Oldsmobile launched the Starfire convertible late in the 1961 model year. Although it shared its wheelbase with the 88 the more powerful 394ci V8 Rocket engine lurked under the Starfire?s hood and full-length brushed aluminum side-sweep became the cars visual signature. All Super 88 options were standard on the Starfire which also included power front bucket seats a console-mounted tachometer and a dual exhaust system. Oldsmobile sold 7800 Starfires that first year. This car was found at a Goodguys show at Pleasanton CA. It had been brought from Northern California to be sold there. A sound original car all of the bodywork is lead and the windshield was cut down by four inches. All three top bows were reworked for the correct shape and a custom top was installed. The leading edges of the hood were also reworked as was the trunk. A 1959 Imperial grille was adapted while the taillights were liberated from a 1959 Cadillac. The interior was reupholstered in white leather with diamond pleat button-back and tuck-and-roll flourishes. The car rides on chrome wire wheels and adjustable air suspension. It also features air conditioning and the chromed engine compartment was highly detailed. It has a Hydramatic automatic transmission independent suspension and a live rear axle front and rear air ride and 4-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. A select offering from the Bryan Frank Collection.
