE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1134273. These rifles were manufactured at Springfield Armory starting in late 1918 for the then secret "Ped...moreersen Device" which allowed a soldier to change the bolt action Springfield rifle to a 40 shot semi-auto using a pistol sized cartridge. The end of the war ended the need for the devices and nearly all of them were eventually destroyed in the 1930's. Many if not most of the specially equipped rifles were rebuilt with standard parts. This fine example retains all of its original parts. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 10-19". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/o volley notch. Blade front sight. Receiver has the ejection port on the left side. Receiver ring has the added " MARK I". The swept handle bolt is marked under safety lug "J 5" and has the punch proof under handle. Small gas hole. Extractor has gas hole. Original double pawl trigger. Cutoff is notched to retain the device in rifle. Cutoff pin has screwdriver slot. Walnut stock set. Straight grip stock with grasping grooves and two recoil bolts is marked only with "50" assembly number behind trigger guard. The encircled "P" proof is obscured by a number of small shallow dents. The handguard appears to be a later replacement. All milled furniture including fine checkered trap buttplate. Brown leather model 1907 sling marked 'L-F CO. / 1918 / A.R.S.". UNNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: original finish stock set has light wear and handling marks notable in the grip area. Metal retains 80% of its original dark Parkerized finish with thinning and light wear. Bore has moderately worn lands with frosted grooves. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. "S" type walnut stock without grasping grooves has 2 recoil bolts. Faint "P" proof under grip. All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. "S" type straight grip stock marked on the left side with faintly boxed "JFC" and Boxed "BA"/ "E". which indicates an overhaul at Benecia Arsenal. The cutoff recess has an "R" which would mean a stock manufactured at Springfield and supplied to Rock Island. There are two "P" proofs under the grip, one encircled and one partially boxed. Well worn Model 1907 leather sling with brass hooks dated "1918". UNNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock set has been lightly cleaned with added finish leaving light wear and handling marks. Metal has 90% of its arsenal rework parkerization with very light wear. Very good shiny bore. Bolt assembly is Remington 1903-A3. All milled furniture except the fine checkered stamped buttplate. Walnut stock set. The buttstock is a 1903-A3 full pistol grip type marked "K" in cutoff recess. The receiver h...moreas polished bolt way and tiny punch mark in the right rail. Gas hole in right side of receiver. The ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards is marked "R" on the ladder and moveable base. The rifle is equipped with a Lyman Model 48 rear sight. The sight parts are all matching. Slide graduated to 125 points. Target type screw in sight aperture with adjustable iris. Stock is cut for sight base. The front sight moveable base has been replaced with a vintage Lyman target globe sight equipped aperture disk. Bolt with swept handle is marked "NS" on top and "7" underneath. Bolt is electric penciled to match and appears to be subject to a degree of hand fitting. Single small gas escape hole. Cocking piece with standard knob is marked "CV". Safety is not reversed. All milled furniture including trigger guard. Grooved trigger. C Type walnut stock set with 2 recoil bolts. Stock has faint boxed "D.A.L." on left side over trigger guard and encircled "P" proof under grip. Marked "S" in cutoff recess. Buttstock has hand stamped S# ahead of butt swivel. Buttplate has been replaced with checkered cast aluminum target type giving a LOP approx. 13 3/4". This buttplate appears to replace the issued plate without stock modification. Brown leather Model 1907 type sling. CONDITION: stock set has a professional refinish with added finish leaving the inspector's mark faint except where polished metal retains a large amount of lightly worn original blue. Bore is bright and shiny but lands show light wear. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Jim Williams. (24-2706/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.

EXTREMELY RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903

INTERNATIONAL MATCH STYLE B TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1294230. These rifles are described in the book: THE SPRINGFIELD 1903 RIFLES by LT. COL. WILLIAM S. BROPHY, USAR,...more RET. This rifle appears nearly identical to the one of a lot of three known specimens shown in a photograph and described on page 138 with the exception that the raised cheek piece has a somewhat lower comb than the specimen pictured. The rifle has an unmarked 28" barrel, one inch in diameter at the muzzle not fitted with front sight. The receiver manufactured in 1928 is equipped with a base for a Lyman 48 sight. The slide assembly is not present. The bolt which is in the white has been numbered to match in electro-pencil. Headless cocking piece and reversed safety. The rifle has a Winchester A-5 Telescopic sight mounted on scope blocks 7 1/4" on center. The scope with a blued steel tube 3/4" in diameter has a heavy crosshair reticle. The scope is marked on top with the Winchester name, address, patent information and "-A5". The unmarked walnut stock is retained by one barrel band. It has an adjustable hook buttplate and military style sling swivels. The prominent raised cheekpiece is neatly inletted in place and secured by two dowels. CONDITION: the stock has most of its original finish showing the light wear associated with careful use. The right side of the butt has an area of brown coating along the seam of the cheekpiece. The metal retains a very large degree of its original armory blue finish with only very light wear. The scope has most of its original blue except the end pieces which are turning grey. Optics are slightly cloudy but serviceable. Bore is bright and shiny but has very lightly worn lands. (24-4758/RW). CURIO. $2,500-3,000.

CAL..22". Receiver is fitted with a Lyman 48 sight with matching numbers and a slide graduated to 125 points. The front sight has a standard fixed base with an unmarked globe and aperture in place of the moveable base. The rifle has scope blocks 7 1/4" on center which carry a Fecker external adjustable scope . The scope has a 3/4" blued steel tube held in Fecker alloy mounts. The tube is marked on the top left rear "J.W. FECKER/ 2066". Parallax adjustment in center of scope. Crosshair reticle. Bright bolt has headless cocking piece. Unmarked walnut stock with checkered shotgun style buttplate. Forend has grasping grooves and correct barrel band. Brown leather military style sling. MAGS: 1-5rd unmarked. CONDITION: Stock has been professionally refinished softening the edges of the grasping grooves. The grip has been slightly modified on both sides at the end. The metal retains a large degree of its original finish with light wear and handling marks. Scope has most of its blue finish with very light wear. Optics are cloudy with inclusions at the edges but appear serviceable. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. (24-4763/RW). CURIO. $1400-1900.

RIFLE. Cal.30-06. S# 1269034. Bbl. 30". These heavy barrel target rifles were produced at Springfield Armory between 1922 and 1930. They were used both by the military an...mored by civilian match shooters who desired extreme accuracy at long range. The serial number on the receiver indicates a manufacture date of 1925. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman 48 receiver sight graduated to 125 points. The sight has matching numbers, small knobs and a flip up aperture. It is also has an accessory screw in disk 11/16" in diameter. The Lyman blade front sight is dovetailed into a base adapted at the arsenal from the Browning automatic rifle. Scope bases are fitted to the receiver ring and behind the barrel band with a 7 1/4" center to center spacing. The bolt is in the white and has a small gas hole. Bolt handle is marked "M L 3". Extractor has gas hole. Headless cocking piece. Reversed safety. Unmarked walnut stock. Forend is retained by one band equipped with swivel. Pistol grip butt with checkered cup buttplate and bottom swivel. CONDITION: stock has nice original finish with very light wear and scattered small handling marks. Small area of replaced wood behind rear sight barely visible except on very close examination. Metal retains around 80% of its original blue with small areas of light wear. Bore is shiny but with lightly worn lands and the appearance of light frosting in grooves. (24-4757/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
