Aaliyah (27) Press/Promo Photos (Jonathan Mannion)

Lot # 159 (Sale Order: 204 of 309)

Aaliyah Lot of (27) Press/Promo Original Photographs and Contact Sheets by Jonathan Mannion (For Virgin Music) W/Original Box - This lot includes (27) original press/prom...moreo photographs and worksheets taken of Aaliyah by Jonathan Mannion for Virgin Music. Some of the photos still have the photographer's post-it notes on the backs, as these photos have not been touched since she passed away. Aaliyah unfortunately passed away before these photos could be used, as she passed in a tragic plane crash right after these photos were taken. This was said to be her last photo shoot. After these photos were taken, and after her very unexpected passing, these photos ended up being left in NYC to collect dust after Virgin Music closed their office. As a parting gift, the seller was given these photos as an exclusive gift, and a piece of iconic R&B history. These photos are simply stunning, and show Aaliyah's true beauty. She truly was one of the most beautiful women of her time. She also paved the way for performers like Brittany Spears, Nicki Minaj, Lil' Kim, Alicia Keys and so many other performers we love today. Aaliyah items never come up for auction, and many of her most personal items have been kept by friends and family. There has been much controversy surrounding her estate, that you almost never see items related to our beloved Aaliyah. Aaliyah was best known for her work with Missy Elliot and Timbaland. These photos are so special, because it was after the allegations of her marrying R. Kelly at the age of young age of 15 that caused her to part ways from Jive Records, and move to Virgin Music. It is said that that decision changed her life. The lot includes (4) photo contact sheets, (15) 11" x 14" photos, and (8) 8" x 12" photos. They are housed in the original box from LTI New York addressed to Virgin Records in Germany. Jonathan Mannion is one of the country's most acclaimed portrait photographers and a singular sensation within the world of hip-hop. His 25-year career includes over of 300 album covers ranging from Jay-Z to Aaliyah to D.J. Khaled, notable advertising campaigns including Beats by Dre's "Straight Outta", Cadillac, and Bushmills, and editorial work for The Fader, Vibe Magazine, and Complex. Jonathan has photographed over 500 of the most important rappers, actors, athletes, artists, designers, and tastemakers of his era. Shipping Note: This item is located in Florida.
