A 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan in barn find condition

Lot # 07 (Sale Order: 7 of 45)

A 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan in barn find condition Chassis: TBC Cadillac was founded in 1902 by master mechanic and entrepreneur Henry Leland who named the company after the founder of Detroit, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. Cadillac quickly established itself as a quality manufacturer of automobiles and is the first American car to win the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. The Cadillac slogan became, "Standard of the World." The list of firsts from Cadillac, such as the first production car to feature an electric self-starter is testimony to the company's innovation. By the end of the 1920s the Cadillac name, enriched by designer Harley Earl's work, is synonymous with luxury and style. This 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan despite having gathered dust for the last 20 years still exhibits that luxury and style. Its oral history tells of it having been a high ranking officer's car that was used for official and ceremonial purposes and this would appear to be borne out by the fact that it has the accoutrements of royal endorsement still attached along with official parking stickers still attached to the inside of the windscreen. The car is in need of restoration but appears complete whilst its interior is still in remarkably fine condition. The vehicle was last used on the road in 1964. Estimate $ 20,000-25,000...more

A 1971 Corvette Stingray Targa T-Top Chassis: 194371S100419 Bill Mitchell, designer of the replacement Corvette of the 1960s stated his creative ethos thus, "Pick up a billiard ball and it's boring. But pick up a baseball with all that texture and stitching and you play with it for hours." Detail and plenty of it was the order of the day with lots of added extras. This 1971 Corvette Stingray in Brands Hatch racing green underwent a full restoration in 2003. Fitted with a 454 cubic inch motor with aluminium heads to LS6 specification it has a Holley 850 double pumper, Edelbrock Torquer II 2.0 manifold intake; ignition is from an electric Bosch-type distributor by Ignition Developments and exhaust is by extractors into dual side-pipes with hot dog glass packs; the drivetrain is M40 T400 automatic, 2,000 rpm hi-stall torque converter with 3.73 ratio limited slip differential. In excellent all round condition this car has been lovingly maintained by an American collector who made his home in Australia many years ago. This automobile comes with the original tank copy of the factory order. This copy of the factory order was affixed to the top of the fuel tank during manufacture for each Corvette and verifies the specification. The scanned tank copy shows: - that the order for this car was received in the factory on 24/07/1970 - expected production completion date was 29/08/1970 - car was genuine 365hp 454 LS5 engine with M40 auto transmission and 3.83 optional rear axle ratio - options included N40 power steering, N37 Tilt-telescopic steering wheel, J50 power brakes, A31 power windows, C60 air conditioning (which was not re-installed at restoration because it was ineffective and drained power), U79 AM/FM stereo radio, PU9 white lettered tires, and P02 Deluxe Rally wheel covers - Custom 'Saddle' (colour) leather interior - 'War Bonnet Yellow' (colour) exterior paint which was changed at restoration to a more attractive 'Brands Hatch Green' - the original Warranty Booklet and Protect-O-Plate (scanned and included in folder) which shows car was sold at new to John Alford of Lubbock, Texas on 23/12/1970. The dealer was Modern Chevrolet of Lubbock. The car was brought to Australia in July 1987 by owner George Melham of Rainbow Beach, Queensland and converted to right hand drive by Newport & Associates of Karana Downs, Queensland, as shown by correspondence, Certificate of Inspection for ADR Compliance and Queensland Department of Transport Approval Document for Right-hand Drive Conversion. All the originals of these documents are scanned and included in the accompanying folder. At the end of the 1990's the car was purchased by James Russell of Sunbury, Victoria who commenced restoration. He upgraded the engine to LS6 specification with aluminium heads and performance enhancements including Edelbrock Torquer II dual plane manifold, forged pistons and a Holley 850 double pumper carburettor, as well as performance improvements to the T400 auto transmission and an Electronic Bosch-type distributor by Ignition Developments. By the end of 2000, the above drive train improvements had been completed however Mr. Russell had run out of enthusiasm to proceed further with restoration of the car's chassis, suspension, running gear, body and interior. The car was purchased from Mr. Russell in February, 2001 and underwent a full and high-quality restoration, including installation of the side exhaust pipes. A quick scan of the restoration invoices totals some $81,500 after the purchase price paid for the vehicle of $20,000.The car's VIN number is 194371S100419 and the engine number is CE36375. A 1966 Shelby GT350

