U.S. Model 1872 Enlisted Belt and Holster

Lot # 51 (Sale Order: 51 of 413)      

Belt measures 38.5" with buckle and keeper. Buckle measures 3.25" x 2.12". Holster has stitched belt loop with three rivets and brass finial. Neither belt, buckle, nor holster show any makers marks.



Condition: Fair condition; Leather is pliable but has flaking and cracking throughout. Some bloom and verdigris on holster. Buckle and keeper show a dull luster with some verdigris and darkening.

U.S. Model 1874 Cavalry Picket Pin with Original Leather Holder

Lot # 54 (Sale Order: 54 of 413)      

12.5". Leather scabbard with two straps with brass buckles and one retaining strap with brass button. Back of scabbard marked with "1538" in addition to another illegible character between 5 and 3.



Condition: Good condition. Dark coloration and oxidation on pin. Leather is pliable with some finish loss and creasing near tip. Fittings have a dark luster.

Pennsylvania National Guard Staff Officer's Chapeau, Identified to Milton A. Gherst

Lot # 55 (Sale Order: 55 of 413)      

17"x5" with 1.5" gold bouillon tassels and 2"x5" bold bullion cockade strap and Pennsylvania National Guard button. Crown marked "J.H. Wilson Military Goods, Philadelphia." Tag on inside marked "M.A. Gherst."

Milton Gherst enlisted in Company A of the 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry in January of 1864. In May 1865 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Gherst survived the war and became a trust officer in the Berks County Trust Company of Reading, Pennsylvania. He was active in the Grand Army of the Republic, in which he served as a Department Commander in 1906. During his post-war career, Gherst served as Adjutant General of the Third Brigade of the Pennsylvania National Guard and would rise to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during the Spanish-American war. Gherst died in Millersville, Pennsylvania in 1916.

Lot of Civil War and Spanish American War Canteens

Lot # 56 (Sale Order: 56 of 413)      

Lot includes one J. H. Rohrman contract 1862 Philadelphia Depot canteen with jean wool cover and cotton sling. Maker's mark on soldered rolled pewter spout with three sling keepers and cork chain. Also includes one Model 1878 canteen with leather strap, pewter spout and cork chain. Faded writing on back reads "M.D." with some illegible letters.



Condition: Fair condition. 1862 canteen has some damage to cover with fraying of strap. Maker's mark has some wear. Model 1878 canteen has moderate staining on cover with some rust and some loss of finish on strap. Both keepers present.

.30-06, cut barrel, S/N 4190784. Firing pin has been removed, barrel cut, magazine cut-off welded. Non-military fabricated rear sight. Trigger group, safety, and bolt functional. Barrel date 12-43 with Rock Island Arsenal markings.



Condition: Fair to poor condition. Rifle is non-functioning. Parts retain a parkerized finish. Bore fair.

**Spanish Model 1895 Mauser Sporter Bolt Action Carbine

Lot # 58 (Sale Order: 58 of 413)      

7mm caliber, 17" barrel, S/N E6593. Blade front sight with v-notch rear sight. Sling swivels on left side of stock an butt with saddle ring beneath wrist. Possibly sporterized "Mexican Configuration." Reciever marked "Fabrica de Armas Oviedo" with illegible date. Stock carved with "RRC" on right side and "CARLOTA" on left side.



Condition: Poor condition. Barrel has a dark coloration with pitting throughout. Bolt functions smoothly and has a dark gunmetal patina with little active rust. Stock has numerous blemishes and dents with 2" crack behind rear sight. Bore fair.

Condition: Fair condition. Type 30 has a mixed overall coloration with pitting and some finish loss throughout. Both grips intact some finish wear on scabbard. No. 4 bayonet has some darkening overall with some finish loss on edges and flaking of finish on scabbard.

6.5mm caliber, 17" barrel, S/N 942-xx. Blade front sight with v-notch rear sight. Front of sight marked with caliber. Barrel shank marked with serial number and "Gardone V.T." Top of bolt handle marked "BI" in circle with bottom of bolt handle marked "G/FP." Bolt marked "C.A.B." Cleaning rod recess in buttplate. No bayonet.



Condition: Fair condition. Light spots of rust overall. Metal parts have a dark gray overall coloration. Stock shows marks and dents consistent with age and use.

.30-06 caliber, 24" barrel, S/N 3847991. Parkerized finish. Typical A3 year sights with front sight replaced with Lyman blade. Barrel date reads 7-43 with Rock Island Armory markings. Left side of stock near wrist shows "RA" rebuild marks with Springfield markings and "FJA" inspector stamp. Single circle-P stamp behind trigger. Left side of buttstock shows "O.G." in square stamp. Fitted with US marked rifle grenade recoil pad.



Condition: Fine. Much of the parkerized finish remains with only minor wear on moving parts. Stock has some blemishes consistent with age and use. Bore good to very good.

Comes with holster marked with "joa" factory code, 1943 manufacture date and "WaA706" waffenamt. Inside marked "Eichele."



Condition: Good condition. Refinished pars show some light sear on raised surfaces with original stamps mostly clear. Original finish shows some wear with legible stamps. Some very light rust spotting on barrel. Grips free of cracking or missing pieces. Some leather wear on holster. Bore very good.

All visible numbers matching, and are correct in their application after finish was applied. Canadian broad arrow markings on right side of frame above trigger. Left side of slide marked "MK. I*" over "BROWNING FN/9mm HP INGLIS CANADA." Chinese characters accompany markings on left side of slide. Right side of slide shows half-moon scallop cut. Hammer marked "II." Non-serialized stock marked on left side "MADE IN CANADA" and marked on right side "S.ALTD./1945." Magazine non-serialized.



Condition: Fine. Some wear to finish on raised surfaces and edges. Stamps legible. Very little wear on grips or stock. Bore excellent.

25.5" single-edged blade. 37" overall. Shagreen grip with cotton wrapping and cherry blossom menuki. Officer's mounting with cherry blossom motifs. Officer's sword knot on pommel. Cotton tag on scabbard ring shows "Nishimachi" as a town name and "Tokaji Yasuyoshi" as a personal name. Steel scabbard with brass mountings and OD green scabbard.

Condition: Good condition. Blade has some staining with no chips or other damage to edge. Grip and guard are in good condition with no unraveling or major damage to shagreen. Scabbard has some darkening and blemishes consistent with age.

27" single edged blade with 38" overall length. Brass guard with green cotton-wrapped shagreen grip and cherry blossom menuki ornaments. Brown chord on pommel. Brown pained metal scabbard. Comes in fitted lined box.



Condition: Very good condition. Blade is bright with no rust or any sort of damage to edge. Some darkening on spine. Grip has some movement of grip wrapping and some deformation of shagreen. Some fading of cotton wrapping.

Condition: Good condition. Blade is bright with no major rust with some very light staining. Edge is free of major chips or other damage. Guard is missing. Scabbard shows some darkening and light pitting and verdigris.
