1893 Ludwig & Loewe, Argentine M1891 Cavalry Carbine, 7.65×53mm, Bolt-Action, SN - B4515

Lot # 403

The Belgian Model 1889 is a line of Mausers produced for several countries from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. It became known as the 1889 Belgian Mauser, 1891 A...morergentine Mauser, and 1890 Turkish Mauser. In 1886, the Argentine Small Arms Commission contacted Mauser to replace their Remington Rolling Block rifles with a 7.65×53mm Mauser. The result was the Model 1891 Argentine Mauser. It is a cock-on-close, striker-fired repeater, feeding from an internal five-shot, single-stack box magazine. Like its Belgian and Turkish predecessors, the Argentine 1891 uses a bolt with front-locking lugs, the distinctive Mauser “wing”-type safety selector, a one-piece wooden stock, and a wood upper handguard that is secured to the barrel by two segments of copper wire. Argentina purchased it in three different configurations: a full-length rifle, a Cavalry Carbine and an Engineer Carbine. All of the 1891 Argentine Mauser rifles and carbines were manufactured in Berlin first at Ludwig Loewe & Company, and after 1896 at Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken Aktien-Gesellschaft (DWM). The Model "1891 Cavalry Carbine", was a compact variant of the rifle and were issued to Cavalry Units. This Model 1891 Cavalry Carbine was made by Ludwig Loewe & Co. in 1893, and sports a full length smooth walnut stock with upper handguard & oiled finish, 17.6" barrel, adjustable folding tangent rear sight, front post sight with ears, metal buttplate and sling ring.