Lot # 10 (Sale Order: 10 of 45)

A 1966 Shelby GT350 Chassis: SFM6S1513 The current owner purchased this car in Hanover, Pennsylvania in 2010 from Conover Racing and Restorations, well known and highly regarded Shelby experts. Originally sold by Courtesy Motors of Littleton Colorado for $3,695 in June 1966, the car is listed in the Register of the Shelby American Automobile Club [SAAC] and its authenticity has been verified by the 1965/66 SAAC Registrar, Howard C. Pardee of 4 Betty St, Waterford, CT 06385 GT350 SERIAL NUMBER VERIFICATION GT350 Serial Number: SFM6S1513 Name : XXXXXXXXXXXXX Date of Request : November 22, 2010 "Regarding the serial numbers you provided: the Ford serial number corresponds with the GT350 serial number I have on file - which came directly from factory records….." [SAAC will not tell you what the Ford chassis number is that matches up with the Shelby number, you have to tell them! It is one of the most tightly controlled Registers of classic cars in the world and is critical to the preservation of the marque's value] Conover Racing and Restorations carried out a full rotisserie restoration of the car which was completed in early 2011. Before the car left the USA it was shown at the SAAC Nationals - there can be no tougher judgment, as to authenticity and quality of a classic Shelby. Shelby American Automobile Club [SAAC] USA National Concours, Virginia International Raceway May 31 2011: SAAC-36 CONCOURS 2011 VIR Non-NOS Cars II Gold 66 Shelby 66 GT350 Red 6S 1513 XXXXXXXXXXX, Rob South Yarra AU The car was then exported to Australia under Import Approval 119908/3 At the Australian Nationals, not only did the car again win Gold, it also scooped the pool for Concours Excellence. Since 2013, the car has not been shown but it has been maintained in Concours condition and presents beautifully with recent detailing of the engine bay and the retrofit of the correct date coded "best available" [Scott Fuller] exhaust system as now required by SAAC. All the "little things" you only see in a Concours car - the unpainted dipstick tube, the yellow coil, the Autolite battery, the paint marks on the springs and driveshaft, the correct etching on all windows, the oil filler cap with the correct Ford logo… Even the "mistakes" are Concours correct - a little black overspray on the correct red oxide floor pan, firewall sound deadening is correctly "rough", as is the top of the firewall where the Export bar fits - great attention to detail. The only thing that is "knowingly" not "Concours Correct" is the installation of a dual Master Cylinder, purely for safety after the owner had a failure in a brake line in another classic Shelby, while crossing North America! The original "Concours Correct" single Master Cylinder goes with the car. However Shelbys were all made to be driven and this car drives superbly, the 289 is the original matching number engine, rebuilt in 2011 to run on unleaded fuel. It pulls strongly in any gear, shifts, steers and stops on the correct chrome Magnum wheels and "Blue Streak" Goodyear tyres. Estimate $ 255,000-295,000...more

A 1951 MV Agusta 125cc Motor Scooter

Lot # 11 (Sale Order: 11 of 45)

A 1951 MV Agusta 125cc Motor Scooter Count Giovanni Agusta was a pioneer of the Italian aeronautics industry. Born in Sicily, he later moved to Lombardy and in 1907 founded his company at "Cascina Costa" in Samarate (Varese). Production of Agusta aircraft soared during the First World War. In 1927 in response to the Italians' growing demand for individual motorised transport Agusta converted production from aircraft to motorcycles. MV Agusta became a racing legend thanks to outstanding progress in performance and technology. A 1967 Fuji Rabbit Motor Scooter

Lot # 12 (Sale Order: 12 of 45)

