Whitney Pocket Percussion Revolver with Original Holster
Lot # 550 (Sale Order: 101 of 602)
.31 caliber, 4" octagonal barrel, S/N 12310. Marked on the top of barrel in two lines E. Whitney New Haven. Brass triggerguard with walnut grips. Comes with original old holster.
Condition: Barrel retains some of the original blue finish. The cylinder scene is excellent with nice light blue finish turning plum. Frame with patina. Grips are good. In an original holster.

.50 caliber, 5" iron octagonal browned Damascus twist barrels with folding bayonets. Locks engraved with floral motifs on the side panels. Smooth walnut club grips.

Cased Pair of Belgian Muff Percussion Pistols
Lot # 553 (Sale Order: 104 of 602)
.30 caliber, 1.5" round screw in barrel length, S/N 963. Marking on left side of barrel in an oval "E" over "LG" over star. Each pistol has the same engravings and markings. The frame lower and upper tang have a scroll engraving. The buttplate has a an oval border with a four-petal flower engraved on the bottom. The grips are ivory. Leather case with decorative border and scroll design on top. Has a faded red velvet lining with a metal bullet mold and a sterling silver powder flask.
Condition: The ivory grips are in excellent shape with an untouched yellowing patina. The metal has a smooth bright finish with very minor staining. Has sharp edges. The markings and engraving are very sharp and crisp. The leather case does have some scuffing especially on the corners. The velvet has a faded red to orange color. The bullet mold and the powder flask have a dark untouched patina. Overall condition is very good.

English Single-Shot Percussion Pistol
Lot # 554 (Sale Order: 105 of 602)
.54 caliber, 6" octagonal smooth bore barrel engraved London on the top with two silver inlaid bands on the breech and an engraved tang. Floral engraved hammer and backlock maker marked J. TARRAT. Full-length walnut stock has a checkered club grip, silver barrel pin plates and shield-shaped escutcheon below the barrel tang, and engraved iron triggerguard and ramrod pipe. Wooden ramrod is a contemporary replacement.
Condition: Fair to good. Moderate age and service wear. Stock has been cracked and repaired in several places; wood loss behind the lockplate and on the forward barrel channel. Tips broken from the reverse barrel pin plate.

Cased Belgian Percussion Boxlock Pistols
Lot # 556 (Sale Order: 107 of 602)
.38 caliber, 1.5" Damascus barrel length, S/N 5525. Iron frame with original ivory grips. Markings on left side of barrel in oval pattern with "E (above) L.G." Frame and tang have scroll engraving. This cased set also has all ivory accessories in original rosewood case with brass inlaid border around the case lid; brass plaque in the center of the lid. Case is lined in a blue cloth.
An aged note comes with this cased set from the consignor, which reads: "Pair of dueling pistols with ivory handles. These pistols were purchased from the McCormick family of Charleston, S.C. who were friends of Gen. Robt. E. Lee. These pistols are understood to have been purchased to the family by Gen. Lee when Mr. McCormick was a teacher at Washington & Lee Univ. where Lee was the president of the Univ. then." These pistols are alleged to have been held by the same family for at least three generations.
Condition: The original box is in excellent shape with nicks and dings. The brass inlay has a nice untouched patina. The engraving and markings are sharp and crisp. The barrels and hammer have a brown patina. The ivory grips along with the accessories are aged to yellow. Overall condition is very good.

Percussion Target Rifle by J. Craig, Pittsburgh

.54 caliber, 31.5" heavy octagonal barrel, stamped on the breech J. Craig Pittsburgh PA. Marked on the back-action percussion lock J. Craig Pittsburgh. Double-set triggers, brass triggerguard, brass buttplate and toeplate. Fancy walnut stock. Has scope mounts with a brass tube sight. 25-pound target rifle.
Condition: Barrel retains a plum finish with sharp edges. One dovetail in the rear of barrel, and two extra screws for scope mounts. Lock is sharp and crisp. Stock has a slight crack in the right side of stock; may be an old repair. Overall very good. 25-pound bench target rifle.

.36 caliber, 30" heavy octagonal barrel, 1.5" across the flats. Barrel marked A. W. Foster Pittsburg P.A. Long tang rear sight and hood front sight. Brass buttplate, toeplate and triggerguard. Double-set triggers with a walnut stock. Has false muzzle.
Condition: Barrel still retains some of the original blue finish turning plum. Markings are sharp and crisp. Brass has nice tarnished look. Stock is excellent. Hooded front sight is more modern. Bore is excellent. Overall excellent bench rifle.

.45-70 caliber, 30" heavy octagonal barrel, S/N 1734. Top of barrel marked E. Remington & Sons Ilion New York. Marked 45-70 caliber, on the bottom flat of barrel. Checkered pistol grip. Walnut stock and forearm.
Condition: Barrel is smooth and brown. Frame has sharp and crisp markings with nice patina. Stock and forearm are excellent with some nicks and dings. Bore is excellent.

Mexican War M1842 Springfield Percussion Musket

.69 caliber, 42" round barrel with proof marks. Lock marked with eagle and SPRINGFIELD / 1847. Full-length walnut stock with iron furniture. Has correct contemporary tulip-end ramrod.
Condition: Overall age darkened even finish. Light pitting on the breech with wood loss behind the nipple. The head of the tang screw has recent file marks.

Condition: Barrel has nice dark patina with pitting around the percussion drum spreading to the lock. Lock with dark patina. Stock has untouched dark patina. Brass with untouched patina. Very nice rifle in the black.

