1980s CBC, GR-8 (Nylon 66) "Black Beauty", 22 LR, Semi-Auto, SN - GR46937

Lot # 351

The Remington "Nylon Series" of .22 caliber rifles were one of the earliest mass-produced rifles to feature a stock made from a material other than wood. The DuPont Zytel...more 101 (Nylon) stock could operate without any added lubricants which was desirable in cold hunting situations. The Nylon 66 was the flagship model that was made from 1959 to 1989 in many different variations. The CBC Nylon rifle was manufactured in Brazil from the 1960s through the 1990s and was an almost exact copy of the Remington Nylon Model 66. Remington supplied some, if not all, of the machinery for CBC production. CBC models were mostly sold on the European market until the 1980s when imports to the U.S. started. This CBC GR-8 "Nylon 66" sports a 19.5" barrel, checkered "Black Beauty" stock with white diamond forearm, blued receiver/ barrel, wheel adjustable notch rear sight, front blade sight, grooved receiver top, black forearm tip with white spacer, black grip cap with white spacer and black ribbed buttpad with white spacer. T/C, Encore Pro Hunter, 209x50 (50 Cal.), Break-Action Muzzleloading Rifle, SN - PS23612

Lot # 352

The current popularity of break-action muzzleloading rifles is directly attributable to Thompson's Encore. Though many companies have done their best to ride on the coat ...moretails of the Encore success, they have all fallen a long way short of the mark. The beauty of the Encore is not that it is just a break-action at all; it is that is an extremely durable, well-made rifle from a reputable company. It is the robustness of the gun and overall build quality that makes the Encore a standout compared to the other break-actions which all too often just break. In the form of the Pro Hunter, Thompson has listened to their customers and given the Encore a significant face lift, employing innovations not seen on any other muzzleloader. This Pro Hunter 209x50 Magnum sports a 28" fluted stainless barrel, FlexTech recoil reducing stock, Weather Shield coating, patented ambidextrous swing hammer, Speed Breech XT, adjustable green fiber-optic rear sight and a Bushnell 1.5x-4.5x-32 scope. This gun is in nice condition with very light wear and appears to be in good working order.

1946 Mossberg, 44US(a) Target Trainer, 22 LR, Bolt-Action

Lot # 356

The Mossberg 44US Target Trainer was designed exclusively for the War Department and intended solely for the use of US Armed Forces. Initially, the first contract of 14,5...more00 rifles was made in early 1943 with the Lyman 57MS (Mossberg/Stevens) receiver sight and the plain S-122 front sight with globe. Harold Mossberg designed the new S-100 receiver sight which replaced the Lyman for the remainder of production (57,128 rifles) through March, 1945. After the war, Mossberg offered the Model 44US to the general public, from 1945 to 1949. These commercial rifles are identified by a lower case letter after the model stamping. Each letter, a through d, represented a change in the design: 44US(a) - 1945-46, 44US(b) - 1946-47, 44US(c) - 1947-48, 44US(d) - 1948-49. By the end of 1949 Mossberg had made so many changes to the 44US, there were few parts still interchangeable with the military trainer held in high esteem by veterans. It’s likely Mossberg thought they had taken the 44US as far as it could go, and it was time to get serious about target rifles. So in 1950, they unveiled the 144LS. The 44US(a) featured a R-103 bolt assembly, (using the R-104 bolt; R-113 right extractor and R-114 left extractor,) R-174 receiver, R-195 stock, S-100 receiver sight, S-101 front sight, square-end trigger guard, 7-round detachable box magazine, 25.25" barrel and an overall length of 42.5". This model 44US(a) is in good condition with some various light wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

