Overview of 1894 Mettlach Anheuser Busch Beer Stein #2136
Item Details
We've come to perhaps the most impressive breweriana item in the entire auction...don't miss it.
It's an 1894 Mettlach Anheuser-Busch Beer Stein #2136, made in Germany for the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. Note the date...this is one of the very earliest steins produced by the company and certainly one of the rarest...we believe only a few still exist.
The stein has three panels with a "PUG" print-under-glaze line drawing of Adolphus Busch, the founder of the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company, on the center. The rest of the stein body has engraved and raised relief decoration showing hops vines, wheat and steins. The inlaid ceramic lid features the Anheuser-Busch logo, with the 'A' and 'Eagle'.
The bottom of the stein is properly marked with the Mettlach Abbey mark and the painted or stamped Mercury mark. Also impressed on the bottom is '2136' and '94' for the stein number and year, and "28".
This is in excellent, impeccable condition with no chips, cracks or fleabites; any white spots in the pictures are from glare. This item is guaranteed to be old and not a modern reproduction!!! 9" x 4".
