Hard-to-find pickup completely restored wood bed runs and drives great. American Austin Car Co. was founded in 1929 in Butler PA. Their intention was to assemble and sell in the United Sates a version of the Austin 7 car called American Austin. After some initial success the Great Depression set in and sales fell off to the point that production was suspended. In 1934 the company filed for bankruptcy. In 1935 the company was reorganized under the name American Bantam. Production resumed in 1937 and continued through 1941. From 1937 until the end of 1941 only 6000 Bantams were produced. This has a 45.6ci inline-4 engine with 3-speed manual transmission. They had a top speed of 50 mph and styling resembled a small Chevrolet. From the John Staluppi Cars of Dreams Collection.
