1918 WWI U.S. Eddystone, M1917 Enfield, 30-06 Sprg., Bolt-Action, SN - 546103

Lot # 225

The M1917 Enfield, or "American Enfield", is an American modification and production of the British Pattern 1914 Enfield (P14) rifle (listed in British Service as Rifle N...moreo. 3), which was developed and manufactured during the period 1917–1918. When the British Empire entered World War I, it had an urgent need for rifles and contracts were placed with companies in the United States. In the case of the P14 rifle, Winchester and Remington were selected. When the U.S. entered the war, it had a similar extreme need for rifles. Rather than re-tool completely, the factories, under the close supervision of the US Army Ordnance Department, altered the P14 design for the 30-06 caliber. Winchester produced the rifle at their New Haven, Connecticut, plant and Remington at their main facility at Ilion, New York, and at another plant in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. Numerically, it was the main rifle used by the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I. This new rifle was formally adopted as the new standard U.S. Service rifle and named the Model of 1917. It was manufactured by: Eddystone (1,181,908 rifles), Remington (545,541 rifles) and Winchester (465,980 rifles). Design changes were few; the stripper clip feed, internal box magazine, bolt face, chamber and rifling dimensions were altered to suit the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and the US pattern 5-round stripper clips. The stock was slightly redesigned, lightening it somewhat, and the volley fire sights on the left side of the weapon were deleted. The markings were changed to reflect the model and caliber change. The M1917 was used alongside the M1903 Springfield, and quickly surpassed the Springfield design in numbers produced and units issued. By November 11, 1918, about 75% of the AEF in France were armed with M1917s. An M1917 Enfield rifle was used by Sergeant Alvin C. York on October 8, 1918, during the event for which he was famously awarded the Medal of Honor. This Eddystone M1917 reflects a 1918 production date (SN - 564103). Markings include: Barrel - "E" with U.S. Flaming Bomb ordnance stamp over "12-18"; Top Receiver - "U.S. MODEL OF 1917 EDDYSTONE"; Left Side Of Receiver - Flaming Bob acceptance stamp; Top Of The Receiver - Eagle Head acceptance stamp; Bolt Handle - "W" "SN" & Flaming Bomb; along with several other period correct U.S. acceptance stamps. This U.S. M1917 features a 26" barrel, rear receiver folding ladder aperture sight with ears, wing-protected front post sight "075", metal buttplate with cleaning tool compartment, full military stock with grooved forearm, sling rings, bayonet lug and brown leather sling marked "HOYT 1917". This gun is in good condition with some battle wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

1977 Ruger, New Model Super Blackhawk, 44 Magnum, Revolver (W/ Box & Receipt), SN - 82-02386

Lot # 232

The Ruger Blackhawk is a six-shot, single-action revolver that was introduced in 1955. The Super Blackhawk (chambered for magnum loads) was introduced in 1959. The early ...moreBlackhawk models (pre-1974) still operated the same way as the Colt SAA in that the hammer was half cocked to load and unload, and that the firearm was not safe to carry with all six chambers loaded due to the hammer resting upon the sixth chamber. In 1973, in order to eliminate accidents occurring from the hammer jarring against a round loaded in the sixth chamber, Ruger introduced the "New Model" Blackhawk. The New Model Blackhawk did not require the hammer to be half cocked for loading and unloading, and it employed a transfer bar mechanism which prevented the cartridge under the hammer from being fired without the trigger being pulled. All Super Blackhawks, new & early styles, are capable of operating with much higher pressure handloads than factory produced ammunition in .44 Magnum. It is one of the top choices for handgun hunting and is capable of reliably taking down deer, elk, caribou, moose, lion, grizzly or brown bear and even cape buffalo. It combines the reliability and simplicity of a revolver with the energy of the famous magnum cartridge. This New Model Super Blackhawk (with transfer bar) was made in 1977, and sports a 7.5" barrel, adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel, Patridge front sight, blued frame & cylinder, smooth walnut grips with Ruger medallion inlay and grooved hammer. This one-owner gun was purchased from Dehner Seed And Supply Co. on 6/10/1977, and comes with original box and purchase receipt. This gun is in nice condition with no wear to speak of, has a sharp/ bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). 1943 U.S. Remington, Sporterized 1903-A3, 30-06 Sprg., Bolt-Action, SN - 4134404

