Fragrant Chinese Oud Agarwood Carving - 2.7 lbs

Fragrant and dark colored wood elegantly carved in a solid form with the agar wood base separately. The scene carved to all sides features a scenic background and scholarly figures or wise men with numerous additional figures. Additional names and grades are often called aloeswood / eaglewood / gharuwood / oud / Oudh. Oud / agarwood forms in the heartwood of Aquilaria tree once they become infected with a particular type of parasitic mold. The samplings are used in the production of the finest fragrances in the world.. Condition: Excellent condition without any signs of obvious wear, damage, or splitting. Casa Aragon has been producing fine blades in Mexico since 1750. Their workshop originally based in Ejutla de Crespo started moving to Oaxaca around 1905 making this example from the old workshop extremely rare as one of the last machete sword produced from the original location. Hermenegildo famous for his unique method of tempering steel so well it could be bent into a circle without breaking. Size 34" L, blade 29" L. Provenance: Ex-Arizona Collection, Ex-Texas Collection
Important Mexican "Armeria Americana" Sword, Circa 1883-1918

Armeria Americana Mexico (founded 1867) owned and operated by Arsene Combaluzier born in Ardeche, France 1840. Arsene during French Intervention of 1862-1867 had been enlisted with the Castagny Brigade of the French Expeditionary Force in Veracruz. During the conflict Mexican General Porfirio Diaz was captured and taken prisoner under the supervision of Arsene Combaluzier. Having sympathized with General Diaz and the Mexican cause for justice he helped General Diaz escape prison. Altering the course of Mexican History. General Diaz would later become president of Mexico in 1876. As a reward for the actions of Arsene he was granted by President Diaz Mexican Citizenship and the sole exclusive ability to import arms into Mexico..
