1891 Marlin Model 1889 Side-Eject (24"), 32-20 Winchester, Lever-Action Rifle, 47255

Lot # 178

According to the Marlin Arms Collectors 1883 to 1906 serial number chart, this Model 1889 rifle was produced in 1891. SPECS: Smooth walnut stock, curved metal buttplate, ...more24" octagon barrel, dovetailed adjustable Buckhorn rear sight, German silver blade front sight and full length magazine tube with 16-round capacity. CONDITION: This rifle is showing wear but appears to be all original, has a fair bore with good rifling & pitting and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Introduced in 1889, and dubbed as the New Safety Repeating Rifle", the Marlin Model 1889 was a redesigned Model 1888 lever-action rifle & carbine. The most noticeable difference from the Model 1888 was the solid top with a side-ejection system. Internal upgrades included a locking lug and firing pin system that prevented discharge until the bolt was locked in place. The new model also utilized a cartridge carrier that raised automatically, closing the end of the magazine after the head of the cartridge had passed into the carrier, thus preventing the next cartridge from entering the carrier and jamming the action. It was very well received on the American frontier with approximately 55,000 guns produced until it was discounted in 1903. In its day, the Model 1889 was considered state-of-the-art and a truly prized possession. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US.
