DELUXE SHORT RIFLE FROM THE WES ADAMS COLLECTION. Cal. 40-82 WCF. S#. 37050. Bbl. 22" octagon to round, 4" shorter than standard. Rocky mountain front sight with sporting...more rear sight. Full length mag. Case colored action is factory engraved, likely by the hand of John Ulrich. Engraving is of the No. 6 style with vignette of a whitetail buck on the left side and a pointing setter on the right. Receiver, forend cap and buttplate peak have 50% coverage of arabesque scroll with fancy borders. Top tang has straight line borders. Short rifle length 8 3/8" forearm & pistol grip stock w/ ebony grip insert of XXX black walnut. Style H hand checkering & crescent steel buttplate. Left inside of lower tang is stamped w/ assembly no. "186" & wood grade marking "XXX". Top tang channel of stock inside toe of buttplate have matching assembly number "186". LOP: 14" as measured from line of trigger attachment to buttplate peak. DAC: 2 1/4". DAH: 3". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Museum detailing the following information, "Rifle / 40/82 / 22-inch, 1/2 octagon barrel / Plain trigger / Checkered stock / Pistol grip / Stock 14 inches long / Drop 3 inches / Engraved $4:00 / Rocky Mountain front sight / Received in the warehouse on November 19, 1889 / Shipped from the warehouse on November 19, 1889, to order number 4766". Also includes a hardbound copy by James D. Julia Inc. of "The Extraordinary Wes Adams Collection" as sold March 3, 2012, October 1, 2012 & March 11th, 2013. This extraordinary rifle is lot 2065 featured on page 69. CONDITION: very fine overall. Bbl. & mag. tube retain over 90% original blue showing light edge wear w/ small spotting on left side of bbl. Receiver retains brilliant case colors on lower tang w/ nicely visible case colors on top tang, left side & protected areas of action. Other areas show fading to gray. Right side & bottom of action have dark spots of corrosion w/ some light pitting. Original wood finish shows areas of wear w/ scattered light scratches & marks & pinprick spotting. As noted in accompanying letter from George Madis, special order stoc...morek dimensions are very rarely found on Winchester rifles. Lyman Express bead front, standard sporting rear w/ a Lyman tang peep sight having the correct code "N" stamped under the base. Full length mag. Blue finish w/ case colored action & forend cap. Single set trigger. Forend & pistol grip stock of XXX fancy black walnut. Features include style "H" factory checkering, ebony grip insert & hard rubber shotgun buttplate. The special order stock has an LOP of 14 1/2", one inch longer than standard. Special order stock dimensions are very rarely found on Winchester rifles. Left inside of lower tang is marked with assembly # "379" followed by "XXX" wood grade marking & "RB" for rubber buttplate. A matching "379" is found in the top tang channel. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: a George Madis hand written letter discussing the rare special features and originality of the rifle. Cody Firearms Records check stating: Type: Rifle / Caliber: 40/82 / Barrel type: Octagon / Trigger: Set / Checkered stock, Pistol grip / Received in warehouse on June 15, 1894 / Shipped from warehouse on June 15, 1894, Order number 13986." CONDITION: overall a very attractive original special order 1886 rifle. Bbl. & mag tube retain over 80% lightly faded original blue. Action shows 40%+ lightly faded factory case colors with scattered peppery oxidation appearing at bottom. Original wood finish is very good, showing some wear spots, scattered scratches & marks. Right side of forend has a short tight grain crack from the highly figured wood approx 1/4" in length. Front sight base shows distortion on right side from improper sight adjustment. Sound action & set trigger. Bore has a slightly frosted appearance retaining strong rifling. (o1-25862/DS). ANTIQUE. $12,000-18,000.

ACTION RIFLE WITH CODY LETTER. Cal. 40-65. S# 9155. Bbl. 26". Model 1886 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1887. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked "-MANUFAC...moreTURED BY THE-/ -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-", with the cal. designation stamped at the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked with the model designation, with the lower tang being stamped with patent information. Metal components exhibit a blue finish. Plain American walnut straight grip buttstock with crescent buttplate and smooth wood handguard. Buttstock and handguard have been revarnished at one time. Front sight has been replaced with a Lyman blade front sight (bead no longer present), with an unmarked aftermarket V-notch rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter indicating that this example was received in the warehouse on October 6th of 1887 and was shipped with 54 other arms (Order Number: 24405) that same day. CONDITION: receiver, lever, buttplate, and forend cap exhibiting a mottled gray patina, with scattered areas of light to moderate pitting present overall. Bbl. and mag. tube exhibit wear and thinning overall, with areas of wear showing through to a pleasant brown patina. Bright bore, exhibiting moderate pitting and retaining good rifling throughout. Wood furniture exhibits scattered marks, dings, and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-25218/MLW). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.

Cal. 25-20. S# 383682. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1892 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1907. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. and patent ...moreinformation, with the cal. designation marked at the breech. Metal components exhibit traces of an older reapplied blue finish. Plain wood straight grip buttstock and forend have been sanded and revarnished at one time. Buttstock incurred a grievous break at one time, exhibiting an old repair at and around the wrist. Blade front sight, with period custom made ghost ring rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain fair amounts of their reapplied blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a brown patina, with scattered spots of age related discoloration and pitting present overall. Dark pitted bore, exhibiting good to strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the buttstock exhibiting what appears to be white paint on the left side. (24-2746/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
