STEPHEN DECATUR GOLD FUSSE POCKET WATCH.

Early fancy Fusse pocket watch in double gold case, London assay hallmarked case for 1777. Movement engraved "Peacock 3847, Royal Exchange London". The watch has an attac...morehed old ink inscription on Stephen Decatur calling card, it reads: "Thomas Ten Eyck's watch which my father Commodore Stephen Decatur [1752-1808] always wore and although blind, he could always quickly tell the time by sense of touching the hands with his fingers". Thomas Ten Eyck (1742-1808) daughter, Marie Susana married Commodore Stephen Decatur, Jr (1779-1820) brother Colonel John Pine Decatur (1786-1832). Wealthy men of this era carried these first Fusse watches with these elaborate complex mechanisms that kept best time possible. Watch appears complete and mechanism may work, but is sold as-is, both hands intact, white enamel dial has several cracks. Also include in lot is 2" oval silver plated napkin ring inscribed "Stephen Decatur Jr", large cut on edge and scratches. PROVENANCE: James D. FACTORY ENGRAVED MARLIN RIFLE & WILD WEST SHOW ARCHIVE. The Stagecoach Museum of Shakopee, Minnesota was founded in March, 1952 by the Klavestad family. It originally hou...moresed a small restaurant as well as the gun collection. The gun collection featured many historically significant firearms including a John Brown sharps rifle & pieces with provenance to Buffalo Bill Cody, Annie Oakley & Calamity Jane among others. The many rare firearms of the museum are documented in the book "The Stagecoach Museum Gun Collection" published by Ray S. Saign, Richard Donaldson & Fred Fiet. Pictured on page 21 of the book is the Marlin 1897 engraved & gold finished rifle. The caption states "Purchased from William F. Buffalo Bill Cody in St. Paul Minnesota in 1911 by Mr. Claus Klavestad for his son, Osborne, while they were attending Cody's Wild West Show". In addition to being pictured on page 21, this rifle also appears on the inside cover along with Annie Oakley's Stevens rifle which sold for $516,000 in a 2020 auction along with some ephemera displayed on same pages This high grade Marlin 1897 is cal. 22 S, L, LR. S# 194721. Bbl. 24" octagon to round. Rocky mountain front sight w/ filler in rear dovetail. 2/3 length tubular mag. Action has style No. 10 factory engraving. Circular vignette on the left side shows a woodland scene w/ white tail buck. Balance of action has arabesque scroll engraving w/ fancy borders. Action & forearm cap are gold plated. Forearm & S curve pistol grip stock of fancy walnut have hard rubber buttplate & grade D checkering. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: "TEN BEST ARMS AWARDS" plaque from the 1997 NRA show won by this Marlin rifle. Plaque includes description of the rifle & a silver NRA medal. Brass Stagecoach Museum tag No. 130 as pictured on the rifle on page 21 of the Stagecoach Museum Gun Collection book. Affidavit of provenance of purchase from Buffalo Bill Cody by owner of Stagecoach museum, Osborne Klavistad and his father. Marlin factory letter confirming configuration. CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain over 90% original blue. Action shows 60% gold finish. Original wood finish shows scattered scratches & marks. Bead front sight, elevator rear sight; drilled & tapped for Unertl scope blocks measuring approx. 6" between centers. Takedown action. Buttstock has replacement buttplate. CONDITION: very good barrel & mag. tube blue showing area of cleaned finish mixing with patina around loading port along with light muzzle wear, & scattered areas of brown patina. Very good case colors with peppery oxidation throughout. Forearm has good blistering finish with wear on right side & scattered small impressions. SAVAGE 1899-D MONTREAL HOME GUARD LEVER ACTION

