Wonderful French Child's Dinner Service in Original Box from Au Bonheur des Enfants 700/1000

22" (56 cm.) X 17" box. A wooden box with decorative paper covers and gilt lettering "Service de Table" hinges open to red lined interior containing its original doll-sized faience dinner service for six with extensive serving dishes, plates, and accessories, along with four colored glass dishes, three-piece cutlery sets for six (one missing knife), six menu cards, and six napkins. The elements are still tied to the box with original red silk ribbons, and the box lid contains the silver label of the prestige Parisian doll store "Au Bonheur des Enfants" which where it was sold. Standing upon a wooden platform with rich velvet cover is a bisque-headed lady with blue glass eyes, very thick black eye liner and brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig, bisque shoulder plate, carton torso and legs with adult female shape and elongated slender legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, wearing original aqua silk satin dress richly decorated with silk ribbons and gold coins, matching cap, holding a wooden guitar with hand-painted decorations. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1895, when wound she leans from side to side as though in time to the music, while her right hand strums the guitar strings; two tunes play. A wooden box with decorative Art Nouveau style paper covers along with engraving of beautiful woman on the cover and the name "La Mode" hinges open to well-fitted interior with supplies and materials for decorating the 13 miniature doll bonnets that are also included. There are two wooden hat stands, lace, silk ribbons, threads, flowers, fruit, hat pins, and undecorated hats of straw and felt in various styles and colors. The menage was designed to encourage young girls in the design and creation of fine millinery, and was a popular presentation box in Paris Etrennes catalog at the end of the 19th century.
