1936 Gettysburg Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Choice Unc

Lot # 400 (Sale Order: 329 of 720)

1936 Gettysburg Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Choice Unc. The 1936 Battle of Gettysburg Half Dollar was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the pivotal bat...moretle of the American Civil War. The issue has become one of the more popular amongst the early commemorative coins. The obverse depicts Union and Confederate soldiers in profile. On the reverse are Union and Confederate shields separated by a fasces, a bundle of sticks bound together around a double sided axe, with sprays of oak and laurel to each side. Designed by Frank Vittor, the design for the coin is sometimes described as metallic in appearance. This effect is created by the outer ring containing inscriptions and the exaggerated basining of the fields.Similar to the Delaware Half Dollar, the Gettysburg Half Dollar is associated with a somewhat confusing array of dates. The coins are issued to celebrate an anniversary which occurs in 1938, however they were issued in 1937, and dated 1936.The maximum authorized mintage for the Battle of Gettysburg Half Dollar was 50,000 pieces to be struck at a single mint. The entire number was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and distributed by the Pennsylvania State Commission at a price of $1.65 per coin. In 1938, an unsold quantity of coins was turned over to the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania, who sold the coins for $2.65 each. Eventually, an unsold quantity of 23,100 pieces was returned to the mint for melting. The coin at hand is tied for the Finest Known and well deserving of its grade. Far and away the finest I have ever seen. Fully struck with rich, multicolored iridescence over each side in a fully original pattern. The centers basically present as brilliant with mint-green shades deepening to pastel-blue, then antique-gold and red-russet at the borders. A technically unimpeachable and visually stunning Superb Gem.

***Auction Highlight*** 1896-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc PL By USCG (fc)

Lot # 401 (Sale Order: 330 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1896-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded Select Unc PL By USCG. Up for auction is a coin which is rare in all grades and is unheard of in PL or DMPL....more We have never brought a PL or DMPL 1896-s to auction. To Quote Q. David Bowers “1896-S Morgan dollars are relatively common in lower grades from VG-8 up through VF-30. EF-40 pieces are elusive, and coins in the AU category are seldom seen. In Mint State, the 1896-S dollar is quite elusive. Most pieces are average strikes with average to above average luster. Others are lightly struck at the centers. Even lightly struck pieces are usually quite pleasing in appearance. Proof like 1896-S dollars are rare. DMPL coins are rarer yet. Most seen show heavy abrasions. The Redfield estate coins included DMPL specimens with prominent die polish lines, but as of September 1992 neither NGC nor PCGS had graded even one DMPL piece. The "Proof' offered by William & L. Pukall (The Numismatist 10/53) probably was a DMPL.” As of Today PCGS estimates that only 21 examples survive in PL. PCGS has graded 3 total examples and NGC has graded 3 as PL. Also to date PCGS has still not graded 1 example as DMPL. The coin at hand has very strong mirrored fields as can be seen in the photos. Those 6 1896-s Morgans have been at auction 8 times in the last 20 years. The lone au58 PL sold for $1495 back in 2004, and 3 ms62 PL examples went to the hammer in 2005, 2006, and 2010, The one in 2010 sold for $10,925. I have included a picture of that ms62, as well as the lone ms66, to illustrate the die file lines. The ms66 was the last sighting of a PL at auction in 2016, that is until today. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin

***Auction Highlight*** 1893-p TOP POP! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms62+ DMPL By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 411 (Sale Order: 340 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1893-p TOP POP! Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms62+ DMPL By SEGS. Up for Auction is a true Numismatic Rarity. An 1893-p Morgan in DMPL. Its one ...morething to come across a numismatic rarity in a niche type series, but to come across it in one of, if not the most widely collected series is incredible. I have never seen a DMPL in 1893 in all my years in numismatics. I could not believe it when it came upon my eyes. The Mirrored fields are just that. True Mirrors. Please closely examine the closeup mirror pics. The Cameo is superb. To Quote PCGS “Availability of proof like coins: True proof like coins are rare, and DMPL coins are exceedingly rare. Only a few exist.” To further quote them “Proof like coins: Proof like coins are very rare, and DMPL pieces are exceedingly rare.” In fact they are so rare, that in the Wholesale dealer Greysheet, no 1893-p in DMPL is even listed! PCGS estimates that 12 PL examples exist. Our coin is NO PL, it is a DMPL with sharp deep mirrors. PCGS has only ever graded 7 coins as PL, none above 62 PL. In DMPL PCGS has only ever graded 4 coins DMPL, again none above ms62 DMPL . I am including pictures of the lone ms61 dmpl and lone ms62 dmpl to go to auction. They sold for $14,950 and $14,375. One in 2008 and one in 2005. None at auction in the last 12 years….UNTIL Tonight. I will also add that the lone ms62 DMPL, was in an OGH, Old Green Holder, and as any long time coin person will tell you, PCGS’s standards for PL and DMPL years ago, when they used the Old Green Holder was much less strict than today. I am 100% certain that that ms62 DMPL if graded today would not get DMPL, it might not even get PL. Trends on an ms62 DMPL is $25,000. I do believe you are looking at the single finest known 1893-p DMPL. I wish you good fortune and good luck in securing this once in a lifetime opportunity. It has been a true pleasure to be its caretaker this past month A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1938 New Rochelle Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS (fc)

Lot # 414 (Sale Order: 343 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1938 New Rochelle Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68 By SEGS. The 1938 New Rochelle Half Dollar was one of several early commemorative issues...more that celebrated an event of primarily local significance with the issuance of a coin on a national scale. These coins were conceived and planned by the Westchester County Coin Club of New Rochelle, New York.Initially, Lorillard Wise was engaged to prepare the designs for the coin. Her first models featured a Native American crouching in the grass and watching a boat carry settlers to the shore on the obverse, and the city seal on the reverse. The Commission of Fine Arts rejected the designs, recommending changes, which were executed and also rejected.Eventually, Gertrude Lathrop, who had designed the 1936 Albany Half Dollar, was engaged to prepare new designs for the New Rochelle Half Dollar. Her obverse design would depict John Pell and a fatted calf, which recalls the sale of the original land upon which the city now stands. One of the conditions of the sale was for Pell or his heirs to receive a fatted calf each year on June 24. The reverse design features the fleur-de-lis, taken from the seal of the city. Similar to the obverse, the single design element is presented in a flat and open field with sharply contrasted lettering. Authorizing legislation provided that the coins should be dated 1938, without regard to when the coins were actually minted, and have a maximum mintage of 25,000 pieces. The Philadelphia Mint struck the entire amount in 1937, which were sold through the New Rochelle Commemorative Coin Committee for $2 each. Eventually, almost 10,000 pieces were returned to the mint for melting, resulting in small net distribution of 15,266 coins. When examining a New Rochelle Check for wear on the calf’s hip and the highpoints of the fleur de lies. 0

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Sahara 1934 Walker & 1902 Ba

Lot # 415 (Sale Order: 344 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Sahara 1934 Walker & 1902 Barber Ends. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a col...morelection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.
