35 1/4" octagon barrel is 45 caliber and has a good bore with some light surface rust that will surely clean up. The top of the barrel is stamped "J. Caswell," a well known maker from Lansingburg, New York, and the finish is mostly brown with some light scattered pitting. The trigger guard is blued spring steel and is also the mainspring; the back portion of the guard is brass and forms a small pistol grip. The stock is very slender, has a small cheekpiece, a brass buttplate and patchbox and a single German silver inlay in the middle of the cheekpiece. The ramrod is missing.
