Scarce and desirable Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle with open top frame in .44-40 caliber, 24” octagon barrel, full magazine, rifle butt, serial number 27441. The open top model 1873 is rarely encountered and is a key variation in the 73 series. The rifle shows a dark brown patina finish with scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion and some minor areas of light cleaning and recoloring. The stocks have also been be worn and show some dings, mars, scratches and small losses and are fair to almost good. The rear sight is a replacement and the front sight is also a good replacement. The action is working andmarkings are light but visible. The bore is fair to slightly rough. Est.: $2,500 -$5,000.
