Bisque socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, painted dark curly lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pouty expression, accented lips, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R Simon & Halbig 117 46. Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, circa 1912, the model marketed as "Mein Susser Liebling" (My Sweet Darling). Value Points: wonderful cabinet size model with lovely expression, bisque, painting, original body finish, antique costume, shoes, undergarments, bonnet.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Germany K&H (in banner) 525 4. Comments: Kley and Hahn, circa 1915. Value Points: wonderful detail of sculpting especially large ears, and laughter crinkles around the eyes, great costume includes antique celluloid button "Be My Pal".

Bisque shoulder head portraying a light golden dog with prominent shaved muzzle, painted nose and mouth, painted brown eyes, very full sculpted fur on throat and chest, and having sculpted green Tyrolean hat with red feather on head and two gold beads at throat, original muslin body with printed designs of children playing, original bisque lower paws, antique woolen hunting costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, probably Hertwig, circa 1890. Value Points: rare animal-doll with amusing detail and excellent sculpting.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 110 6 Germany. Comments: attributed to Adolf Wislizenus, circa 1910. Value Points: rare model from the art character reform series, having excellent detail of sculpting and bisque.

Solid domed bisque head with flanged neck, blonde painted boyish hair with sculpting detail, intaglio blue side-glancing eyes, white eyedots, painted eye liner and one-stroke tapered brows, closed mouth with tiny "O" hole between the lips as though puckered for whistling, muslin body with torso bellows that, when squeezed, causes the doll to "whistle", antique costume, saddle shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Heubach (in square) 8776 Germany. Comments: Gebruder Heubach, circa 1912, their model marketed as "Whistling Jim". Value Points: rare character with wonderfully sculpted features, working whistle.

Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 40 WSK 130 Germany. Comments: Wiesenthal, Schindel & Kallenberg, circa 1910, the firm created only a few models of the art character dolls. Excellent condition. Germany, circa 1900.

Stone bisque head and torso depicting the legendary storybook figure of Polichinella (Judy) with sculpted cap having ruffled edges, caricature facial features including large nose, smiling expression, peg-jointed arms and legs, sculpted costume. American Black Cloth "Alabama Baby" by Ella Smith with Provenance 900/1400

All cloth doll with hard pressed and painted facial features and hair, depicting a black-complexioned child, with side-seams, molded ears, black painted short hair, white eye dots, closed mouth, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips, wearing calico shirt, blue denim overalls and cap, canvas bag. Condition: original painted finish, nose and cheek rub. Comments: Ella Smith's Alabama Baby, circa 1920, the doll was given to Louise Jordan by Ella Smith herself, and later passed to Mae McLaughlin, the niece of Louise. Value Points: rare model with appealing presence.
American Cloth Topsy-Turvy Doll by Babyland Rag 500/800

All cloth doll is constructed with two different heads in topsy-turvy fashion, one head depicting a black child, the other a white child, each with artfully drawn and printed features, having common muslin torso and leather arms, checkered dress. Condition: generally excellent, arms very worn. Comments: Babyland Rag, circa 1890. Value Points: beautifully preserved faces on the early commercial American cloth doll.
19th Century Cast Iron Doll's Laundry Stove and Irons 500/800

9" (23 cm.) excluding chimney. The cast iron six-sided stove with tri-pod legs and single burner has side trays designed to hold flat irons for heating when not in use. Three irons are included. Excellent condition. A rare miniature stove in appealing display size. Circa 1885.

All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features and hair, stitched ears, painted large brown eyes with dark eye liner, unpainted lashes excepting fringe at bottom rim, thick brows, short painted hair, upturned nose, closed mouth with full lips, very plump body with hip and shoulder stitch-jointing, separated fingers, painted red ankle boots with black outline, antique gown. Condition: good, some craquelure and paint rubs and wear, finger and toe tips worn. Comments: Ella Smith, a very rare early experimental model with unusual over-sized ears, separated fingers, distinctive eye painting, and a charming personality; the doll is featured in Ella Smith and the Alabama Doll Scrapbook by Jacque Shafer.
American Cloth "Alabama Baby" by Ella Smith with Pale Complexion 800/1200
Lot # 149 (Sale Order: 149 of 306)
18" (46 cm.) All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features, very unusual painted pale complexion, painted light brown hair with golden highlights, circular stitched crown, stitched ears, large brown eyes with long painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, full lips, stitch-jointed shoulders and hips, painted sienna boots that reach above the knees, antique costume. Condition: good, original finish, wear on nose tip and toe fronts. Marks: No. II Patented Sept. 26, 1905 (torso stamp). Comments: early model by Ella Smith, circa 1908, the doll's very pale white complexion is original, and appears to have been made only for a short time before blush was added to the painting mix. Value Points: charming early patent model with rare original complexion, unusual boots; the doll is featured in "Ella Smith and Alabama Dolls Scrapbook" by Jacque Shafer.

All cloth doll with pressed and oil-painted facial features, circular stitched crown, stitched ears, brown painted hair with beautiful ringlet curls at the back, very pale complexion, painted brown eyes, very thick and long painted lashes and brows, closed mouth, painted cheek blush, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips, painted very high blue boots, antique costume. Condition: good, toes and right ear worn, original finish with some paint rubs on hair and cheeks. Marks: Patented Sept. 26, 1905 No. 1 (front torso) Mrs. E.