Lot # 233

Few arms have served the U.S. military as long or as well as the famed "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model 1903." For generations of American servicemen and arms enthusiasts,...more the M1903 has gained an enviable reputation as one of the best bolt-action military rifles of all time. The M1903 was manufactured by Springfield Armory at varying levels of production from 1903 until the late 1930s, and at Rock Island Arsenal from 1903 until 1913, and again from 1917 until 1919. Even though large numbers of M1917 "American Enfields" were manufactured and issued during World War I to supplement the supply of M1903s, the "Springfield 1903" remained a standard issue rifle throughout WWII, alongside the M1 Garand. World War II saw new production of the Springfield M1903 at private manufacturers such as the Remington Arms and Smith-Corona Typewriter companies. Remington began production of the M1903 in September 1941, at serial number 3,000,000, using old tooling from the Rock Island Arsenal. As the already worn tooling began to wear beyond use, Remington began seeking Army approval for a continuously increasing number of changes and simplifications to both speed up manufacture and improve performance. This resulted in the replacement of the M1903 in favor of the M1903-A3 in 1942. A "Sporterized" firearm is simply a custom modified military-issue arm that has been updated with new features to make it more suitable for civilian sporting use. The majority of "Sporterized Rifles" are WWI & WWII GI bring backs. This was common practice in the 1950s & 60s and is still being done today. The most common modifications are sporting stocks with better grips, re-chambering or new barrels, updated sights, better optics (scopes) and various accessories. This "Sporterized" U.S. Remington M1903-A3 reflects a 1943 production date (SN - 4134404) and sports an outline checkered Monte Carlo stock with raised cheek/ fluted comb & oiled finish, black grip cap with white spacer, ribbed Fajen buttpad with white spacer, 22" barrel with high luster bluing, Williams fully adjustable micrometer rear receiver peep sight, ramped dovetail front sight with hooded dome, and stainless bolt & handle. This gun is in nice condition with very light wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). 1982 Ruger, Old Army - Stainless, 44 Cal., Percussion Revolver (W/ Box), SN - 145-14698

Lot # 234

The Ruger Old Army is a black-powder percussion revolver that was made from 1972 - 2008. It was not based on a historical design but was a modification of Ruger's Blackha...morewk model which was itself based upon the cartridge-firing Colt Peacemaker. The Old Army revolver accordingly incorporates many modern design features, though employing antiquated black-powder component loading. The design was built around the Blackhawk, but it takes its styling cues from the Remington Model 1858 cap and ball pistol. This is due to the frame being longer in front to accommodate the loading lever and pivot pin. Unlike the Blackhawk, the Old Army did not make use of Ruger's transfer bar safety; instead the revolver relied upon a series of safety notches between each chamber on the cylinder like some models of the Remington/Colt or other black powder revolvers of the mid-19th century had. The revolver was tested by loading each chamber to capacity with Bullseye smokeless powder and a lead ball. While this might result in catastrophic failure in other firearms, the Old Army proved to be strong enough to handle the pressure. This Old Army was made in 1982, and features a 7.5" barrel, full stainless finish, smooth walnut grips with silver Ruger logo medallions, adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel and pinned Patridge front sight. This gun is in nice condition with no wear to speak of, has a sharp/ bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). Lot # 235

The Winchester Model 61 is a slide-action .22 caliber rimfire rifle produced from 1932 to 1963. Winchester's first hammerless slide-action rifle design, the Model 61 acte...mored as a "replacement" for the Model 62, and all were equipped with a quick take-down crew. The Model 61 was advertised alongside the Model's 12 & 42, as a companion rifle, in Winchester's Premium Grade line up. Standard Model 61s were chambered for 22 Short, Long and Long Rifle, interchangeably — but it could also be ordered with the smoothbore barrel for 22 shotshell which was popular among exhibition shooters of the time. This Model 61 was made in 1954, and sports the desirable factory 24" full smoothbore (not a Rutledge counterbore) for .22 LR Shotshells. Other features include a smooth pistol grip walnut stock with ribbed forearm, checkered metal buttpad, silver bead front sight, stainless magazine tube and grooved receiver top. This gun is in beautiful condition with very light wear, has an excellent shiny smooth bore and appears to be in good working order.... Lot # 236