1947 British ROF, No.5 MK1 "Jungle Carbine", 303 British, Bolt-Action, SN - Z8547

Lot # 358

The Rifle No. 5 Mk I was a derivative of the British Lee–Enfield No. 4 Mk I that was produced from March, 1944, to December, 1947. Following experience of jungle fighting...more in the Pacific War, the British came to the conclusion that a rifle shorter and lighter than the standard issue, bolt action .303 cal No. 4 rifle was required. It gained its common nickname of the "Jungle Carbine" in post-war colonial campaigns such as the Malayan emergency. The No. 5 was about 3.9" shorter and 2 lbs. lighter than the No. 4 from which it was derived. A number of "lightening cuts" were made to the receiver body and the barrel, the bolt knob drilled out, woodwork cut down to reduce weight and other new features like a flash suppressor and a rubber buttpad to help absorb the increased recoil and to prevent slippage on the shooter's clothing while aiming. The extra recoil energy was caused by adding the conical flash suppressor (muzzle shroud). The No. 5 iron sight line was also derived from the No. 4 marks and featured a rear receiver aperture battle sight calibrated for 300 yards with an additional ladder aperture sight that could be flipped up and was calibrated for 200–800 yards in 100 yard increments. Due to the large conical flash suppressor, the No 5 Mk I could only mount the No. 5 blade bayonet which was also designed to serve as a combat knife if needed. The rifle was first issued to British airborne forces in Norway towards the end of the Second World War (1944). Two factories were tasked with the production of the No. 5, the Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley, Liverpool (ROF), and Birmingham Small Arms (BSA-Shirley). This ROF No.5 MK1 "Jungle Carbine" is receiver dated "3/47" and features a 20.5" barrel with conical flash suppressor, semi-hooded front post sight, 10-round steel detachable box magazine, sling rings, green canvas sling, bayonet lug, S&K scope rail, Weaver scope rings and Tasco 4x32 fixed reticle nitrogen filled scope. This gun is in good condition on a matte black metal finish, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

1941 British Lithgow, Lee-Enfield SMLE MKIII*, 303 British, Bolt-Action, SN - 26252

Lot # 360

The Lee–Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine-fed repeating rifle that served as the main firearm of the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the fi...morerst half of the 20th century. The Lee–Enfield was the standard issue weapon to rifle companies of the British Army, colonial armies (such as India and parts of Africa), and other Commonwealth nations in both the First and Second World Wars. The best-known Lee–Enfield rifle, the SMLE Mk III, was introduced in 1907 (SMLE - Short Magazine Lee-Enfield). In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which was the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve and the long-range volley sights. The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. MKIII*s, with all or some of these features, can be found as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories as stocks of parts were depleted. The Lithgow Small Arms Factory, in Lithgow, Australia, manufactured the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mk III/ MKIII* from 1912 to 1953. This Lee–Enfield SMLE Mk III* was made by Lithgow Small Arms Factory and is dated "1941". This rifle also sports various stamps throughout which indicate factory updates & refurbishing to include "FTR" (Factory Thorough Repair - Fazerkerly). Features include a 25.25" barrel, short magazine, brass buttplate with cleaning rod compartment, adjustable folding tangent rear sight with ears, front post sight with ears, bayonet lug, sling rings and green canvas sling. This gun is in good condition with some battle wear, has a nice sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

Circa 1948 French MAS (St Etienne), Model 48 Trainer, 22 LR, Bolt-Action, SN - F6085

Lot # 362

When the French occupied the Mauser factory in April, 1945, they found all the tooling to produce .22 caliber rifles still in place and in good order (among other things)...more. The French military did not have a proper training rifle at the time, and they decided to have Mauser design and produce one. The result, adopted for production in August, 1945, was essentially a Mauser KKW action with the detachable magazine from the Mauser 410B and a rear-mounted aperture sight. About 10,500 of these Model 45 rifles were made at Mauser by June, 1946, when production was shut down in preparation for the demolition of most of the Mauser buildings. The tooling and parts for the rifle were relocated to the MAS factory at St Etienne, where production resumed and another approximately 30,000 were made. The MAS-45 would serve as a standard French training rifle until the 1970s, and remained in limited use afterwards. This Model 45 was made at the MAS factory at St Etienne, in circa 1948, and sports a 24" barrel with recessed muzzle crown, smooth hardwood stock with gloss finish, adjustable folding tangent rear sight, ramped front sight, metal buttplate with MAS logo & blued finish, 5-round detachable box magazine, serrated trigger guard, sling rings and black nylon sling. This gun has been re-blued and is in nice condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

