Wonderful French Child's Dinner Service in Original Box from Au Bonheur des Enfants 700/1000
Lot # 151 (Sale Order: 151 of 306)
22" (56 cm.) X 17" box. A wooden box with decorative paper covers and gilt lettering "Service de Table" hinges open to red lined interior containing its original doll-sized faience dinner service for six with extensive serving dishes, plates, and accessories, along with four colored glass dishes, three-piece cutlery sets for six (one missing knife), six menu cards, and six napkins. The elements are still tied to the box with original red silk ribbons, and the box lid contains the silver label of the prestige Parisian doll store "Au Bonheur des Enfants" which where it was sold. Excellent condition. Circa 1890.

Standing upon a wooden platform with rich velvet cover is a bisque-headed lady with blue glass eyes, very thick black eye liner and brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, bisque shoulder plate, carton torso and legs with adult female shape and elongated slender legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original aqua silk satin dress richly decorated with silk ribbons and gold coins, matching cap, holding a wooden guitar with hand-painted decorations. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1895, when wound she leans from side to side as though in time to the music, while her right hand strums the guitar strings; two tunes play. Value Points: rare automaton in beautifully preserved original condition.

Antique Doll Dress and Fancy Bonnet 400/500

To fit doll about 18" -20", 4 1/2" shoulder width. The dress of fine white cotton features an entire skirt embellished with fine cutwork and embroidery, with double tier ruffled collar and full sleeves, along with one piece undergarment. Included is a beautiful straw bonnet interwoven with silk ribbons and decorated on the interior brim with crepe de chine. Excellent condition. Circa 1885.

Value Points: in beautifully preserved condition, the doll wears its original silk Marquis costume with feathered cap, lace jabot, and has attached strings to hands and feet that connect with bone ring allowing the doll to dance about, with working crier bellows.
French Child's Milliner's Box "La Mode" for Creating Doll Bonnets500/800

19" x 13" box. A wooden box with decorative Art Nouveau style paper covers along with engraving of beautiful woman on the cover and the name "La Mode" hinges open to well-fitted interior with supplies and materials for decorating the 13 miniature doll bonnets that are also included. There are two wooden hat stands, lace, silk ribbons, threads, flowers, fruit, hat pins, and undecorated hats of straw and felt in various styles and colors. The menage was designed to encourage young girls in the design and creation of fine millinery, and was a popular presentation box in Paris Etrennes catalog at the end of the 19th century. Excellent, unplayed with condition. Circa 1900.

Rare French Candy Box as Necessaire, Napoleon III Epoch 600/900

A beautiful heavy card stock box with rounded edging and gilded inner frame has engraving on the lid depicting ladies in the garden, and hinges open to well fitted interior with six bone sewing tools, silver scissors and thimble, and six little chocolate boxes with engravings of children that now hold tiny buttons and sewing accessories, The inside lid is removable to reveal the label of famous Parisian chocolatier, F. Marquis, and to serve as a folio for sewing designs and samplers. Excellent condition. French, circa 1875.
