The print series First Pass, Defenders over Washington and Ground Zero, Eagles on Station were commissioned by the USAF. The goal of the work was to recreate the scenes over Washington D.C. and the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 from the perspective of the first Air Force fighter crews to be scrambled that morning. First Pass (#643/1250) was signed by Mission Commander, Capt. Dean Eckmann, Wingman Major Brad Derrig and Capt. Craig Borgstrom - the first pilots on the scene over the D.C. area. Ground Zero (#149/1250) was signed by Lt Col Tim Duffy and wingman Major Dan Nash, who flew over the Twin Towers just moments after it had been hit. The prints are also signed by artist Rick Herter who was selected from 100 artists for this print program. This is a powerful and emotional set.

Antique Squash Blossom Necklace & Earrings

This antique squash blossom set was generously donated by John and Alice Taylor RMEF Life Members and Nampa, Idaho Chapter Committee Members. The beautiful solid sterling silver and turquoise squash blossom necklace and earrings were made in the 1950s and given to Charlotte Eldridge, from Phoenix, Arizona. Charlotte was a prominent television star and champion of Native American rights. The squash blossom necklace is said to have design influence all the way back to the 1500-1600s and the Spanish Conquistidors, but most of the design can be recognized within the last 150 years. The style portrays the close interaction between the Pueblo and Navajo Indians since the mid-1800s. The necklace design itself is said to be Navajo, adopted by the Zuni; yet the incorporation of turquoise on each of the blossoms is said to be the Zuni's influence later adopted by the Navajo.

The Easy Rider Metal Saddle Sculpture By Bohl Iron

Bohl Iron Works is made up of three artists: Dave Bohl, Brad Bohl, and Corey Bohl. They have been sculpting and designing with metal for several years. All natives of North Dakota, the Bohl's love wildlife, the outdoors and one of their specialties – sculpting wildlife out of metal. Each of their unique original pieces is created entirely out of steel, using wire-welded construction. Back by popular demand is another metal sculpture saddle called The Easy Rider. Griz Costume & Original Painting

Longtime elk camp legend Ferrin 'Griz' Dodson died of cancer February 3rd this year, and his presence and charisma will be deeply missed. Griz was famous for his good humor and for the wild frontiersman outfit he wore the first few days of convention each year. But, just as everyone would get used to his getup, along came Grand Banquet and our own mountain man would become 'Dapper Dan' as Griz doned a tux. Griz's family has generously donated his infamous costume displayed in a wonderful shadowbox. They also commissioned artist W. Downey Dyer, of Santa Cruz, California, to paint his portrait. This original oil painting will accompany Griz's costume. At the buyer's discretion, the costume and painting will be on display at the RMEF new headquarters visitors center, for one year, once the new building is completed. Griz, it's just not the same without you.

This year, Joanne as donated another one to the convention auction! Joanne's talent was apparent and acknowledged since very early in her childhood. Her technique has earned her the praises of artists and laymen alike, as Joanne does not use brushes. Her lifelike portraits of people and wildlife subjects are painted utilizing her fingers as her only tools. She creates her works in soft pastels, which are pure color pigments. Joanne's list of accomplishments and awards is very long and promises to become even longer in the future.

Here's something new at convention! Dale Alt has constructing a fabulous set of bunk beds for RMEF. Beautiful burled pine logs make up a queen bottom with the extra long twin top. The extra long twin top takes regular twin sheets. The beautiful, natural color is protected with clear polyurethane. The bed has ladders attached to both ends. Dale has been woodworking for more than 20 years constructing high-quality furniture along with custom handrails and deck rails. Most of his work is done by commission so Dale can custom build any furniture to match your dream.

Randy Van Beek began painting fulltime in 1980. Randy's interest was always in traditional realism, and he sought out his own education. Most of his attention was focused on the eighteenth century Dutch and Austrian masters, and the nineteenth century American painters, particularly the Hudson River School group. His work has evolved into a unique style truly his own, but the influence of the traditional masters is evident. Randy's subjects range from rural landscapes to wilderness and wildlife. Randy has received many awards and three art magazines have featured him in their artist profile editorials. Randy was named the RMEF 2001 Featured Artist for his painting, Twin Sisters Royalty. Randy has contributed more than $75,000 to the Elk Foundation's Business Partners in Conservation program.
