Vintage 1923 Cardboard Trolley Sign - Hills Bros. Coffee

Lot # 160 (Sale Order: 159 of 334)

This is an early cardboard trolley sign that was used to line the sides of a trolley as a way to advertise a particular product - in this instance, Hills Bros. Coffee. These signs were made of cardboard because that made the signs easier to slide into a curved track to be displayed. As well, these signs were changed quite often, so the cardboard allowed that to be an easier task. When trolleys were eventually replaced by buses, they kept the same concept, only the bus signs were larger (11" x 28"). Sign is in very good condition with some slight discoloration around the edges. Measures 11" x 21."
