1958 Heinkel Tourist 103 A1

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 27 of 85)

The Tourist was sold as an upscale scooter. It was more expensive than a Vespa or a Lambretta, and was generally heavier, more comfortable, and more stable. It was availa...moreble with a speedometer, a steering lock, a clock, a luggage carrier, and a spare wheel. It was referred to in England as "The Rolls-Royce of Scooters"[3] and was advertised by a dealer in Massachusetts as "The Cadillac of Scooters". The Tourist had a tubular steel frame to which pressed steel body panels were mounted. The engine of the Tourist was mounted in the frame and drove the rear wheel by a chain enclosed in the swingarm. Thus sheltered, the chain ran in a sealed oil bath, extending its life and preventing any oil from contacting either scooter or rider. The engines used in Heinkel Tourists were 4-stroke while most other scooters of the time, including the Heinkel 150 light scooter from the 1960s, had 2-stroke engines.[citation needed] This Heinkel Tourist is in great original condition.

Owner will be on-site at Auction....more Originally built/Assembled in Baltimore Md 1967-1968, Vehicle was transported to a dealer in New Hampshire from factory in 1968. Owner returned from a six-month trip (Merchant Marine) to India in May of ‘......68. Owner was unable to order a GTO as it was too late in the model year. Owner made that purchase and signed the papers in June in 1968 and has owned it ever since. In the winter of 1968-69 the owner drove the car to NY/NJ and stored in in a Garage named “......A-1 Garage Storage, Hoboken, NJ”......, where a lot of the guys stored their vehicles while shipping out for service(Merchant Marine). Union Hall was nearby as well. Owner flew to West Coast to catch a ship, the SS Exmouth and carried ammunition to VM for 5-6 months. The owner returned in March 1969 to retrieve his GTO. Married in August 1970 in Portland, ME, the owner unfortunately did not make arrangements for a room that night and ended up waking up one of his ushers to use his motel room and offered his GTO for them to sleep in. The owner has meticulously maintained and cared for this car. The car has been as far north as Montreal, and far south as NY/NJ since owned and pretty much all-over New England since. The car has new tires and was upgrades with a new electronic ignition system. 6V electrical system. The Ford Deluxe and Super Deluxe were a series of full-size cars introduced for the 1941 model year. This new series of full size Fords, along with their entry level 'Special' variants, was offered in a wide range of body styles, such as sedan, coupe, convertible, sedan delivery, and station wagon. Whereas previous generations of full-size Fords had been offered exclusively with V8 engines, the Deluxe & Super Deluxe family saw the addition of a more economical 3.7L inline six unit alongside the established 3.6L and 3.9L V8 engines. Due to WW2, production was halted early in 1942. After the war, production resumed for 1946 with a mechanically identical model to 1942's offerings. The most notable post-war variant was the Ford Sportsman, a limited production wood panelled convertible. Ford built the Deluxe & Super Deluxe series of cars until 1948, when they introduced their new line, headed by the Ford Custom Deluxe.

Ford Motor Company produced 972,812 units in 1936, second only to Chevrolet. 1936 also marked the year in which Ford manufactured its twenty millionth vehicle and its three millionth V-8 engine. The Deluxe model featured an 85 horsepower, 221 cubic-inch V-8 with a three-speed manual transmission. This was Ford's first V-8 engine to have replaceable main bearings. The engines were manufactured concurrently with poured main bearing engines through the end of 1936. This vehicle has an optional in dash electric clock and spider hub caps. It also features an optional rumble seat. Unique to 1936 is the method of access to the rumble seat. The front seat hinge lifts up and the passenger climbs through.
