This is one of 753 Model 1882 manufactured in 1884, designed by General J.N. Reese and R.S. Chaffee submitted to the Ordnance Board responsible for selecting the new magazine repeater. The rifle is loaded through the door on the butt and is fitted with a stacking swivel and sling swivel on the forward barrel band along with a sling swivel mounted on the front side of the trigger guard. There is a button tipped cleaning rod, two barrel bands, a fixed front sight that doubles as a bayonet lug and a sliding leaf adjustable rear sight graduated to 6 and marked "C-R" on the left. The barrel is marked on the left shoulder at the breech "V/P/eagles head", the receiver is marked "US-SPRINGFIELD.-1884". and the stock is cartouched on the left side and dated 1884 in a rectangle with a circle P on the underside of the wrist. The full length walnut stock shows only minor light handling. The bore appears like the factory being very shiny and having crisp rifling. The barrel retains almost all of the bluing showing almost no wear from handling. The barrel bands are each marked with a "U" and appear in the white while the receiver has a light and dark gray mottled patina as does the butt plate.

The rifle is fitted with a beautifully figured walnut Schutzen style butt stock with a hooked steel butt plate and a Schnabel style forend. The wood shows assorted light scattered handling and wear. The barrel is marked "H.M. POPE. HARTFORD, CONN" in a single line and the left side of the receiver is marked "J.M. MARLIN. NEW HAVEN. CON/BALLARD'S PATENT.NOV". Having double set triggers and a scope with an intact reticle the mount of which is marked Winchester. The bore shines very bright with nice rifling and the top of the barrel has two holes that are tapped, the first one is 9.5" from the muzzle. The bluing shows thinning to the finish mostly on the edges with some light freckling and scattered handling. The case colors on the receiver are present throughout though faint, showing some freckling and light surface scratches.

Wood surfaces show scattered handling and the metal appears to have a gray/brown/ blue mottled patina throughout with scattered tool marks and handling wear present. The bore shines showing some surface pitting and having a 2.5" chamber.

The 3 groove bore appears like factory with bright shine and sharp rifling, having a folding adjustable Lawrence rear sight and a fixed block & blade front. The top of the barrel is marked "NEW MODEL 1859" faint but present. The serial number range is that of a New Mod. 1863 and the left side of the walnut butt stock bears the conversion inspectors cartouche of "DFC" in a ribbon for David F. Clark principal sub-inspector. The smooth straight grip walnut butt stock shows off well having a crisp cartouche fitted with a steel butt plate that has a few pitting marks and little wear. The forend appears to be original unchanged at the time of conversion showing some small losses and scattered handling. The case coloring is strong and present throughout retaining a majority with all markings easily visible except the serial number which is present but faint in spots. The barrel bluing has started to patina to a medium brown with a faint but present model designation. Saddle ring and bar both present.

The top of the wooden chest is inlaid with a brass plate having a built in folding handle and is engraved "L Morris Waln/Philad a". The Waln family was a prominent Quaker Merchant in the milling business of the time and traded with England, the Eat & West Indies and later China. The cased set includes two percussion pistols both having checkered walnut stocks, engraved locks and hammers with sliding hammer safeties. Along with engraved trigger guards, barrel tangs and each with fixed sights. Smooth bores show some surface pitting and both have brass tipped ebony ramrods. Each barrel is engraved on the top flat "J. WILLIAMS LONDON". Pistols show some minor light handling with the left side of each barrel showing some pitting towards the muzzle. Complete with a powder flask, nipple tool, bullet mold, ramrod with two interchangable tips.

The same mark is located on the opposite side except for the "U.S." portion. The smooth walnut grips are slightly undersized with assorted tool marks present mostly on the left and underside. The serial number is present on the cylinder as well as on the grip frame under the grip in two locations. The right side of the muzzle shows thinning to the metal with the bore showing nice visible rifling and light surface pitting in spots. The remaining metal surfaces have a light and dark blue/gray mottled patina with some light surface pitting in areas and scattered light handling marks. Comes with a leather flap holster.

Manufactured in 1854 with traces of original factory finish still present in some areas most noticeable on the cylinder. Complete numbers matching revolver with a matching serial numbers present in part or whole on the barrel, barrel key, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, cylinder pin and loading lever. The revolver appears to function as it should with the cylinder being engraved with the standard stage coach scene showing thinning to the finish with almost no wear from handling. Nipples show no deformation and notch lines are crisp and unrounded. The barrel is fitted with a brass post front sight and a notch is integrated into the hammer. The barrel is also marked with a two line address. There are a few areas of very light surface pitting and tool marks most noticeable are located on the right side of the barrel and key. The bore shines bright with nice rifling present and some light surface pitting. The brass trigger guard and back strap show a few small areas of tool marks and the walnut smooth grip panels show only minor light scattered handling indentations.

The frame, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap all appear to be factory with the barrel, loading lever and barrel key appearing to be a later stamped or forced match as the font is different. The revolver appears to function as it should with a strong hammer spring. The barrel has a two line address with a small brass post front sight. The bore shines bright with nice rifling and visible surface pitting in a few areas. The standard stage coach engraved receiver is present and the grips are a smooth walnut showing some minor light scattered handling. Metal surfaces have a gray/brown mottled patina throughout showing a few areas of light surface pitting and tool/handling marks. The brass trigger guard and back strap show mostly light handling except for the bottom of the grip frame, bottom of the trigger guard bow and around the screw hole on the bottom right side.
