1948 Harley Davidson UL

Lot # 42

**Please note: This motorcycle will not be onsite in Pebble Beach due to a shipping delay. Bidding will continue as usual.** In 1948 Harley Davidson was busy launching their now "famous" Panhead models, the F, FL, and FLH. There is not a lot of information about the 1948 U-series ("Big Fatty"). The Harley Davidson factory had anticipated producing 970 units in 1948. The actual number is unknown. The majority of these motorcycles were exported to South America with a few staying in North America for the sole purpose of fulfilling long standing police and government contracts that clearly specified the procurement of U, UL, or ULH models. A 1937 model EL (Knucklehead) was originally traded for this rare 1948 UL model motorcycle. It was restored by J.C. Burgin in 1995. This motorcycle is an exceptionally accurate restoration and is extremely rare. Eng# 48U2519...more

1967 Triumph Bonneville T120R

Lot # 49

Instant Buy: $15,000. In 1956, Texan Johnny Allen built a fiberglass cigar around a 650cc T110 ‘Tiger’, and flew through the timing lights at Bonneville at 214 mph, claiming the World Motorcycle Speed record. His streamliner subsequently made a victory tour of Triumph dealers around the world, while Edward Turner, the legendarily egotistical boss of Triumph, snatched the ‘Bonneville’ name for his newest model for 1959, the T120. Essentially a dual-carb version of the old T110, the ‘Bonnie’ had a host of other go-faster improvements, including notably with the change to a power plant incorporating the gearbox and primary drive into a clean and streamlined unit. The chassis underwent big changes as well, with a duplex cradle frame giving better support to the swingarm pivot area, making the handling a little more secure. Brake sizes increased, and the styling evolved into a more compact and streamlined package, which we now think of as the ultimate Classic Bonneville. American market T120s gained the ‘R’ suffix to denote the changes which management felt were needed abroad, which included the TR6 wheel sizes and higher-rise handlebars. All Bonnevilles have terrific performance for their day, and can be relied on for a fun and secure ride, with the added benefit of being a beautiful and highly desired machine. To quote Jomo in 1967, "Here is the fastest standard motorcycle in the world today. Strictly for the expert rider." An opportunity to acquire a fast appreciating classic you can actually ride. A Jim Hiddleston meticulous restoration. Sold on a Bill of Sale/Import Papers. Fr#/Eng#T120RDU45494...more
