German WW2 1942 Demyansk Shield Award with Certificate named Custom Matted and Framed

Lot # 1560 (Sale Order: 225 of 304)

An original 1942 Demyansk Shield Award and its official Award Certificate, issued to Unteroffizier Georg Lange of the 5./Grenadier Regiment 376. The shield, designed to be worn on the uniform’s sleeve, prominently displays a Wehrmacht eagle with a swastika, crossed swords beneath "1942". The award was instituted on April 25, 1943, by Adolf Hilter to honor those who endured the siege and fought under extreme conditions. The accompanying award certificate, printed on official parchment paper, is dated April 1, 1944, and is signed by a commanding officer, bearing official Third Reich insignia, marking it as an authentic military commendation.

The Demyansk Shield, instituted on April 25, 1943, was awarded to German soldiers who served in the brutal Demyansk Pocket Siege on the Eastern Front from February to May 1942. This siege was one of the most intense battles on the Eastern Front, where German forces were encircled by Soviet troops and had to rely on Luftwaffe air supply efforts to hold their position. These shields were often reserved for those who served at least 60 days in combat or who were wounded during the operation.

This matted and framed set represents the harsh conditions and strategic significance of the Demyansk Pocket defense. It is a highly collectible and historically valuable award from one of WWII’s most intense Eastern Front battles, reflecting the bravery and endurance of the soldiers who fought there.

Dimensions: Approx. Framed 19.75" W x 16.75" H 4.6 lbs