A 1967 Fuji Rabbit Motor Scooter The Fuji Rabbit was a motor scooter produced in Japan by Fuji Heavy Industries from 1946 until 1968. Although not particularly well known outside of Japan (export began to the USA in 1957), the Fuji Rabbit actually appeared some six months prior to the first Vespa. Stylish and svelte Fuji Rabbit advertising was very much aimed at a female audience; these scooters are not to be underestimated however as they are quick and string as evidenced by one advertisement depicting a Rabbit carrying a Sumo wrestler and as "The Choice of a Gentleman" in others. The Rabbit has earned itself a place in Japanese pop culture as a symbol of nostalgia and is also highly collectable by the 'Scooterati' due to its rarity and technological sophistication. The desirable example offered is in magnificent condition including the automatic torque converter and rear air ride suspension and completely restored to a very high level using many new old stock parts that are very hard to find. The restoration was far in excess of its estimated asking price. It has been in the current owner's scooter collection for the past 15 years. Estimate $ 9,000-11,000...more

A 1970 Porsche 911T 2.2 Litre

Lot # 17 (Sale Order: 17 of 45)

A 1970 Porsche 911T 2.2 litre Chassis: 911110032 Engine: 6110562 In September 1963, Porsche presented the Porsche 901 at the IAA in Frankfurt as a successor to the Porsche 356. One year later, as of model year 1965, series production of the model began and it was renamed the 911 shortly thereafter. In 1968 the 911T, the "Touring" version, became the new entry-level model in the 911 family, initially developing 110 hp and later 130 hp. Its equipment matched that of the four-cylinder 912 model. One of the ways in which it could be distinguished from more powerful models (the E and S) was the fact that it had a silver rather than a gold logo. Features of the Porsche 911T were bumpers featuring chrome-plated bumper guards with rubber pads; rear lid with chrome-plated air grille; chrome-plated horn grille; wide sill trims; round, chrome-plated exterior mirrors; silver-coloured Porsche logo; silver-coloured 911 T emblem straight and centrally mounted; windscreen wipers laying to the left; outer door handles with trigger lever in the inside (pistol grip handles). This beautiful example of the iconic Porsche 911 is a matching numbers right hand drive vehicle originally delivered new to South Africa through Lindsay Saker Motors, Johannesburg. It is presented in marvellous condition having been beautifully restored recently to a very high standard by its current, third, owner. The engine was totally refreshed by Motion Automotive in February 2013. The work carried out also included new clutch kit, and new front and rear shock absorbers, whilst the factory standard Zenith carburettors were fully reconditioned. Invoices for all the work carried out are available. The interior is unrestored and presented in excellent original condition. The car also comes with a set of very good original 14" Fuchs wheels. Accompanied by a full history file, including Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and Australian import permit one might ask if this is not indeed the famous German 'Tangerine Dream'? A 1934 Packard V12 Formal Sedan in barn find condition

Lot # 19 (Sale Order: 19 of 45)

A 1934 Packard V12 Formal Sedan in barn find condition Chassis: 732 15 The Packard Twelve engine of the 1930s is regarded as one of the most advanced for its time and beautiful of engines. It was possessed of more cubic inches, more torque and more horsepower than the sixteen cylinder Cadillac of the same period. In 1934 a Packard 12 Formal Sedan, a true thoroughbred, ruled the automotive world in North America, hence its title, "Boss of the Road". John R. Bond, founder of Road & Track magazine said, "For my money give me a V-12 Packard every time - a car, in my opinion, superior to the Rolls-Royce Phantom III." This Formal Sedan in barn find condition after many years of disuse is a most rare car. According to the 1978 book on the 1934 Packard Twelve, written by the late Edward J. Blend of Irwin, PA, the following 1107 formal sedans have been accounted for:732 14 15 18 24 28 40. Evidence points to the fact that this car, 732 15, was originally sold at Park Avenue Packard in NYC and was owned by the Stegmaier family who had owned a brewery in Pennsylvania from 1857. In the 1960s the Packard was owned by Donald Rook also of Pennsylvania who had a company called 'Strictly Packard' and a Pennsylvania Financial Responsibility Identification Card shows it as still being his property as late as November 1989 and of it having appeared at the Hellerton Lions Club Antique Auto Show in 1978 Lately among Packard Twelve enthusiasts there has developed some interest in the Proving Ground inspector's sticker which was fastened to the left side of the outside of the passenger side glove box. Each Packard Twelve was run around the test track at the Proving Ground before being shipped to whichever dealer had ordered it. This sticker is still remaining in position in this wonderful automobile. A significant opportunity is herewith presented to acquire what would surely be a most welcome addition to any concours worldwide post restoration of a vehicle that appears to have all of its original component parts completely together. A 1951 Hartnett 4-seater tourer

