Item Details
This is a WWI cavalry saber designed for the U.S. Army by Second Lieutenant (later General) George S. Patton in 1913. It was the last sword issued to the U.S. Cavalry and features a large, basket-shaped hilt mounting on a straight, double-edged, thrusting blade designed for use by light cavalry. Patton suggested this revision from a curved sword with a one edged cutting technique to a thrusting style attack sword, following his extensive training in France. This sword is marked "1918" with U.S. Proof stamps and is in excellent original condition (missing sheath) and is an nice example of George S. Patton's signature "thinking outside the box" warfare design and the reason for his nickname "Saber George". Length - 42", Blade - 35"
