1895 Ludwig & Loewe, Argentine Mauser M1891, 7.65×53mm, Bolt-Action, SN - L5040

Lot # 384

The Belgian Model 1889 is a line of Mausers produced for several countries from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. It became known as the 1889 Belgian Mauser, 1891 A...morergentine Mauser, and 1890 Turkish Mauser. In 1886, the Argentine Small Arms Commission contacted Mauser to replace their Remington Rolling Block rifles with a 7.65×53mm Mauser. The result was the Model 1891 Argentine Mauser. It is a cock-on-close, striker-fired repeater, feeding from an internal five-shot, single-stack box magazine. Like its Belgian and Turkish predecessors, the Argentine 1891 uses a bolt with front-locking lugs, the distinctive Mauser “wing”-type safety selector, a one-piece wooden stock, and a wood upper handguard that is secured to the barrel by two segments of copper wire. Argentina purchased it in three different configurations: a full-length rifle, a Cavalry Carbine and an Engineer Carbine. All of the 1891 Argentine Mauser rifles and carbines were manufactured in Berlin first at Ludwig Loewe & Company, and after 1896 at Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken Aktien-Gesellschaft (DWM). The National Crest on the receiver of this rifle has been scrubbed, which is very common. This was done in the aftermath of the Chaco War of 1935 which pitted Bolivia and Paraguay against one another in a vicious albeit brief struggle for control of South America’s resource-rich Chaco Boreal. Argentina provided Paraguay with a large number of Model 1891 Mausers during the conflict in a move that jeopardized its relationship with Bolivia. The presence of unground national crests made it impossible to deny Argentina’s direct support for Paraguay, so after the war Argentina instituted a law requiring the removal of the national crest from any gun leaving the country. This Model 1891 was produced at Ludwig Loewe & Co. in 1895, and is visible numbers matching - receiver, barrel, stock magazine, bolt handle and cleaning rod. Features include a 29" barrel, adjustable folding tangent rear sight, front post sight, metal buttplate, bayonet lug and sling rings. This gun is in nice condition with some light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). All proceeds have been willed to the Divine Mercy Parish Church.

Lot # 397

Few arms have served the U.S. military as long or as well as the famed "U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model 1903." For generations of American servicemen and arms enthusiasts,...more the M1903 has gained an enviable reputation as one of the best bolt-action military rifles of all time. A "Sporterized" firearm is simply a custom modified military-issue arm that has been updated with new features to make it more suitable for civilian sporting use. The most common modifications are sporting stocks with better grips, re-chambering or new barrels, updated sights, better optics (scopes) and various accessories. This "Sporterized" U.S. Springfield M1903 represents a 1919 production date (SN - 1019954) and sports a walnut Monte Carlo stock with high comb/ raised cheek/ contoured forearm with flat-bottom & gloss finish, Bishop black checkered buttpad with white spacer, 22" barrel, and trigger shoe. This gun is in nice condition with very light wear, has a sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order.... This gun is from the Robert Orval Hellenthal Estate Collection (1927-2022). All proceeds have been willed to the Divine Mercy Parish Church.
