Patterned silk indigo hanging on an acrylic pole. Utilizing the ancient art of tie die, Fukumoto achieves a fresh, natural texture with light and movement that is disntinctly modern. A graduate of the Kyoto University of Fine Arts, she initialy adopted western styles of paintingbut after traveling to New Guinea, specifically Bhutan, she became intrigued with dyeing as a modum. After marrying indigo artist Shigeki Fukumoto, a dye artist from a family with a long tradition in the field, she continued to explore contemporary themes in the ancient craft. NAOMI KOBAYASHI. Textile artist married to Masakazu. She exhibited alone andlater also in tandem with her husband. Both are in major museum textile collectionsin Europe and Japan with their large installations. It is interesting that, whereas his work is lyrical, floating and flowing, hers is architectural with dense, structured tones. She uses materials such as Japanese paper, cotton and paper to create repeating forms to evoke cycles of life, nature and universe. A proficient weaver which she also incorporates in some of her pieces.

This large-scale map of the Campus Martius is included in Piranesi's book Campus Martius, which described the history and the present state of the area; this map showed the area restored to its former glory, and was based on the marble fragments of the Severan plan of the city, which had been reassembled by Nolli in the 1740s. The plan was dedicated to Roberto-Adam-Britanno (1728-1792), and Piranesi had worked on it from 1757 (this date appears on plate 5, on the top left medaillon) until the publication of the book in 1762.