Lot # 20 (Sale Order: 20 of 45)

The Hartnett car was built by the Hartnett Motor Company Ltd. It was based on the French Gregoire light car with some parts being built under licence. Former GM-H Managing Director (Sir) Laurence Harnett established the firm to fill a perceived gap in the market for a small economical car. It utilised aluminium chassis castings to save weight and reduce costs. The front end of the roof, windscreen surround, upper dash and cowl is a single casting which bolts to the lower dash and chassis frame. A total of six sections bolt together to make the chassis. It was fitted with a two-cylinder horizontally opposed engine. Hard-top 'Tasman' and soft-top 'Pacific' body styles were offered. By 1950 a large number of Hartnett cars had been ordered but the contractor for the steel body panels, Commonwealth Engineering did not deliver the required panels forcing the Hartnett Company to build panels by hand and just 125 cars were actually completed. The Company went out of business in 1955. The cover of the Hartnett brochure stated that it was, "Entirely new in automobile engineering and design. Sponsored by Australia for low-cost motoring", whilst the car badge featured the Southern Cross. This Hartnett is one of the rarest of cars. This very pretty little car offered, a 1951 Hartnett Pacific four-seater tourer, number 11 of the total 125 Hartnetts made, is believed to be the only Hartnett on the road today. Other examples, numbering just three, sit in museums, or perhaps await possible discovery. This highly collectable and unique piece of Australian automotive and post war social history is in impeccable condition having been painstakingly and lovingly looked after by the same family since it was bought new in 1951. Its 592cc air-cooled flat-twin engine runs like a charm and it has done only 17,115 miles since new. It is registered and has its original Victorian number plates which are to be sold with the car. It has appeared at various events including the Adelaide Classic Bay to Birdwood Rally, the 2001 Federation of Australia Car Rally, the Australian Formula One GP and most recently at the 2013 Motorclassica International Concours d'Elegance. The last Hartnett left on the road today. Estimate $ 50,000-55,000...more

After the Great War, the Squirrel introduced in 1922, followed by the Super Squirrel in 1925 and the Flying Squirrel in 1926 made the Scott Motorcycle truly famous. A 1953 Bastert Einspurauto Motor Scooter

Lot # 23 (Sale Order: 23 of 45)

A 1953 Bastert Einspurauto Motor Scooter Helmut Bastert's factory in Bielefeld, Germany built motor scooters for a short period between 1949 and the mid 1950s. It is best remembered for the unusual and rare Einspurauto. These expensive and sophisticated scooter-like bikes had a body fabricated from aluminium built up over a steel frame in a manner taken from aircraft production learnt during the second world war. The wheels were solid aluminium. It had an engine compartment light, Bosch ignition and twin taillights fashioned in a teardrop design. The dash panel included an individual light for each gear selected, and the rider's red leather-covered seat converted quickly to fashion a dual seat. In total it is believed approximately 1,200 units were built of which perhaps less than 20 still survive. This incredibly rare and desirable machine offered is a superb example of the Bastert. In absolutely tip-top condition this is one of the most sought after of scooters amongst collectors for its build quality and aerodynamic looks. Part of the current owner's scooter collection for the past 12 years it came into his hands via another collector, a 1998 auction, a USA car collector and a German Museum. A 1953 MM Holden Special

Lot # 24 (Sale Order: 24 of 45)

