Antique Plains Beaded Knife Sheath with Old Trade/Skinning Knife

This is an antique beaded knife sheath with old trade/skinning knife. The sheath is a Plains piece, with crosses and other geometric designs. It is fully beaded on one side with green, yellow and red beads and is sinew sewn. It dates back to the early 1900s or even the late 1800s. It also includes a period correct skinning knife.

APPROX AGE: Circa late 1800s - early 1900s.
SIZE: Sheath measures 2-3/4 inches wide X 9 inches long. Knife measures 4-5/8 inch blade, overall length is 8-1/2 inches.

Late 1800s Plateau Beaded Pipe Bag

This is a great old beaded pipe bag. It is circa the late 1800s from the Plateau region, possibly Blackfoot. It is sinew sewn and the leather was dyed with yellow ocher in the non-beaded areas. It remains fairly supple for its age and displays nicely.

Antique Crow/Plains Large Size Beaded Belt Knife Sheath

A large size Crow beaded belt knife sheath decorated with tacks. It is sinew sewn with dyed horsehair accented jingle cones on it. The front panel still shows some of the red ocher dye. It also includes an old hand forged knife that is fairly period correct.

SIZE: Sheath measures 5 inches wide X 16 inches long. Knife blade is 11-1/2 inches long. Overall length is 17 inches.

Antique Pipe Tomahawk Circa Early 1800s

Here is a true antique pipe tomahawk made circa the early 1800s. This is a hand forged pipe tomahawk with original wood stem. Long used as a gift of diplomacy by government officials, the pipe tomahawk was a favorite gift to bestow upon important Native American leaders during times of settlement. Although not as decorative as the "re-pops" these truly older ones are a hard find and much more valuable! It also includes the stand pictured.

Catlinite Pipe and Stand by Fortunate Eagle, Quilled Stem Is Circa 1950s Sioux

Lot # 36 (Sale Order: 30 of 336)      

Here is an awesome piece! The catlinite pipe and stand were made by Adam Fortunate Eagle, a well-known artist. The quilled stem was purchased by the previous owner separately and it is Sioux, circa mid century. It has a beautiful red and white quill work done with red dyed horsehair accents. Included with this wonderful display are some correspondence between the former owner and Fortunate Eagle talking about this piece (and also another pipe).
MAKER: Pipe bowl and stand are by Adam "Fortunate Eagle" Nordwall (who goes by Fortunate Eagle) - a well known artist. He signed the edge of the pipe rim. The quilled stem is unmarked, but attributed to being a vintage Sioux piece.
APPROX AGE: Circa early 2000s on the stand and bowl and circa 1950s on the stem.
SIZE: 4 inches wide X 29-1/4 inches long overall.

Unique Huron Pipe Bowl C. 1850s - with Modern Stem and Stand

Here is an old and unique Huron pipe bowl circa 1850s, with a modern stem and stand. The catlinite pipe bowl represents the shape of a hand holding a bowl. The design of the bowl is attributed to being a Huron. The stem is more modern with a twisted design and tacked accents. It was made to compliment the bowl. The stem and display stand were made by "Fortunate Eagle," a well-known artist. He specifically made the stem to compliment the bowl in a style that would have been period correct. There are correspondence between him and the former owner talking about this piece (and another pipe also).
MAKER: The pipe is attributed as being Huron. The display stand and pipe stem were made by Adam "Fortunate Eagle" Nordwall (who goes by Fortunate Eagle). A well-known artist.
APPROX AGE: Circa 1850s for the pipe bowl and early 2000s on the stem and display.

Circa Early 1900s Sioux Handmade Beaded Doll With Stand

This is an antique Sioux handmade doll with nicely detailed bead work. The doll appears to be brain tanned leather and uses a combination of cotton thread and sinew. Due to the techniques used and the beads, we believe the date it was made to be the early 1900s to 1920s. It comes with the custom doll stand pictured.

Antique Beaded Skull Knocker with Horsehair Drop

Lot # 44 (Sale Order: 35 of 336)      

This beaded "skull cracker" has a wood shaft covered in rawhide (parfleche) which is sinew sewn. It is then decorated with beads and a horsehair drop or tassel on the end of the handle. The "business" end is a stone wrapped in the same parfleche and decorated with beads. The handle was also dyed with yellow ocher, much of which still remains.
MAKER: Unknown, but attributed as being Plains.
APPROX AGE: Antique, circa early 1900s.
SIZE: 2 inches wide X 31 inches long including the horse hair tassel.

