All matching numbers. Scarce U.S. Airborne soldier bring back paper with typewritten Luger serial number that matches the pistol serial number. Bring back paper is authorizing Corporal John E. Sayre to bring the Luger back as a war trophy. Cpl. Sayre is listed on the roster of the 193rd Glider Infantry Regiment/17th Airborne as having a war time rank of Tech 5. Sayre was awarded the Good Conduct medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Sayre won the CIB on January 10, 1945 during the Battle Of The Bulge. Sayre evidently was promoted to Corporal when he was transferred to the 194th GIR in March of 1945 which is stated on the paperwork. The Luger is dated 1910 on the receiver and has the DWM maker logo. In overall good condition showing some pitting and has been refinished at some point. Action functions smoothly and bore still shows soft rifling. The checkered wood grips have some slight "looseness" which is the reason they were removed to see if could be tightened. After removing, each grip has the same matching serial number period written on the reverse of each Hard shell leather holster is maker and date stamped on the reverse. The date is 1936. Stitching throughout is strong with the exception of the reverse belt loop stitching which is intact but has softened. Original take down tool is present and has no markings.