A 1953 MM Holden Special Chassis: N/A Conceived in the Molina Albert Park backyard the MM (Molina/Massola) Holden was indeed something special. It consisted of a Silvio Massola home made chassis, Standard 12 front end, H.R.G differential and gearbox, early 1948 Holden motor and a very attractive body by Brian Burnett. The MM had its first serious outing (after having run at Fishermen's Bend on the 3rd October) on November 21st at the 1953 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park. Lou Molina piloting the car over the 64 lap 200 mile event finished in a remarkable 5th place. This was an even more remarkable feat considering this locally built race car was so new that it had only been run up and down some of the nearby streets in the dark of night before the 18th Australian GP meeting being held for the first time at Albert Park in Melbourne. The 2290cc MM Holden started at 30th place on the grid with the race including such legends as Stan Jones in the Maybach Mk 1, Jack Brabham who failed to start in his Cooper Bristol, Lex Davison in the HWM Jaguar and Bib Stilwell in an Austin Healey. The race was won by Doug Whiteford in his Lago Talbot T26C whilst 5th position for the MM secured 75 pounds prize money. The MM raced the following year at the 1954 New Zealand Grand Prix with Molina competing alongside other Australian drivers including Jack Brabham, Stan Jones, Tony Gaze, Alec Mildren and Maurie Stanton. January 9th 1954 was the first NZ GP at Ardmore south of Auckland but unfortunately on this occasion the MM was not so successful retiring early on with mechanical problems whilst a similar fate also befell 1951 Le Mans winner, England's Peter Whitehead with his V12 Ferrari 125. Amongst other notable runs, in1956 the MM Holden Special finished in the top six at the Argus Cup again at Albert Park and also clocked 15.3 seconds for the standing quarter mile at the Geelong Sprints. According to John Blanden's definitive book 'Historic Racing Cars in Australia' first published in 1979 and in which this car features extensively the MM was destroyed by fire in 1963. "In the late 1990s CAMS was approached by Roy Williams of Geelong seeking to build a recreation of the original MM Holden." The project was approved "..with the construction with enthusiasm and with the assistance of Sil Massola, the Molina and Leech families." This important piece of Australian motor racing history is a fast and competitive historic racer, its current owner of the last ten years now deeming it too speedy for his years and worthy of a new more daring owner in the cockpit to continue the legend. The car today can still be run as a either a racing car stripped for action or sports car with road equipment as it did in its heyday in the 1950s. Estimate $ 140,000-180,000...more

A 1937 Derby Bentley 4.25 litre by Park Ward

Lot # 25 (Sale Order: 25 of 45)

A 1937 Derby Bentley 4 1/4 litre by Park Ward Chassis: BK47KU Engine: T5BS A beautiful and complete Derby Bentley in original condition, 1937 Park Ward 4 1/4 litre CC Razor Edge Pillarless Saloon in two-tone light and dark brown, with spats fitted over wire wheels. Purchased new in April 1937 by Captain Tom Barr Smith and brought to Australia where it remained in the Barr Smith family for many years. The car was sold in about 1949 before being bought back in1963 by Tom Barr Smith the younger . Dick Cobden (a racing driver and enthusiast in period) and then George Thompson who was a well known second hand car dealer and member of the Sporting Car Club of SA were owners in this interim period As a CC Razor Edge Pillarless Saloon by Park Ward, it is one of the first Derby's to have a steel body frame rather than a wooden frame which has enabled the body, number B264, to remain straight and true rather than sagging, as is the misfortune over time of many wood framed examples. Barr Smith drove the car for a few years before sending it back to the UK to a firm named S Brunt and Co. who performed a restoration job. Barr Smith and his wife owned the car for many years and used it for their daughter's wedding some 21 years after the Brunt restoration. At one point Tom Barr Smith held the Collingrove PVT hill climb record in it for a period of time. It was sold in the early 1990s to Mr William Hodder and then to the current owner shortly afterwards in 1997. When purchased by the current owner in April 1997 the odometer reading was 54,843 miles. Currently the odometer reading is 60,460 miles. Servicing by the current owner over the past 18 years includes a pair of new axle shafts and differential repair work together with brake, suspension and steering maintenance and general servicing work as required. It is featured in the Third James Flood Book of Early Motoring. Drivers manuals old and new, key, original (much faded) order specification form and log book from 1997 are available. Replacement coils have been fitted for reliability. Estimate $ 195,000-260,000...more
