1948 Cadillac Convertible. "Symbol of Supremacy America's finest motor car" shouted the GM top-of-the-line Cadillac, which led the redesign charge with the industry's first all-new post-war styling. Daryl Hemken became the second owner of this convertible in 1965 when he purchased it from a Des Moines couple who were Christian Science Practitioners and used the car primarily to drive to the Mother Church in Boston. The all-new post-war Caddy's sported tail fins inspired by the P-38 fighter plane, a shortened wheelbase and a 2" wider track that provided more interior room. The Cadillac 346ci flathead V-8 remained, however, for another year when Cadillac introduced the overhead valve 331ci engine. That engine produced 160 horsepower, 10 horsepower more than the flathead. The engine in this car was overhauled in 1990. In hibernation for a number of years, it's still running well and is fully expected to make someone a "showy" and fun to drive Caddy convertible.
