American Enameled and Nickel Salesman Sample Stove by Qualified Range Co. 700/1000

21" (53 cm.) The steel-framed stove with blue enameled finish rests on curved apron base with four nickel-plated legs, cast iron range top with six burners on three separate plates, nickel-plated brackets support a blue enamel back with rolled-lid warming oven. The large oven door has nickel-plated frame, faux-temperature scale, bracket handle, and hinges open to a blue enamel-lined interior with single shelf. There is a nickel-plated coal door, working grate, damper, ash door with blue enamel drawer, side working grate door and chimney hole hidden behind the back wall. Firm paper mache head with rich brown complexion, sculpted very curly black hair, brown glass inset eyes in deeply defined sockets, thick dark eyeliner, slightly modeled black brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with generous smile, shaded lips, row of teeth, defined chin, cheeks dimples, the head constructed as one piece with Jumeau brown composition torso, and matching composition and wooden limbs articulated at hips, knees, shoulders, elbows and wrists, wearing antique silk jester costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: mystery maker, probably SFBJ being one of the missing 200 character series, as the doll has a strong resemblance to several of the SFBJ models, and has characteristic body. It is possible, but not known, that the striking doll was created as an exhibition model. Very Rare Original French "Ombrella Folie," by Germain Lombart 2500/3500

Lot # 333 (Sale Order: 35 of 144)      

19" (48 cm.) A fancily carved, wooden-handled, eight-sided parasol with mauve silk and Alencol lace cover has an unusual tip, being a bisque poupee head with blue enamel eyes, painted features, closed mouth, original elaborate mohair curled wig, pierced ears, carton torso, wire upper arms, bisque hands. The poupee is costumed in mauve silk to match the parasol which forms the doll's skirt, and there is a rose sateen pleated fan attached to each sleeve which is designed to flare open when the doll raises and lowers her arms. Condition: generally excellent, some distress to silk skirt. Comments: the "Ombrella Folie" was deposed by Germain Lombart in 1874, as a luxury "nouveautes" of the era; the patent design and a history of the firm are in The Encyclopedia of French Dolls by Theimer, page 373. Value Points: the imaginatively designed and intricate luxury favor is very rare to find, especially with the "fan" detail, and in original state of presentation....more

Standing upon drum-shaped platform with wooden feet, lithographed image of young lad courting a girl over a garden fence, and lithographed cover overall, is a bisque-headed doll with silk costume, holding wooden rod, and a paper mache box from which is protruding the paper mache head of Pierrot. When handwound at the side, the drum beats rat-a-tat-tat, while the little boy moves his arm, tapping Pierrot on the head, and Pierrot pops up and down from his box. Condition: good, some paper wear (visible in photo), and split in drum snare paper on opposite side. Comments: French, circa 1890.