Antique Plains Beaded Blanket Strip

This is a late 1800s to early 1900s Plains beaded blanket strip. It has beautiful floral and other designs in the detailed bead work. It is about 5 ft. long and has four "medallions" along the length. It is sinew sewn and backed with old cloth from the period. Blanket strips such as this originated on the Northern Plains during the 1800s and older examples are very collectible.

A Rare Original Navajo Chief's Blanket Made From Germantown Wool - Circa 1890s

A rare Navajo Chief's blanket made from Germantown wool. This very fine and clean, 3rd phase Chief's blanket was made approx. the 1890s! It features the traditional classic striped designs, accented with triangular blocks indicative of a 3rd phase style. We'll say it again, this is a very finely woven blanket and it is very clean as far as condition goes!

Rare 2nd Phase Navajo Chief's Blanket - Circa 1850 to 1870

A rare original Navajo Chief's blanket from approx. 150 years ago! This wonderful blanket is a second phase Chief's blanket. It features the traditional striped designs which are accented with rectangular blocks. The colors are a white background with dark brown stripes with indigo blue and red accents. The red has faded a bit with age, while the other colors remain strong.
MAKER: An unknown Navajo weaver.
APPROX. AGE: Circa 1850 to 1870. SIZE: Measures approx. 50 inches wide X 57 inches long.

A Rare Chance For A Navajo Chief's Blanket - Circa Early 1900s

An original Navajo Chief's blanket from the early 1900s. This wonderful blanket features the traditional 3rd Phase style of striped designs which are accented with nine triangular blocks. The colors are a white background with dark brown stripes and blue and red accents. This is a nicely woven blanket with hand spun and hand dyed wool. The colors have faded a bit with age and there is slight damage, but overall it's a nice example.
MAKE: An unknown Navajo weaver.
APPROX. AGE: Circa early 1900s.

A really nice older Navajo handmade textile using hand spun, hand dyed and natural wools. This rug has beautiful colors to go with many decors, and in each corner is a stylistic Valero star. This is a fine woven rug and although it was obviously a floor rug in the past, it remains in nice condition for its age with normal wear and fading expected.

This is a big and beautiful Navajo textile (rug) that has a large diamond pattern in the center with lighting bolt and water (wave) patterns around the edges. It has a nice look to it! The wool was hand spun and dyed and it is a collectible vintage textile.

This is an antique Catlinite pipe with wood stem which is decorated with leather and old trade cloth fringe and ermine fur.

Antique Plains Beaded Skull Cracker

This beaded "skull cracker" features a wood shaft and stone, both of which are covered in leather and then with bead work and the shaft is also decorated with trade cloth tassels. This piece is sinew sewn and dates to the early 1900s. It is covered with a large amount of beads in a decorative pattern.

Amazing Romal Show Reins and Hobbles by Luis Ortega

Lot # 59 (Sale Order: 49 of 336)      

For your consideration is an amazing set of Romal Reins and matching hobbles. These were owned and used by Judy Wright, a well known horse show judge, trainer and contestant (among others, she showed horses for Evil Knievel). This hand-braided set of reins and hobbles is attributed to the well-known master, Luis Ortega! This is classic Ortega work, and if you look on P. 52 and 88 of the book titled, Luis Ortega's Rawhide Artistry, you can see examples of his work in dark kangaroo leather that very closely resembles these reins. Also, if you look on P. 84 of the same book, you will see a set of hobbles very similar to these. Furthermore, there is verbal history from Judy to our seller (who purchased these directly from her) stating they are Ortega's work. They would make a great addition to any Western Americana collector's inventory.

APPROX AGE: Vintage.
SIZE: Reins measure about 8-1/2 feet long and the hobbles measure about 15 inches long.

An Amazing 4-Strand Handmade Rawhide Reata by Luis Ortega

This is an amazing addition to any Western Americana collector's inventory. This hand-braided Rawhide Reata is by the well-known master, Luis Ortega! It is a 4-strand braid and is approx. 45 ft long. It is signed (carved) LB Ortega on the Hondo which also has red and dark brown interweaved into it. It also has (carved) on the other side of the Hondo the individual's name whom Luis originally made the reata for. This is classic Ortega work and it has never been used, only displayed.
