Early French Bisque Bebe Steiner in Fine Grand Size 5000/7500

23" (58 cm.) Bisque socket head with rounded facial shape and delicate pale bisque, tiny almond shaped blue glass inset eyes, dark eye liner, delicately painted lashes, widely arched feathered brows, mauve blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, slightly parted lips, two rows of tiny teeth, unpierced blushed earlobes, blonde lambswool wig over cork pate, Steiner composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists, wearing lovely antique white cotton and lace dress and bonnet, undergarments, stockings, leather shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1880. Value Points: rare early model with compelling expression, unusually large size for this early doll, original body and body finish, lovely bisque with luminous complexion.
French Lady's Toilette Accessory 300/500

6" (15 cm.) A silvered metal horse in prancing pose is pulling a two-wheeled cart that supports a blue glass barrel with painted flowers, and two dainty perfume bottles; at the back is a pin holder. Excellent condition. French, circa 1885.
French Bisque Bebe Gigoteur by Jules Steiner for Au Nain Bleu 3000/4500
Lot # 103 (Sale Order: 103 of 306)
18" (46 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with rounded facial shape, blue glass enamel inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, dark eye liner, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth, shaded and accented lips, two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, carton torso containing clockwork mechanism, composition arms and lower legs, kid-over metal upper legs. When keywound, the doll turns its head from side to side, waves arms and legs in baby-like manner, and cries "mama". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Comments: Bebe Gigoteur by Jules Steiner, circa 1885. Value Points: commissioned by the illustrious Paris doll shop of Au Nain Bleu, wearing lavish lace costume created by the couturiers of that shop with matching bonnet that bears the silk label of Au Nain Bleu, and contained in its original wooden packing box.
French Child's Traditional Normandy Costume with Coiffe 600/900
Lot # 104 (Sale Order: 104 of 306)
Of cream and red striped muslin with V-shaped bodice and Alencon embroidered lace shawl and homespun apron, the dress features embroidered red edging on the collar and cuffs, and along the edges of matching apron. There is a homespun matching coiffe decorated with embroidery and red velvet ribbons, in the style of Normandy folklore costumes. Suitable costuming for very large dolls, overall length 27", 10" shoulder width. Circa 1900, from Au Nain Bleu.
Rare French Child's Costume of Vivandiere with Lace Coiffe 600/900

The unusual costume features a blue and red fitted woolen jacket with elaborate brass buttons and French red, white and blue rosette, along with red, white and blue heavy homespun skirt, and a tulle coiffe with wide ruffled lace edging trimmed with gold silk ribbons. The costume is of the Vivandiere, the nurse who aided wounded battlefield soldiers during the Franco/Prussian War of 1870. The costume was displayed in the windows of Paris doll store, Au Nain Bleu. Suitable costuming for very large doll, 30" overall length, 10" shoulder width. Circa 1900

34" (86 cm.) adjustable height. The wooden framed tri-pod mannequin with ebony wooden finish has linen body cover, and is stamped Stockman, Paris, Brevete on linen, and embossed the same on adjustable key. Excellent condition. French, circa 1885.

Of heavy navy blue wool the fitted two-piece uniform has red woolen stripes on trousers, red cuffs with gold braid trim, and fitted collar, brass buttons. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1078 Germany Simon & Halbig S&H 7 1/2 (head) Bebe Vrai Modele Fabrication Jumeau (body label). Comments: SFBJ, circa 1910, the model was commissioned by Au Nain Bleu who created its costume and presentation. Value Points: superb original preservation of the luxury store bebe, having original Au Nain Bleu labels on torso, original box, and silk label of dress; included with the doll is peach silk dress, matching elaborate bonnet, undergarments marked "7", socks, earrings, hair ribbon, and original shoes with impressed design of doll marked "7 depose".

French Pale Green Silk Taffeta Doll Dress for Au Nain Bleu 500/800

Of very pale apple green, the silk taffeta dress features fitted waist, gored skirt with ruffed hem decorated with gathered crepe de chine and interspersed with woven wave, with lace trim at neckline, yoke and cuffs. The dress has an original silk label from Au Nain Bleu on the inside of bodice. Circa 1890. Excellent condition. To fit doll about 30". 21" overall length, 8" shoulder width.
Two Rare 19th Century French Candy Containers 600/900

Comprising round 4" candy box from aA.D. Godchaux with engraving on the cover that contains 20 miniature 1 1/2" paper candy cones inside, each decorated with pressed gold papers and colorful decoupage; and 7" x 5" card stock checkerboard that disguises the box hidden beneath that contains 18 tiny cardboard chocolate wrappers with colorful animal prints, and wooden checker pieces. Excellent condition. France, circa 1885.
Set, French Blown Glass Miniature Toilette Set 500/800

2" (5 cm.) ring holder. Of opaque green glass decorated with gold leaf rims and abstract red and black flowers, the Art Deco period toilette set comprises powder jar with lid and powder puff, ring holder, perfume bottle with stopper, perfume bottle with atomizer, lidded jar, bottle, and two pin trays. Excellent condition except chip on bottle rim. French, circa 1910, a rare set of miniature art glass with unusual pieces such as ring holder.

2.5" (6 cm.) Ten dolls, each with bisque swivel head, bisque torso, peg-jointed bisque arms and legs, painted boots, painted facial features, mohair wig. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1890, the dolls appeared in Paris Etrennes catalogs at the end of the 19th century, described as "Les Nations". Value Points: the all-original mignonettes wear well-detailed costumes including Marquis, Normandy woman, Spanish child, and others, each different.
Petite French Bisque Bebe with Provenance of the Jumeau Family 2000/2500

12" (30 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 3 (head) 2 (torso and feet) B (impressed left foot). Comments: SFBJ, circa 1910. Value Points: the little bebe wears her original deluxe blue velvet coat and bonnet, undergarments, brown leather shoes impressed "3", and has an original calling card from Madame Germaine Jumeau (likely the daughter, Helene-Germaine, of Emile Jumeau) with the inscription (in French) of best wishes for good memories. The gift and notation indicate the family's continuing close connection with the firm even after the SFBJ formation; Germaine would have been about 25 years old in 1910.

Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Dressel, their portrait of Admiral Dewey from their historical heroes of US series, circa 1892. Value Points: the rare doll is in superb original condition with elaborately ornamented original costume, epaulets, sword.

Condition: generally excellent, body is appropriately sized, of the period, and may be original presentation. Marks: 1388 Germany Simon & Halbig S&H 5 (head) E.D.B Paris La Patricienne Depose (body). Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1910, the body was deposed by Edmund Daspres of Paris at that same time, and has appeared with various bisque heads including those of Simon and Halbig. Value Points: rare facial model is enhanced by superior quality of bisque and sculpting, wearing lovely antique costume of the Edwardian era.
