U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor Carbine, by Springfield Armory, #139005, .45-70 cal., 22'' barrel, blue finish with case colored breechblock, and walnut stock. Top of receiver just forward of breechblock marked ''MASS.''. Condition is very good with light to moderate toning to barrel, silvering and mild toning to breechblock. Stock with minor scratches and oil darkening near metal components. Old trooper's initials ''FK'' have been carved into cheek area of buttstock. Action is crisp, bore is good. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)
