In 1963 Chevrolet introduced the all new Stingray Corvette. It was the first the American production car with independent rear suspension. The new body was lower, narrower and shorter than the previous generation. Their sleekness was indisputable. The famous ?Split-window? design and the use of the Sting Ray name left an indelible mark in American Automotive history. Although Larry Shinoda penned the production ?63 Split window Corvette, the real credit for the design goes to Peter Brock (Shelby Daytona Coupe fame), which started out as a styling exercise initiated by Bill Mitchell himself which later resulted in building the original 1959 prototype, the ?Stingray Racer XP-87?.
This Corvette has undergone an extensive and thorough nut and bolt body off restoration. Nothing was left to chance; all parts are original to the car or NOS. The exterior is perfectly finished in Ermine White with a dark blue contrasting interior. All the chrome and stainless trim has either been replated or polished to a high shine. This car is nicely optioned with the stepped-up L75-300hp/327cid, optional Powerglide automatic transmission, power windows, power steering, power brakes, seat belts and rarely ordered air conditioning. The 1963 Corvette is famous and desired for its split window design. This is probably one of the finest Stingray examples available on the market today and would surely make any NCRS judge smile.
