Ornate GAR Sword, by Ames, 35'' overall, 28'' blade, with ornate gold-plated hilt, embellished with GAR and floral motifs and equipped with a folding rear guard. Grip appears to be cast in bronze and wrapped with double twist gold-plated wire. German blade is decorated in gold on the obverse with patriotic and GAR motifs with the name ''Lewis N. Hurie, Past Commander''. The reverse blade is decorated in gold with floral and GAR motifs and the name ''John A. Hawes Post 159 GAR''. Nickel-plated scabbard is mounted with gold-plated furniture in a pierced filigree floral pattern, with slight lifting to the nickel. Est.: $500-$700.