.31 caliber, 40" octagonal barrel marked D.S. Buckhorn. Rear barrel sight blade front sight. Forward-action percussion lock marked J. Tarrati & Sons. Eight engraved German silver inlays; two German silver four-point inlays on the both sides of the wrist; German silver oval inlaid on the cheek piece. Unusually shaped two-piece patchbox of brass that is also engraved. Brass buttplate, toeplate, triggerguard and nosecap. Double-set triggers. Maple stock.
Condition: The barrel has dark untouched patina. Lock matches the barrel. Brass and silver has tarnished patina. Stock has very nice untouched blackened patina. Overall this is a very fine untouched percussion rifle.

.36 caliber, 39.25" octagonal barrel. Engraved lock marked "N. ASHMORE," an early 19th Lancaster, PA lock maker. Double-set triggers, maple stock with untouched dark age patina and double line carving along the ramrod channel, brass furniture and wooden ramrod.
Condition: Good, nice age toning, some light pitting and moderate wood loss around the nipple and behind the breech.

.34 caliber, 32" octagonal barrel, marked JC Short KY. Lockplate is marked J.C Short Ky. Double-set triggers, Brass triggerguard, brass buttplate, iron fore end tip, walnut stock. Missing ramrod.
Condition: Barrel and lock have nice untouched patina. Stock is good with some nicks and dings. Brass has been cleaned.

.40 caliber, 36" octagonal barrel. Barrel marked J.C Short Danville Ky. Patented breech. Iron mounted with double-set triggers. Hooded rear sight mounted on the rear tang. Walnut stock typical of the region, having a hump behind the tang.
Condition: Barrel and lock with untouched patina. Some pitting around the percussion drum. Stock has an old repair using a brass sheet with wood screws. Stock with nice old blackened patina.

Lancaster, Kentucky Percussion Rifle

.45 caliber, 39.5" octagonal barrel with silver front sight blade, iron rear sight and a double-screw tang. Lock has engraved hammer and plated marked "Henry James / Warranted." Maple stock grain stained by hand to resemble tiger stripes; with cheek rest. Brass furniture includes three ramrod pipes and a floral and serpentine line engraved patch box. Complete with wood ramrod.
Condition: Good, even dark age toning on the barrel and lock. Light spots of old oxidation.

Percussion Long Rifle by Simon Miller
Lot # 567 (Sale Order: 118 of 602)
.40 caliber, 42" octagonal barrel. Lockplate marked Shmore warranted. Engraved forward-action percussion lock. This rifle was converted from flint to percussion using the original lockplate. Four-piece engraved brass patchbox. Brass sideplate, nosecap, triggerguard, buttplate and toeplate. Silver half-moons inlaid on both sides of the stock. Curly maple stock with incised caving and molding lines.
Condition: Barrel is smooth and brown with some pitting around the percussion drum and on the barrel around the drum. Lockplate is brown with some pitting under the drum. Stock has nice untouched black patina. Small piece of wood missing on the forward part of the lock. Stock has an old repair of something that was wrapped around the wrist, leaving behind a nice old black patina.

.36 caliber, 39.5" octagonal barrel. Forward action percussion lock. Engraved four-piece brass patchbox. Brass buttplate, toeplate, triggerguard, nosecap and ferules. Curly maple stock. 55" overall suggests maybe a boy's or lady's rifle. Nice light weight or trim rifle.
Condition: Barrel is smooth and dark brown patina. Some pitting on the percussion drum and spreading onto the barrel. Lock is grey mixing with some pitting and turning brown. Brass with nice tarnished look and stock with nice blackened untouched patina.

16 ga., 27.875" Damascus barrels. Checkered walnut stock. Case colored locks and iron parts which are finely scroll engraved. Double triggers. Blue triggerguard engraved with two setters and the balance with fine scrolls. Top of rib engraved "C. Playfair, Aberdeen. Maker To H.R.H. Prince Albert." Fitted mahogany case with brass ring handle engraved "Henry Lewis, Esqre. Green Meadow near Cardiff", compartments inside have a whistle marked "S. Auld, Maker, Glasgow." Brass powder flask marked "James Dixon & Sons. Sheffield." Lead flask marked "G. & J.W. Hawksley, Sheffield." Full tin of Eley caps, powder measure, screwdriver, brass key, brass capper, mainspring vise, wads.
Condition: Excellent condition with excellent bores. It retains ca 50% muted case colors on the locks and breech plugs while all other iron parts are void of finish. The barrels have been expertly restored and retain all of the added finish. The stock is very good with minor dings and scratches. The case is very good, but the label is a newer replacement.

14 ga., 31" Damascus barrel. Second 31.25" Damascus barrel by John Blanche. Checkered walnut stock, back action lock, finely engraved metal parts. Felt-lined mahogany and brass case contains leather powder flask by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield. Leather shot flask, nipple wrench, powder measure, and a spanner wrench.
Condition: Very good condition with good+ bores with some light pitting scattered about. The barrels have been expertly restored to like-new condition. All other metal surfaces are void of finish and the wood is very good.

Included in the mahogany and brass case is a brass powder flask by G. & J.W. Hawksley, Sheffield, leather shot flask, tin of Eley caps, ivory bottle with extra nipples, cork wads, brass capper, nipple wrench, powder measure, wad cutter, mainspring vise, cleaning brush, ebony 3-piece cleaning rod, and cleaning accessories.
Condition: Very good condition. Good, but lightly pitted, bores. The barrels have had an added coat of brown finish, but the Damascus pattern is still visible. The stock is very good with dings and scratches and an added coat of finish. The case is in very good condition.

Mahogany case includes leather-covered powder flask by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, leather shot flask, two powder measures, brass capper, horn whistle, Eley cap tin, ebony 3-piece cleaning rod, wad cutter.
Condition: Very good condition with very good bores with some light pitting throughout. It retains nearly all of the Damascus pattern and the highly figured wood is excellent as refinished.

Condition: Very good condition with a very good bore. The case has been relined to like-new condition.