The Ruger Blackhawk is a six-shot, single-action revolver introduced in 1955 when westerns were popular in movies and television. Lot # 241

The Browning Double Automatic Shotgun "Twelvette" was produced from 1955 to 1971. These guns were, and are, the enigma of the shotgun realm and certainly one of the grand...moreest autoloaders to ever grace the field or range. It was the creation of Val Browning, John Moses Browning's son. In 1952 Val Browning received a patent for a “speed loading” mechanism he integrated into his new shotgun and started production of the radically designed Browning Double Auto. Since the barrel only moved about 1/2", it was christened a “short-recoil-action” shotgun. Eliminating the “double shuffle” effect of the A5, his new design considerably reduced the felt recoil of the 12-gauge cartridge. Another unique feature of the Double Auto is it has no magazine. The second round sits on the shell carrier and is visible in the open loading port on the left side of the receiver. The lack of a magazine does away with the fore end cap. This “sleeks” the appearance of the gun and until the currently produced Browning Maxus, the Double Auto was the only autoloading shotgun ever produced without a fore end cap. The Double Auto is the fastest shotgun to load in existence. When the bolt is locked to the rear, the gun is loaded by simply inserting a cartridge into the loading port. This automatically activates the shell holder and feeds the round into the chamber. A second round can then be placed in the port on the shell holder. For a right-handed shooter, this can be accomplished while holding the gun by the pistol grip. To drop the bolt on an empty chamber for storage, there is a carrier latch at the bottom front of the action that can be pushed forward to release the bolt. The gun also has a unique, ambidextrous safety. Early A5s had a sliding lever protruding down in front of the trigger located inside the trigger guard. While ambidextrous and quick, it was distinctly hazardous, particularly if the shooter was wearing gloves or just had thick fingers. Subsequent “improvements” to the A5 replaced the safety with a traditional cross-bolt button. Val improved upon his father’s design by placing a vertically sliding block behind the trigger, mounted on the backside of the trigger guard. The safety can be deactivated with either hand without requiring the trigger finger to be placed inside the trigger guard. The Double Auto was made in three versions. The initial model was manufactured with a steel receiver which is referred to as the “Standard” Model and was manufactured from 1952–1960. A “Lightweight” model was manufactured from 1952–1956 at which point it was re-christened and marked “Twelvette.” In 1957, an even lighter model, the “Twentyweight,” was introduced. The Twelvettes with aluminum receivers were offered in a variety of colors: Dragon Black, Autumn Brown, Velvet Gray and Forest Green while the Standard (Steel) model came in traditional blue. This Browning Double Automatic "Twelvette" "Dragon Black" was made in Belgium in 1962, and sports a black aluminum receiver with gold filled floral engravings & scroll accents, checkered walnut stock with fluted comb/ round "lightning" grip & gloss finish, gold trigger, 28" FULL barrel with serrated top, silver bead front sight, black hard rubber buttpad, 14.25" LOP and 2 3/4" chamber. This gun is in beautiful condition with no wear to speak of and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). All proceeds have been willed to the Divine Mercy Parish Church.

1973 Ruger, New-Model "Super" Single-Six, 22 LR & Mag., Revolver (W/ Box), SN - 62-17537

Lot # 242

The Ruger Single-Six is a six-shot, single-action rimfire revolver that was introduced in 1953 when westerns were popular in movies and television. Colt had discontinued ...morethe iconic Single Action Army prior to World War II, and few single-action revolvers were available to meet market demand for cowboy-style revolvers. The early models (pre-1974) still operated the same way as the Colt SAA in that the hammer was half cocked to load and unload, and that the firearm was not safe to carry with all six chambers loaded due to the hammer resting upon the sixth chamber. A transfer bar was added to all models in 1974. The term "Super Single-Six" refers to those models which have fully adjustable target sights. This Ruger New-Model "Super" Single-Six represents a production date of 1973 (with transfer bar), and comes with both 22 LR & 22 Magnum cylinders. Features include a full blued finish, 6.5" barrel, adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel, Patridge front sights and walnut grips with Ruger logo medallions. This gun is in nice condition with light box wear, has a sharp/ clean bore, appears to be in good working order and comes in original red box.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). All proceeds have been willed to the Divine Mercy Parish Church.