1886 Spanish Remington, Model 1874 Short Rifle, 11.15x58R (.43 Spanish), Rolling Block, SN - 1217

Lot # 365

This Remington patent rolling block short rifle was manufactured under license from the Remington Arms Company by the Spanish government in 1886. The Model 1874 Spanish R...moreemington Short Rifle (Mosqueton Remington Mo. 1874) was much like the M1871 Infantry Rifle in that the stock extends nearly to the muzzle and a conventional cleaning rod is stowed beneath the forestock. Approximately 15,500 short rifles were produced in the Oviedo factory between 1874 and 1891. Spanish records indicate that in 1879 these short rifles were also issued to the military service corps (Brigada de Administration Military), after which some 700 were re-chambered for the M1879 Reformado cartridge and issued to the security corps where they served until the Spanish Civil War. The principal features in identifying re-chambering from 11.15x58R (.43 Spanish) to 11.4x58R Spanish Reformado is an "R" stamped on the top of the barrel at the chamber. This rifle appears to still retain the original .43 Spanish chambering, (no "R" stamps found) but there are no guarantees. Features include a 3/4 length military stock, ramped folding leaf rear sight, 27.95" barrel, Oviedo Factory Crown/ARO/ 1886 right side receiver stamp and right side stock cartouche with "1217". This gun is showing age & wear to include a cracked buttstock, but still retains an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). All proceeds have been willed to the Divine Mercy Parish Church.

The windage adjustment of the rear sight was also dispensed with, and the cocking piece was changed from a round knob to a serrated slab. MKIII*s, with all or some of these features, can be found as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories as stocks of parts were depleted. This Lee–Enfield is marked "ENFIELD/ 1917/ SMLE III*" along with various factory proof stamps throughout. Features include a 25.25" barrel, short magazine, brass buttplate with cleaning rod compartment, brass stock disc inlay, adjustable folding tangent rear sight with ears, front post sight with ears, bayonet lug and sling rings. This gun is showing some battle wear to include a stock crack near the magazine well, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.

1952 British - ROF Fazakerley, Lee–Enfield No.4 MK 2, 303 British, Bolt-Action - PF253805

Lot # 370

The Lee–Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine-fed repeating rifle that served as the main firearm of the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the fi...morerst half of the 20th century. The Lee–Enfield was the standard issue weapon to rifle companies of the British Army, colonial armies (such as India and parts of Africa), and other Commonwealth nations in both the First and Second World Wars. During the course of the Second World War, the No. 4 rifle was simplified for mass production with the creation of the No. 4 Mk I in 1942, with the bolt release catch replaced by a simpler notch on the bolt track of the rifle's receiver. In the years after the Second World War, the British produced the No. 4 Mk 2 rifle, a refined and improved No. 4 rifle with the trigger hung forward from the butt collar and not from the trigger guard, beech wood stocks with original design reinforcing strap and brass "gunmetal" buttplates. This Lee–Enfield No. 4 MK 2 was manufactured at the Royal Ordnance Factory in Fazakerley, in 1952, (receiver marked "9/52"), and sports the original arsenal rack numbers "23" & "153" on the stock. Features include a smooth hardwood stock & handguard, 25.25" barrel, short magazine, brass buttplate, cleaning kit stock compartment, adjustable folding aperture rear peep sight, semi-hooded front post sight, sling rings and bayonet lugs. This gun is numbers matching - receiver, stock, magazine & bolt handle. This gun is in nice condition with some battle wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.
