DESIGN: This Pennsylvania long rifle is signed on the barrel “Peter & David Moll, Hellertown, No.22.” The Moll family is one of the most important rifle building families of Lehigh and Northampton Counties, spanning several generations from the late 18th century through mid-19th century. This rifle started out as a flintlock and shows a period conversion to percussion. Guns signed by both men are quite rare. The rifle is sleek and long, having a .48 caliber bore. The barrel is 42” in length. The piece has a 2-piece brass patch box of the regional style, a small toe plate, a proper Lehigh-Northampton trigger guard and an “arrowhead” lockbolt plate also of the eastern Pennsylvania style. Restoration needed: replacement hammer, patch box latch, fore end wood slivers replaced. CONDITION: Good. INVENTORY NO./CATEGORY: 5735/ANT ESTIMATE: $1000-$1300