RIFLE. Cal. 303. S# 165113. Canada entered WWI alongside Great Britain in August of 1914. Canada's small regular military & national guard were sent to Europe, leaving pr...moreimarily men over age 40 at home. Many jurisdictions formed their own Home Guard units to protect against invasion by the Germans. Prominent citizens of Montreal, Quebec, formed a Home Guard unit in 1914. As most suppliers of rifles had military contracts, the Montreal Home Guard turned to Savage for suitable arms. These were musket configuration. Bbls. 28" w/ turn down muzzles for bayonet attachment. Features included blue finish w/ case colored levers, pin type cocking indicators & brass rotary mags. w/ left side cartridge counters. Full length finger groove forearms w/ hand guards & straight grip walnut stocks w/ steel musket buttplates were standard. Other features included military ladder sights & sling swivels. This rifle is fitted w/ a German silver blade front sight & elevator adj. sporting rear sight. Buttplate peaks had rack numbers stamped by Savage, the highest number observed is 1,015. This rare rifle has rack number 500. This rifle differs from the standard Home Guard gun in having a sporter length schnable tipped forearm w/ finger grooves. This forearm has a plugged hole in the approx. position of the bbl. band w/ forearm mounted sling swivel. Serial numbers range from 162,000 to 175,500. The first shipments were in early December, 1914. Shipments of serial numbers in the 165,000 range arrived on three consecutive days in late December, 1914. Final shipments arrived in April, 1915. CONDITION: over 90% bright blue showing small scratches & marks on receiver. Lever retains 80% case colors. Buttplate retains 50% fading blue. Stock has original finish showing wear spots w/ scattered handling marks & a hairline crack behind the top tang. Forearm has worn finish w/ added wood repairs along bbl. line at both sides of receiver. The metal hand guard retainer is trimmed flush w/ the receiver. Bbl. is bright w/ very good rifling. (24-777/DS). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.

The hammerless action features a case colored breech block, jeweled slide bar, hand checkered trigger, right side slide release & top tang safety. Bbl. 24" oct. Gold ring front sight. Spirit level rear bbl. sight & combination tang sight. Tubular mag. Sm. tapered pump handle & straight grip stock of fancy walnut w/ burl grain. Features include point pattern hand checkering & crescent steel buttplate. The Meriden Fire Arms Co. produced firearms in Meriden, CT. from 1905-1918. The company was formed when Sears, Roebuck & Co. purchased the Andrew Fryeburg & Son Firearms Mfg. plant & moved the machinery to Meriden. The company's firearms were sold through the Sears catalogue as well as other retailers. The Meriden Model 15 slide action rifle was introduced in the fall of 1912 & is based on Savage patents. This design was later mfg. by Savage & known as the Model 29. CONDITION: bbl. & action retain over 90% lightly worn blue showing edge wear. Bolt retains vivid green toned case colors. Original wood finish shows moderate wear w/ scratches & handling marks. Sound mechanics. Bore has slightly darkened appearance retaining sound rifling. (24-940/DS). CURIO. $7,000-10,000.

CONDITION: bbl. & action finish has faded to gray-brown showing handling marks w/ series of small dents by rear sight. Buttplate retains 80% nickel finish. SCARCE REMINGTON KEENE BOLT ACTION SPORTING RIFLE.

Cal. 45-70. S# NSN. One of the first successful bolt action rifles designed. About 5,000 were made between 1880-83. Rifle has tubular magazine with single shot cut off le...morever on left side of action. The fairly scarce 28" half round, half octagon barrel is fitted with ladder type rear and German silver blade front sights. Octagon action has caliber marking on left rear. Bolt has all Remington markings at rear ahead of external hammer. Unusual pistol grip buttstock has steel buttplate and is checkered at grip and forend. CONDITION: good as partially refinished. Barrel and magazine retaining about half original blue, balance showing some cleaned light rusting. Action is in similar condition with very little blue remaining on bottom which is mostly brown. Stock has oil refinish and cleaned checkering and also exhibits well done repair in front of grip. Bore is shiny with scattered pitting, strong rifling throughout. Mechanically good. (01-25745/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
