Engraving in color on Rives paper Size: 7.5" x 10", 19.05 cm x 25.4 cm The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri between 1308 and his death in 1321, is widely considered the central epic poem of Italian literature, and is seen as one of the greatest works of world literature. The poem's imaginative vision of the Christian afterlife is a culmination of the medieval world-view as it had developed in the Western Church. The Divine Comedy suite consists of 100 color woodcut engravings. In the mid 1950s, the Italian government commissioned Salvador Dali to illustrate Dante's Divine Comedy, to be published in 1965 in honor of the 700th anniversary of Dante's birth in Florence in 1265. This woodblock illustration is from The French edition in which 4765 books were published. Authenticated on verso.

Terms Of Sale
In the rare event that you have a problem with your item please contact us and we'll be happy to help. Returns are acceptable if an item is damaged during shipping or if not as described in the listing. Because the handling of artwork is an "art" in and of itself due to its fragile nature, we cannot offer a return option on our merchandise simply because a customer changes his/her mind after opening up the artwork. Also, please keep in mind that there may be a slight variation in color from one computer monitor to another; we recommend looking at a few internet sights to see color variation if this is a major factor in your purchasing decision.
